Political fallout for Obama amid oil spill disaster?

Washington (CNN) - As the oil slick from the recent offshore oil rig disaster makes its way to Gulf Coast shores - expected to devastate the precious ecosystem and hurt struggling businesses - the seeds of political fallout for the Obama administration are beginning to sprout.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said on his program that the oil slick disaster is "Obama's Katrina."

Not so, says Media Matters for America:

"Media conservatives have rushed to absurdly compare the Obama administration's response to a catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to the Bush Administration's botched response after Hurricane Katrina, a hurricane that left more than 1,500 dead," the liberal-leaning group said on its website. "This claim is undermined by a number of facts."

Obama was definitely too slow to react. He should have instantly put on his ObamaSuit, flown up to the astroid belt, grabbed a small astroid, dived down to the bottom of the gulf, and the stuck the astroid into the well.

    Its too late now!

has anyone ever noticed how when something occurs that can make the right or GOP look bad (drill baby drill) Limbaugh can always put a spin on it to make it look like it's Obama's fault or that they are totally innocent of the matter? He did the same thing when that rightwing nut case killed that guard at the Smithsonian last year...claiming the nut was a "left-winger". When President Obama ordered that those pirates be taken out to free the hostages...Rush tried to make it a racial situation of all things. ("what if that had been a WHITE president who ordered that?" he asked) This guy is so full of himself that' his eyes sparkle and what's worse he has SO many that follow his every word.

Rush speaks and as usual nothing comes out. He likes shock value. He cannot make his money any other way.

I agree with comedian Bill Maher's idea that John McCain, Sarah Palin and every other GOP idiot who ever chanted "Drill Baby Drill" should have to report to the Gulf Coast today for cleanup duty!

Just disgusting that Obama has done little to nothing on this oil spill. Guess he'll wait until everyone else cleans up the mess, fly to the location on AirForce 1 for an photo op and do his best to convince people it was he, and he alone, that cleaned up the mess.

Not only has the president been monitoring the spill since day one but he has talked about it publicly and offered help. Limbaugh and the fox network is basically tabloid reporting and why anyone listens to them is beyond me. It wasn't that long ago they where complaining because they thought he would not approve drilling off shore. What a bunh of idiots.

obama's Katrina is the best explanation for this! Wouldn't surprise me if obama delayed help on this spill – you know as he says "never let a good crisis go to waste" . Let's see if obama has the gonads to find out who/what caused this explosion!

You know, I just commented on the reaction to the spiull of another GOP hypocrite named Sarah Palin, and what do I find? More of it, fresh from Limbaugh! He says this is Obama's Katrina, yet I'm sure that in the past Limbaugh has criticized those who oppose offshore drilling as treehuggers or hippies or whatever, and he'll surely criticize Obama if he pulls back on drilling offshore. Do us all a favor, Rush, and go live in a yurt in Mongolia.

Rush is one of the biggest jerks around . Any thinking person will find no way to compare this to Katrina. The repos are grasping at straws. Don't they all want off shore drilling.???

Limbaugh is an idiot so I ignore him...

Bush went on TV two days (Saturday) before Katrina and called for an evacuation of the entire Gulf Coast...experts said it would take 48 hours to evacuate New Orleans... so naturally Blanco and Nagin waited until Sunday, only 20 hours before the hurricane hit, to order the evacuation. They herd thousands of citizens into the Super dome with no food and water and send Nat'l Guard Engineers there to protect them... And then Blanco comes on TV and claims the levees held AFTER they had already breached... finally she orders the National Guard to shoot and kill looters... yea, all Bush's fault...

The right wing are such hypocrites....they were yelling that the Government should be limited. And now they are screaming for the Government. you can't have it both ways!
The local Arizona is going to stick their noses into the legal and American citizens that happen to look Latino...Where are the Tea Baggers. is this not the apparent loss of freedoms for our citizenry?
The right wing DO NOT make ANY sense!!!

I suppose that, for me at least, if you put Limbaugh's name in your headline here the story just wouldn't draw any interest. I feel somewhat cheated, played for a sucker, seeing that the crux of your article is about Rush's ramblings, again trying to tie Obama into whatever horror pops up, real or imagined.
