White House slams latest 'birther' move

White House aides are scoffing at a move in the Arizona legislature to force President Obama to show his birth certificate to get on the state's ballot in 2012 for his likely re-election battle.

(CNN) - White House aides are scoffing at a move in the Arizona legislature to force President Obama to show his birth certificate to get on the state's ballot in 2012 for his likely re-election battle.

"This is a question that has been answered exhaustively," White House spokesman Bill Burton told CNN. "I can't imagine Arizona voters think their tax dollars are well served by a legislature that is less focused on their lives than in fringe right-wing radio conspiracy theories."

The Arizona House voted Monday by a 31-22 margin to require all presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States in order to meet the constitutional requirement. The measure still has to be considered by the Arizona state Senate before it can become law.

When the issue first popped up during the 2008 presidential election, the Obama campaign released the then-senator's birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii. In December 2008, after Obama was elected, the U.S. Supreme Court turned down an emergency appeal from a New Jersey man claiming Obama was ineligible to serve as president.

Since when does a President have to provide his/her birth certificate multiple times? Is once not enough?

Ahhh, the price one pays for being the first black President, as the right wingers show their true colors. And once he provides the birth certificate again, what next?

Arizona is becoming a REDNECK RACISTS state. Bottom line. They have the most corrupt police officers in the country. This notion that police officers are going to "decide" who is legal and who isn't is truly a step towards racial profiling and will open a whole new can of worms.

Arizona needs to FOCUS on closing it's borders to prevent illegal aliens from coming across. This is NOTHING NEW, Arizona has turned a BLIND'S EYE and a DEAF EAR to this on-going problem

Many Arizonians ENJOY the benefits of minorities who cut their grasses, build their homes, take care of their children, clean their homes, cook their foods, maintain their buildings, etc. BUT all of a sudden it's an issue for them.

Same Arizona that wants to legalize racial profiling and didn't want Martin Luther King Jr Holiday.

This is all way past ridiculous.

Another thing. Every time people do this they are slapping the face of every CIA, FBI and Secret Service person that would share in the responsibility of ascertaing the Presidents Citizenship. You're also denegrating the Supreme Court with this nonsense. They already looked at this and they also swore in the President. So what, you know better than all the best legal and law enforcement people in the nation?

ENOUGH ALREADY! You really should try to find a more private way to display your ignorance. The rest of us are tired of it.

That will keep John McCain off the ballot. He was not born in US but in Panama. But of course no one expects him to prove his qualifications, right?

You know, I don't see this as a problem. If you have nothing to hide, it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone.

Legislators love to waste taxpayer dollars. These guys are in the same group as the governors that want to sue to stop healthcare reform and the school boards that want religion in schools, then waste taxpayer money going to court when they know they can't win rather than using the money on mundanely educating the students.

This goes beyond the pale. It also show some people will NEVER be satisfied. They simply keep pushing false advertising hoping it will stick.

How ignorant can a wild mob be. I have a copy of the certificate at home. But the T-baggers can't accept that he gathered more crowds when announcing his candidacy than they had on its best day. Now, that was a movement T'ñaggers? That is just the last breath of an endangered spicies.

It is a travesty, and I am sorry that right-wingers will refuse to look into themselves to see the inherent racism in this. The fact of the matter is that if Obama was white and had a Western European name then there would NEVER have been any kind of birther conspiracy theory.

Its amazing, there is still a Minority of folks stuck on stupid. If some of them had common sense, they would realize that in order for the President to have the highest level of Security clearence he currently have or to even run for office, his back ground was check by a number of intelligence agency and had there been any flaws it would have surface a long time ago. There are and will be the faithful ignorant few who can not accept the fact that the majority, I repeat the majority of americans elected a articulate, intelligent person who happen to be of color to lead this Country out of it's downward spiral which he is doing in a artful manner and may God continue to protect and bless him!!

Oh yes CNN lets post an article about Obama's birth certificate because it's important news.

It's not because there are some wackos at CNN who will say anything to throw mud at Obama (wink wink, nudge nudge), really, this is important news (cough cough).

Hey CNN, there's this guy walking around in downtown Manhattan mumbling to himself about how Obama's the antichrist, you should do a ticker article on what he has to say.

I think "Librul" organizations like MoveOn and FireDogLake should sell t-shirts with Obama's birth certificate printed on it with STFU underneath to shut down these Anti-American loonies.

I live in Arizona and this state has completely lost their minds. First one stupid thing after another. Jan Brewer has no sense at all and grasp at everything the state house throws at her. She is the worst governor of all time. If she signs this awful bill, she deserves whatever she gets and her time in an elected office is done. Just means everyone will have to write in Obama's name. Idiot woman.

Shut up and PROVE IT. Only in AMerica could someone "Obama" get away with it to this point.

Prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Seems like he would want to prove it. Really makes you wonder why he don't want to put this issue to bed.

He don't act like an American president, he don't take America's security seriously, he stands for everything America don't, he don't listen to the people.

Will we be sitting here 5 years from now saying his presidency was the biggest scam ever? PROVE IT

The good people of Arizona are represented by John McCain..and perhaps soon by one of the most right wing loons of our time. They get what they pay for. Such lunacy. Maybe if they put as much effort into solving problesm as they do birth certificates they would be living better lives.

I find this a true embarrassment for our state. First the immigration bill, which I feel is just a justification for racial profiling, and now this. I have been an Arizona resident since 1978, when I was stationed here at Ft. Huachuca as and Army Specialist, fell in love with Arizona and settled here. I have been a life long Democrat and I want the rest of America to know that not all of us in Arizona have been adversely affected by our desert sun. As you probably can tell, we have a Republican majority in our state and the only way out of this mess is to get Democrats off our butts and get busy changing the political make-up of our state.
