Obama says Tea Partiers owe him a thank you

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/04/16/art.teaparty6.gi.jpg caption ="President Obama said Thursday night that he thinks the Tea Party movement owes him a thank you."]
(CNN) - Tea Party activists marked Tax Day with a high-profile rally in Washington, DC, and other protests across the country, but President Obama says the anti-tax movement actually owes him a thank you.

Speaking at a Democratic fundraiser in Miami Thursday night, the president touted tax cuts in the stimulus measure and the fact that the tax rate has not been increased for those making less than $250,000 a year.

"So I've been amused in recent days by these people having rallies," he told the crowd at the fundraiser to laughter. "I think they should be saying thank you."

Members of the crowd, who paid between $250 to $1,250 to attend the event, immediately rose to their feet and replied "Thank You!"

The White House noted Thursday that federal taxes were reduced by $173 billion in 2009 and said that the average tax refund is about 10 percent higher than last year.

Obama also won a standing ovation from the Miami crowd when he praised the recent passage of the health care reform plan.

"As my vice president said, 'This is a big deal,'" Obama said to laughter in reference of Vice President Joe Biden's verbal slip at the bill's signing ceremony where he was heard telling the president "This is a big F-ing deal"

"And he was right," Obama said.

Media should not give so much attention to those Tea Party activists, they are racists, against the Americans, they have many things in common with the FASCIST movement – Palin is an idiot, her popularity consists in the fact that she is TRASHY- and her supporters are only TRASHY people, of course – no serious Americans could ever pay attention to her.

It's my opinion the Tea Party members don't even know what they're protesting, they don't realize that 98 % of them are paying lower taxes under Pres. Obama's administration. Keep up the excellent work you're doing Mr. President !!!

The President just doesn't get it. It's about future taxes and the size of government he is pushing. He's creating debt through bailouts and new entitlements that will have to be paid back eventually if government keeps growing. It is also about how Obamacare will impact our taxes and our quaility of life, especially our freedoms. He's all for a nanny state. Typical of this man. Won't talk directly to his opponents, he talks down his nose at them through other groups.

Dear Mr. President, as far as the Republicans are concerned, facts are not relevant. The problem is not taxes. Or spending. Or any of the issues they have. Their problem is YOU!!!! They feel that you are giving stuff away to people that do not WORK. They feel as if they are losing something because

He should be thanking them for making him look good. Those lunatics believe they are a majority and will be sore from the whooping they will take in the next elections. They are a fringe group, they dont even represent most of their own party.

That's what happens when people embrace anger blindly and follow wherever ignorance and fox news leads them......

While I agree with Obama on this, he should be careful and try to listen through all the virtriolic rhetoric from the Tea Party....while they may be quick to say yeah, you cut taxes, but for us, it was like throwing pennies at the ground and expecting us to pick it up. In other words, it appears that their message is this: current tax cuts are insufficient in our view to remedy what we believe is too much taxes; the federal gov't has no business spending money on health care and social programs and should therefore eliminate all social programs, or at least, cut spending down to bare bones; oh, and ironically, "keep your gov't hands off my gov't health care, ooops! I mean my Medicare!"

The Tea Party should thank Obama. If it weren't for his fiscally irresponsible policies, the movement most likely would never have happened. But now, the American citizenry is deeply concerned and engaged with the political process - which is a very good thing.

Stand by for the tax increases coming our way. How do you think they are going to pay for nobambys health care deformity and all the spending he has been doing. You cannot tax the "rich" and expect to make a dent on our deficit and nobamby has quadrupled the deficit of President Bush in only one year.

I think Obama is doing the right thing – getting involved with petty issues. We all know he is not a world leader, so why not stay in his comfort zone as a community organizer! Go Obama!

The great "unifier" is finally fulfilling his pre-election billing, Americans are more unified against him and his policies than ever! Only 200 days to go until 2 November!

That's right Mr. President. Go on and ridicule those forces that don't agree with you. You are so good at that. You are the President of ALL Americans, not just those who share your view. Do you wonder why there is this great divide in our country? This coming from the man who campaigned on bringing this country together.

Were federal taxes reduced, or were less American's working (9.7% unemployment) yet we increases spending with a $700 billion dollar "stimulus bill".

Thank you Mr. President!! I'm grateful for all you are doing. What gets me is that most of the people protesting at these tea parties probably don't make more than 250K, so their taxes are not increasing. Sometimes peoples ignorance is unbelievable.

At best, the tea party is a joke, but at worst, It could be dangerous to the United States. Members of that party have touted their right to have guns and their right to form a militia againsst the government. Who are these people who have so much time for rallies, lies and hatred??? They need to get jobs and tend to their own families and lives, then work within the system and vote thoughtfully.

I agree with our President. Just what are the Tea Party members protesting? Of course, several polls have found that the majority of members are fairly well-to-do white males, so maybe they make over $250K and are protesting their taxes? I just don't understand! Could there be other issues? I know they say less government, but where were they for 6 out of the 8 years of Republican rule? Didn't see any Tea Parties then, did we?

Wait until Obama ends the Bush Tax Cuts and increases taxes for all Americans, then implements a National Sales Tax called a Value Added Tax; all to "decrease the debt". Then the democrats will actually increase spending and continue following their path to self destruction.

I think liberals must be mentally unbalanced.
