Palin targets 'extreme greenies' opposed to drilling

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/06/02/art.palin.twitter.jpg caption="Palin is targeting opponents of ANWR drilling on Twitter."](CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is using the Gulf Coast oil spill to promote the issue of drilling in the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge – the 20-million protected acres where untapped oil and gas reserves have long served as a lightning rod of controversy.

"Extreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?" the former Republican vice presidential nominee wrote Tuesday evening on her Twitter account.

That comment followed a similarly-themed tweet last week after President Obama announced a moratorium on deep offshore drilling for six months, while an independent commission reviews the explosion of the BP rig that caused the ongoing leak.

"Deep offshore moratorium? Then correspondingly allow more onshore drilling, incl ANWR reserves. Domestic oil's still required in US industry," she tweeted Thursday.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Palin was a strong advocate of drilling both offshore and in ANWR, a position that was repeatedly expressed her now-famous phrase "Drill Baby Drill."

In her Oct. 2008 vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Palin specifically took aim at him for opposing offshore drilling efforts.

"You even called drilling – safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore – as raping the outer continental shelf," Palin said at the debate. "There – with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that."

I'm beginning to wonder if Palin is on the payroll of Big Oil. Her remarks are astonishingly indifferent to the catastrophe going on in the gulf right now. I wonder if she would have the nerve to go down to Louisiana, Alabama or Florida right now and make these statements in public. If nothing else has been proved by this disaster in the gulf, it is that the oil companies do not have the capability to deal with any 'worst case scenarios' in their deep water rigs. That alone is all we need to know. Palin proves once again that she is marching to a drummer who has no sense of rhythm.

She's insane and clearly out of her league. This oil spill has shown not only how dangerous it is to the environment, but also how lax the rules are. This leak is going to go on for months – and we do not have the right to poison the oceans (or the earth) like this. This US disaster could end up reaching the shores of Canada and other countries and you just don't have the right – and for her to suggest drilling in a wildlife refuge.... just shows how stupid and uninformed she really is.

this woman is afraid to debate any issue with anyone who knows anything. It took her 6 colleges to get a degree and she quit halfway through being governor...what credentials does she have to comment on anything besides quitting and beauty pagents? until she goes on a respected political program and has an actual discussion where she must formulate well thought out answers to complicated problems, she will just be a shell–a sound bite with no substance.

I'm glad she pointed this out; Sarah speaks the truth yet again.

ANWR is on land; land based oil drilling is prefered because any sort of oil leak/spill would have been sealed & cleaned up in about two weeks.

But those in govt. who opposed ANWR were so narrow minded, they decided to back oil companies into a corner where the only real place they could drill is out at sea, where cleanups are much more difficult, as we now see.

The fault is half BP's and half the anti-ANWR drilling crowd. Shame on both groups.

Yup, first offshore drilling was totally safe and we needed to do more- and "greeneis" were stupid. Now, OK, maybe not so safe but ANWR, super safe and "greenies" are still stupid. I'm not liking her track record. You can say something's safe and do whatever you want to the land and water, but once it's ruined it lasts for decades... if you're lucky only decades. My god! We haven't even stopped this gusher yet and we still don't have a good handle on how big a catastrophe this is going to be... We just know it's going to be huge- and she's already yapping about drilling in other fragile areas. I'm sure when ANWR gets destroyed it will be someone else's fault just like Republicans are trying to make this Gulf disaster Obama's fault. And "greenies" will still be stupid. She disgusts me.

I was going to ask if this Palin woman was insane but I think she has already answered that.

I love how Palin just ignores the fact that she was a huge supporter of offshore drilling before this happened. There is absolutely no situation she'll admit error on.

I really don't know what to say – is this woman insane or merely a stupid puppet for big corporations that continue to push their profits higher and higher at the expense or the health and well being of every being on the planet? The whole reason she uses twitter is because she can't string enough coherent syllables together to form a complete sentence unless someone else has written it for her. Written for her so she can be the pretty pitbull in lipstick mouthpiece for the people signing the checks.

She needs to remain up there in A laska. Behind her fence, forever. Silent, looking after her kids. Out of the public eye. Get the message??

Here's an idea related to ANWR: Save the oil for now, when the world is on the brink of collapse because oil reserves are nearing an end and we still haven't changed over from our oil dependence, drill ANWR and use the enormous sums of money from our reserves of such a rare commodity to pay off the national debt.

Very un-conservative of you, Ms. Palin, wanting to use our national treasures so liberally.

  13. admit it, you hate cause she's better looking than any liberal woman!

I'll tell you why she won't go away and CNN keeps doing stories about her....Cause your hate for her gives CNN it's highest daily blog responses....do you always need the obvious explained too you?

    Palin –

Your revisionist history approach will not work on those of us with a brain and a memory. In the age of YouTube, we have PLENTY of visual / auditory evidence that you belong in the camp of Drill-Baby-Drillers that would foul our earth. I'll guarantee that other Republican politicians won't be chanting DBD like they were at the REPUBLICAN Presidential Convention in 2008.

Our Energy Policy is to GET OFF OUR OIL HABIT. Say it with me.

There is no such thing as "domestic oil". Oil is sold on the world market and if China decides it wants to bid more for Gulf of Mexico oil pumped out of the ground by British Petroleum, then it is not going to come to America. That's how the FREE MARKET [which you so ignorantly tout] WORKS.

Wind and Solar Energy is our future. When excess electricity is produced by these methods it is stored in hydro-electric dams.

It is amazing to me that Sarah Palin just has to tweet to get her ideas onto CNN and other media outlets. Others who have so much more to say never receive this much attention.

Just read what she says. It does not make sense so why repeat it.

The woman has made millions of dollars since she left the governor's office. Doesn't that say something about her values?

Yeah – the people on the coast of the Gulf are really taking solace in the fact that you proclaimed drilling as "safe."

Because an onshore explosion could result in a well fire/deaths and be a containment nightmare aswell. And the first time this hussy pushed drill baby drill in a national setting it was in regards to offshore drilling. It's must be nice to be able to lie through your teeth while being a backpedaling hypocrit.

Sarah Palin is a stone fox aint she? The Suzy Cream Cheese of the right wing whacko world. The operative word being Cheese. Do you think anyone would even listen to her if she looked like Janet Reno? Yes Sarah you are so right. If there were to be an oil spill at ANWR the spill would magicly disappear and not contaminate the fish and crab that keep the Alaskan & Canadian fisheries in business. It also wouldnt drift down to the already contaminated California coast costing those Americans millions they dont have. Do you know how to find out if an oil spill were to drift toward Russia ? You could see the Russians shaking their fists and shooting you the finger from your house. Moron!

Palin, I don't think she gets it.

You have one of the most disasterous oil spills in history and this is supposed to support MORE drilling??????

Sarah Palin..when are you going to get it???
