Death threats close congressman's offices

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/04/23/art.grijalva0423.grijalva.jpg caption=" Two threatening phone calls forced the closure of both of Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva’s district offices Friday."](CNN) - An unidentified person made two phone calls in which he threatened to blow up Rep. Raul Grijalva's Tucson, Arizona office and kill the congressman and his staff members, prompting the Democratic lawmaker to close his two district offices late Friday morning local time.

"It was the same guy," Grijalva's communications director Adam Sarvana told CNN. "He threatened to blow everyone's brains out in the Tucson office."

Grijalva arrived in his district from Washington Thursday night and was in the office at the time the second call came through.

The caller also said he was going to be "exercising my civil liberties and I'm shooting Mexicans at the border," according to Ruben Reyes, Grijalva's district director, who fielded one of the calls.

Reyes said tensions are running high in the state as a Saturday deadline nears for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to decide to either sign or veto a controversial immigration bill that would require police to question people if there's reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally. Grijalva urged Brewer to veto the legislation.

Sgt. Fabian Pacheco of the Tucson police department told CNN that the department was cooperating with federal and state authorities.

"We have some promising leads," he said, noting that the calls were made from a cell phone with a Phoenix area code.

Sarvana said both of Grijalva's district offices, in Tucson and Yuma, Arizona, would reopen on Monday morning.

people are being kidnapped and held for ransom by illegal immigrants in texas and arizona and Odumbo does nothing. If the Federal government is going to abdicate their responsibility in stopping these crimes then the States have an obligation and duty to their citizens to do something about it on their own. Time for Obama to put up or shut up.

God help this country and it's growing disrespect and tolerance for others based on their race. Arizona hope you're joining the Confederacy with Texas.

The old/new republikkan party = nazi. I wonder who their hitler is.
That she devil of a governor blames the federal government now? Didn't this whole mess start with the bush administration? The closing of the border and the fence?
I don't agree with threats to anyone and I don't believe that this happened or that it wasn't set up.
The tea party and the repugs are all about the first and second amendments unless it's their rules!
Wait until November. You are all toast and any state that doesn't get rid of the repugs should be boycotted.

The dangerous and crazy tea baggers are at it again. 3 have already been arrested for death threats against Democrats. These people are dangerous, racist, armed, threatening our government, threatening our leaders and the media needs to stop covering this very smal group of nutjobs. If you would covering their racist, idiotic rallies, they would disappear and the rest of us would be safer.

Any tea bagger candidate should be taken off the ballot. We wouldn't let a militia leader or a Klan member run for serious office. We do not glorify lunatics nor elect any to office.

We need serious leaders who have an education, have common sense, won't carry guns to work, and won't call leaders the N word and spit on them. These old white people need to go home and yell at their neighborhood kids to get off their lawn. They are non-credible and are creating a dangerous hysteria of violence.

Since the Republicans won't denounce them – we the decent Americans should denounce them and tell every candidate if they support the tea baggers, then we will NOT be voting for them.

We are better than this very smal group of ignorant racists and need to drop them off the national discussion.

AZ is now reaching into immigration issue. Does it have enough prison/cell space to keep them in case US Immigration Dept refuse to pick them up?

The state should have put more pressure on Federal govt to handle it. I don't think AZ can process deportation.
