Analysis: Florida's Rubio, an outsider, avoids establishment label

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/05/04/art.rubio1.gi.jpg caption="Marco Rubio spoke to CNN on Tuesday in Washington."]Washington (CNN) - Marco Rubio said Tuesday he would welcome Republican leaders to Florida to campaign on his behalf, but emphasized that he is not embracing the ways of Washington even though he is now the GOP establishment's favorite son.

"I'm more than excited to have people buy into our agenda. You know we don't buy into theirs, and I'm here today to get some help from some folks who want to be helpful to our campaign," Rubio said shortly after landing in the nation's capital, where he will spend the day holding meetings and attending several finance events.

"But ultimately, although Washington and some in Washington may embrace me, I don't embrace Washington," he said. "And I certainly think that one of the reasons I'm running for U.S. Senate is - and I ran when I was 30 points down - and all of the interest groups and all of the leadership here lined up behind Charlie Crist - is that I believe what's coming out of the city is broken."

If he wins the nomination will he use his republican credit card to pay for his ads. Or will they make him pay his own way now. Gee guess we all should be republican candidates . Let the public donate money and then we could use it as our personal bank and get away with it. This guy seems to have done it. But then republicans only run crooks for office.

AH-H-H, HOW sweet! He's trying to "downsize" his views and infiltrate us normal people instead of being so right-winged extreme. It just might work considering some people in America change their minds on a whim and BELIEVE the person is "changed" also. It does NOT work with us folk who have good memories and remember what the course was BEFORE Crist changed to independent. There is still no room in Washington for RINOS, just be yourself man!...Beau Colby.

    Oh gawd, another Republican "maverick".

    HA!

McCain and Palin pay attention. This idiot's going to show you how maverick is really done!

I wonder if a year from now he'll claim he's not a maverick too.

This idiot is a right wing republican mouthpiece. He doesn't have a thought of his own. The people of florida will not put an idiot like this in the senate. He,s a parrot for the republican right wing nut job, teapartiers. This rightwing nut is someone that florida does not need in our recovering economy. I am a florida voter and I will be bringing all of my friends and relatives to the polls to vote against Rubio.

Love how Marco is trying to seize the middle and distance himself from the Tea Baggers now that he is the presumptive Rep candidate. He's a toad.

If this guy thinks he is an "outsider", he must be living on Mars. He had
better get ready to "embrace Washington", because he will not have a
choice. If he looks at who has endorsed him, he will have to re-think
his self-dillusional independence. The Tea Party put him where he is,
and he had better follow their lead, that is, of course, if Florida is
more dillusional and votes him in. He is now an expert on the Miranda
Rights, illegal immigration (you know, that flippy-floppy thing is in
his future), and wants people to "buy in on their agenda". Just whose
agenda does he mean? The Republicans (aka Washington) or the
    Tea Partiers? GOOD LUCK FLORIDA.

Rubio is an incompetent right wing fanatic. He is not even remotely qualified to be in the US senate.

If this little punk doesn't want to embrace Washington why is he running for the senate, if he wins won't that make him a "government employee" just like the rest of the hypocritical republicans on capital hill, they scream for limited government while working for the government and all the teabaggers eat it up, they have their own agenda, they use these idiots just to get elected.

Yeah, it's broken all right – but what Rubio isn't saying is exactly HOW he believes it is broken.
Like all right-wing extremists, he will do all he can to fix things so that the rich pay even less tax; the middle class pays more tax; the poor lose benefits; businesses make more profit at the expense of employees' chance of earning a better life; and a general return to the manor system of the Dark Ages where wealth ruled unchallenged and the 95% knew their place: down in the dirt with the other lower forms of life.

I think Marco Rubio cares. He cares abut himself and how much money he could make from inside the beltway from the lobbysts.

Rubio will EMBRACE Washington if he wins the election because he will owe favors to those Washington insiders he met with today asking for money and support. He will pay back ASAP.
