Cheney reflects on 'f**k' yourself comment

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/22/art.cheneycpac0222.gi.jpg caption="Former Vice President Dick Cheney told Dennis Miller Thursday that telling Sen. Patrick Leahy to ‘f**k’ himself was ‘sort of the best thing I ever did.’"](CNN) – Democrats were gleeful in 2004 when former Vice President Dick Cheney on the Senate floor told a senior lawmaker to "f**k" himself – a gesture, they thought, that was emblematic of Cheney's hard-heartedness.

Six years later, Cheney is looking back on that moment with pride.

"You'd be surprised how many people liked that," Cheney told conservative comedian and radio host Dennis Miller Thursday. "That's sort of the best thing I ever did."

Audio of the comments were posted on the liberal Web site Think Progress.

Cheney aimed the choice words at Sen. Patrick Leahy, now the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in June 2004. Cheney was upset with Leahy's criticism of Iraq contracting deals that the Bush administration had awarded to Halliburton, the company Cheney used to head.

Senate rules prohibit senators from using "unbecoming" language on the Senate floor when the body is in session, but makes no mention of whether the vice president is permitted to make foul remarks.

Sad to see a former Vice President crowing about his crude moment on the Senate floor as the best thing he's ever done.

Of course, in Cheney's case he is correct.

The rest of his career is that of an overzealous, powermongering, rightwing nutjob who brought discredit to his country.

Cheney was, is, and always will be, one arrogant bastard that thinks he can get away with anything.

Dick Cheney, classless to the end. History will not remember him well

"That's sort of the best thing I ever did."

Based on how heinous everything else is that he has done, I'd have to agree with him.

Well of course he is. A man of little or questionable character thinks nothing of bringing a new level of coarseness to an otherwise august body. And, no, I don't like Biden's "BFD" comment either.

Cheney is correct for the first time. That was the best thing he ever did. He could top that, however, by having a heart attack and going to hell where he belongs.

That is really no way for the VP (current or former) to speak to a Senator. That is too crude and unrefined, but that is Cheney and his world view. I would have hoped that Cheney would have followed the rules about "unbecoming" language. It just shows me that he is uncreative when it comes to telling someone that they aren't liked or welcomed.

You're right, Dick. That probably was the best thing you ever did. And that speaks volumes.

Yes, Dick, dropping the F bomb was the best thing you did while in the White House....especially considering everything else you ruined, screwed up, defecated on, corrupted, stole and failed at.

Yes Cheney....it is the best thing you ever did....but not for the reason you are thinking.

Yes, his best moment. Certainly a lot better than wasting the lives of thousands of our service men and women in an invasion of a country which didn't attack us on 9/11, didn't want to attack us on 9/11, and had no means by which to attack us on 9/11. Way to go, you piece of excrement.

Cheney is emblematic of what's wrong with politics these days – a lack of civility and willingness to work towards solving the nations problems. Being a jerk is nothing to be proud of but it certainly speaks to Cheney's lack of character. I've long felt he was one of the most evil and divisive politicians to appear on the national scene and his comments do nothing to dissuade that impression. Our country is far better off with him out of office.

I'm not suprised that some people thought it was great. I am suprised that most of them worked at Halliburten, though...

Well , he certainly didn't do anything else worth bragging about. Still, seems strange to be proud of it.

The best thing he ever did? What about shooting his best friend in the face? How about the innocent people he waterboarded?

What a pathetic excuse for a human being!

What Cheney said to Sen Leahy is something I have been wanting to say to Leahy for years.
