Cheney reflects on 'f**k' yourself comment

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/22/art.cheneycpac0222.gi.jpg caption="Former Vice President Dick Cheney told Dennis Miller Thursday that telling Sen. Patrick Leahy to ‘f**k’ himself was ‘sort of the best thing I ever did.’"](CNN) – Democrats were gleeful in 2004 when former Vice President Dick Cheney on the Senate floor told a senior lawmaker to "f**k" himself – a gesture, they thought, that was emblematic of Cheney's hard-heartedness.

Six years later, Cheney is looking back on that moment with pride.

"You'd be surprised how many people liked that," Cheney told conservative comedian and radio host Dennis Miller Thursday. "That's sort of the best thing I ever did."

Audio of the comments were posted on the liberal Web site Think Progress.

Cheney aimed the choice words at Sen. Patrick Leahy, now the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in June 2004. Cheney was upset with Leahy's criticism of Iraq contracting deals that the Bush administration had awarded to Halliburton, the company Cheney used to head.

Senate rules prohibit senators from using "unbecoming" language on the Senate floor when the body is in session, but makes no mention of whether the vice president is permitted to make foul remarks.

It's impossible to know how many American troops were killed because of the secret, no bid contracts Cheney swung Halliburton's way. We do know that the failure to hire military age Iraqis at $10.00 a day to clean up their own country, as we finally did the 80 to 100,000 Sunni Awakening Council insurgents, left tens of thousands of Iraqis with nothing better to do than hire out to the various insurgents and criminal gangs that owned Iraq for so long. But then again, Cheney and Halliburton had no problem trading with Saddam's Iraq in the pre-war days or with Iran to at least 2007 if not later. There is a special steam vent in hell reserved for he and his ilk.

"That's sort of the best thing I ever did."

Considering all the horrible things he did, he just might be right about that.

What's sad is that it probably is the best thing he's ever done.
Cheney's a troll. An evil, evil troll.

of course he was proud of it, i've never heard him say anything to the contrary, but it was bitter sweet since two years later the voters to him and his cronies the same thing at the ballot box

Cheney, the neo-con tool, is sad excuse for a human being. A load of garbage encased by skin. The GOP is no longer the real GOP but a group that was hijacked years ago by war hungry neo-cons, and Cheney played a big role in it.

If he thinks that is the best thing he ever did, you have to wonder....

Cheney embodies pure evil, and he will get what he deserves soon enough. He is still responsible for millions of dollars that Halliburton received for no contract bids, plus, as VP, is also guilty of LOSING 8 BILLION of America money in Iraq, but I bet it went straight to Cheney and his buddies. It speaks volumes that he is so pleased with himself when Leahy was RIGHT.

    Yeah Baby,
I forgot about that! That's why I am a Republican because we will call it like it is! When times got tough in Iraq, all the Democrats did was blame and complain and want to quit when the rain began to fall. I am very sorry that we lost a lot of U.S Troops, but we are in this fight to the end. And yes, the 'F bomb" was the former vice presidents best moment.

I agree with Cheney that telling Leahy to "f**k" himself" was the best thing he ever did, because every other action Cheney took while Vice-President was either illegal or immoral.

He's proud of siphoning off funds for a contractor that was corrupt. That's great. I recall he was also proud of dodging military service. What a fine leader.

Of course, if it had been a Democrat who made that statement, Cheney (and his ilk) would have been screaming bloody murder and demanding his apology & resignation. But then, Cheney has always lived by a double standard, and he's always been a vulgar ignorant corrupt fool.

I think there's a whole lot of Americans that would have a lot of personal satisfaction saying the same to old Dick. Cheneys still and always will be a steaming pile.

"That's sort of the best thing I ever did." He said it himself – that is the best thing he ever did! We have been saying all along he contributed nothing and he just confirmed it!

I'm sure it's the best thing he ever did. The real issue is what is the worst thing he ever did? Man, so many options for such a regrettable person.

I still don't have courage to say the f-bomb, but since hearing VP Cheney, I am now emboldened to say it when the right time will come. I applaud you Mr. Cheney.

Dick, I'm not sure I'd agree this is the best thing you ever did... but it certainly isn't the WORST thing you've ever done.

What a foul-mouthed, crude jerk Cheney is.
Why doesn't he shut-up and disappear into the woodwork.

I may not have agreed with Bush's policies, but I respect and
admire his good sense to retire peacefully and stay out of the
political area. I hope he's enjoing hisretirement.

Actually, that’s the one thing I like about Dick Cheney. There’s been more than one time in my life somebody deserved to hear those words, but I didn’t have the guts to say it. LOL
