Rush Limbaugh cuts NYC penthouse price to $13 million

NEW YORK ( - Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is having a tough time saying adios to New York City. But it's not because he'll miss the Big Apple. Rather, he's been forced to cut the asking price for his Fifth Avenue penthouse to $12.95 million.

Limbaugh originally listed his spacious digs in March, asking $13.95 million. He bought the 10-room condo at 1049 Fifth Ave. in 1994 under the name of R H Trust, according to city property documents.

Luxury broker Corcoran Group is listing the property, but the firm chose not to release photos or confirm the celebrity resident. Limbaugh was not available for comment.

The pad sprawls across nearly 5,000 square feet and two of its terraces overlook Central Park and its famous reservoir.

The pre-war property features a double living room; a wood-paneled library; four terraces; enormous baths; and a maid's room. But it's not for the faint of heart - or those afraid of a big renovation. The general appearance can be described as, well, ornate, with trompe l'oeil ceilings and mural-covered walls.

Other lavish features include gold leaf moldings, mahogany floors, upholstered walls and an Italian marble foyer.

So what's all that worth? For the tax rolls, the city values the property at $1.56 million and says property would rent for more than $26,000 per month.

Limbaugh, host of "The Rush Limbaugh Show," has been a major voice in the conservative media arena for decades. In 2009, the pundit said he would sell his property after New York governor David Paterson proposed a so-called "millionaire's tax" on residents who make more than $500,000 a year.

Aw, times are pretty tough on Rush! No wonder he's so angry all the time, it must really suck to be in a position to sell a place for $13 million! We should all be grateful we live paycheck to paycheck, and shame on us for wanting such frivolous things like health insurance or jobs or donating to help earthquake victims!

Limbaugh is just another multi-millionaire elitist entertainer, completely out of touch with the needs of REAL Americans, about whom he couldn't care less.

Why is this even news unless there is more to the story than what we are reading. Did he do something illegal?

I'm glad that Mr. Limbaugh has made enough money scaring the American public to afford such a lavish place. Perhaps he would be better served contributing some of his funds to help his so-called conservative "friends" who are struggling without jobs now. The very same people that he has continued to lie to for years about what the government is actually doing. Let us remember, Rush is simply just a college dropout with a big mouth.

I hope Limbaugh doesn't get a dime for this place. That hate-monger already has WAY too much money. He's just lucky I'm not running things...

I just wish this hypocrite would sell and move to another country (with apologies to all the other countries out there). Don't people see this blowhard for what he really is.... a mega millionaire who is paid to espouse hate & bigotry (and a lot of misinformation) to the gullible masses.
I just don't understand why the Republican party is so intent on dividing this country with all their hated. What does it accomplish?

He isn't going to miss any meals even if he had to sell it half the asking price. But he is in a position to wait.

We are having a bunch of high end executives from NY & NJ come to Texas and buy some sprawling homes. NY is a great city but we welcome them the transplants here with open arms to spend money and enjoy no state income tax.

Hey CNN... I know your liberal / "progressive" regulars here love to spew on anything Limbaugh... but how does the price a private citizen asks for a private residence have anything to do with political news?

Oh never mind... you've got to feed the sheep, I suppose.

    Two thoughts....

    1) Odd that a man who so publicly villifies NYC, our diversity, and our protection of our residents' civil rights...should be so in love with us that he'd plunk down a huge chunk of change to live here.

    2) It goes to show just how much the reputation of a current owner of a house can raise or, in this case, lower its value.

  23. ya know

It'll be hard to sell the place at anything above bargain-basement prices. You know how hard it is to get rid of the smell of greased-up Dominican boys, bacon and cigar-stink?
