Venice, Louisiana - Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser on Wednesday blasted the federal government's response to the oil spill that has fouled more than 100 miles of the state's coast, and called for its point man to step aside.
"Thad Allen should resign," Nungesser told CNN, referring to the U.S. Coast Guard admiral who has been leading the government's effort. "He's done absolutely nothing. He's an embarrassment to this country."
Nungesser, who had just completed a tour of the stricken area, bemoaned what he had seen. "The same oil that's been out there two weeks ago is still out there, and nothing is being done," he said. "The marsh is dying. It's dead."
He said the Coast Guard should demand that BP begin cleanup efforts immediately. "They had no plan to keep the oil out, even though they said it wouldn't come ashore," he said. "They had no plan to clean it up. They have no plan to make the fishermen whole. It's like it's being run with a bunch of seventh-graders. This is absolutely ridiculous."
I've listened to him. He's a big loud-mouth that is looking to sue someone - and is probably republican from all the mis-information he's spewing. The experts have contradicted him several times, but CNN needs ratings so they play this loud-mouth up big.
People like Nungesser can't handle the truth: There isn't much they CAN do. If they build sand breaks, it will just force the oil further ashore. These were things to be thinking of when the GOP pushed for offshore drilling with out tough regulation.
Obamas Katrina indeed. what self respecting environmentalist thnks he has done everythng possible in the response? take the whole divisive dem vs. republcn thng out of ur head 4 a min if u dare. are this administrations actions in line with their supposed passion for the preservation of the gulf and its wetlands n beaches? honestly
Funny how these bible belt states under GOP Banners are always big mouthing how they want to take care of their own.I guess that is OK when you are reaping huge profits and gains that you can cover up, but as soon as your backside gets in trouble you start crying about the feds not solving your problem. In particular Jindal from Louisiana talks a lot and sticks his nose where it doesn't belong and as soon as any problem comes up he cries like the typical Right wing hate mongering group of GOP'ERS. They all take and want help but Vote {NO } when it applies to others, You Bible thumpers should practice what you preach.
The TEA party believes we are too hard on BP..... its anti-American what we are doing criticizing business and all.
Billy Nungesser is on point. The BP mess is not Obama's Katrina; this mess is 100 times worse than Katrina.
Our southern coast is being killed and Obama is attending fund raisers.
Time to impeach the President
Boo Hoo...Billy boy. Just what do you think the Coast Guard should have done. Dive down and plugged the hole with bubble gum. You and your Bushie, Cheney, McCain and Palin buddies wanted all this off shore drilling. Remember "Drill Baby Drill"? It should have been the local governments that had a plan for stopping the potential for this sort of disaster. Remember you all want smaller government. Now you want bigger government to handle all your problems. You can't have it both ways!! You should be fired for not having a plan in place to save your own Parrish.
Don't blame the Coast Guard or the military. That's rich that the Coast Guard was made the scapegoat instead of the people that caused the spill and rig explosion in the first place.
While the the nation's gulf is dying and a 20 billion fishing industry and a 10 billion dollar gulf tourist industry dies, Obama is off fund raising and demonizing anyone who would criticise or oppose him. America knows slick talking Barack's playbook of always bllaming someone else and deflecting responsibility away from himself and it is not working any more with the vast majority of americans
Four and the Door
Since Billy Nungesser voted to put George Bush in office, he got exactly what he voted for.
I agree with Mr.Nungesser comments. You just don't see the effort being made to clean up the spill.I could pick up more oil and polluted sea water with my shop vac than these guys with all their sophisticated equipment.I've sen more boats in our local marina than in the Gulf cleaning the waters.
Blame us, the American people, for our addiction to oil.
Ah, does Bubba His Honor here think he is going to get some action from Obama by referring to him as a "disgrace to the Country". Just another stupid Redneck. Did His Honor recently chant: "Drill Baby Drill"? I think so. "As ye sow so shall ye reap".
Oh yes, we want government out of our lives until we need something.
