Palin targets 'extreme greenies' opposed to drilling

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/06/02/art.palin.twitter.jpg caption="Palin is targeting opponents of ANWR drilling on Twitter."](CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is using the Gulf Coast oil spill to promote the issue of drilling in the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge – the 20-million protected acres where untapped oil and gas reserves have long served as a lightning rod of controversy.

"Extreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?" the former Republican vice presidential nominee wrote Tuesday evening on her Twitter account.

That comment followed a similarly-themed tweet last week after President Obama announced a moratorium on deep offshore drilling for six months, while an independent commission reviews the explosion of the BP rig that caused the ongoing leak.

"Deep offshore moratorium? Then correspondingly allow more onshore drilling, incl ANWR reserves. Domestic oil's still required in US industry," she tweeted Thursday.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Palin was a strong advocate of drilling both offshore and in ANWR, a position that was repeatedly expressed her now-famous phrase "Drill Baby Drill."

In her Oct. 2008 vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Palin specifically took aim at him for opposing offshore drilling efforts.

"You even called drilling – safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore – as raping the outer continental shelf," Palin said at the debate. "There – with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that."

When will the media stop covering tweets by this fool????

She only exists on the national stage because CNN and others constantly provide her with exposure.

Time to spotlight those who have brains and understand both domestic and global issues.

    Enough is enough.

Oil is spilling on to the shore of the gulf coast and she's tweeting this? Absolutely clueless. Somebody needs to plug the spill coming out of her mouth.

Once again, I have to ask, why does this woman get all this air time? What has she done that merits all this coverage by CNN?

I keep trying to figure out WHY is this woman still talking politics?
She has no job in politics that I'm aware of. Is her job just simply to keep showing America just how ill informed she is?
Is she there for the Republicanknuckleheads to have someone they know is aggravating to the Democrats? They all can't be knuckleheads right? But... isn't she just really hurting this party?

I wonder often when she is jet setting all over, who is taking care of her tribe of children? Family Values alive and well. But...the party of hypocrites is use to this conversation.

    I just don't get it.

Yeah, I think it's a good idea to go from drilling in the ocean and threatening all of that wildlife to going to a preserve created to SAVE THE WILDLIFE there and starting drilling, so that way Alaska can potentially experience yet another catastrophic spill like the Exxon-Valdez one ... Mrs. Palin, you're an idiot. Try sponsering green re-newable SAFE energy and build wind and solar farms so that way we do not have to continue a practice that threatens our entire planet's ecological state...

I live in Alabama and would rather have the mess in Alaska than here. If she wants to foul up her state let her but make sure they clean up mine and don't mess it up again.

Palin you are a scum sucking, lying piece of dog poop. You are dumber than a box of rocks. And would be doing America a big favor if you would crawl or slither back in to the hole you dragged your self out of.

When you're right, you're right. BP should have never been drilling way out there at that depth. Congress and the Senate should be held accountable right alog side BP for this failure.

What I don't get is why, if ANWR is in Alaska, the idiot federal government has anything to say about what goes on there. Where in the Constitution are the feds given the power to tell states how to handle their own natural resources?

And don't drag out the tired old "interstate commerce" clause–ANWR is completely contained in Alaska. And the "general welfare" thing is a Constitutional objective to be achieved by Constitutional means–it doesn't, and was never intended to, give the feds unlimited power to do whatever they please as long as they can label it as "for the general welfare."

I well and truly hope that we start getting some Constitutional challenges by the states to the abuses of power by the feds–it's time and past that the federal government was reined in and held to the requirements of the Constitution.

Xtreme is spelled with an "E." Just because you are typing on a phone is no excuse for spelling. Especially if you want to be the next President.

Sara , Sara, Sara don't you understand our politics is interwoven with the Middle East oil. It does not matter how much oil we drill in our country we still have to buy oil from the Middle East to keep them as our allies. Your famous word drill baby drill is a hogwash. You do not have the knowledge or expertise about drilling. You supported offshore drilling , so what are you going to say to the people whose lives is upside down. It is easy for politicians to say drill but fall short in explaining to the people what they will do in case like the BP catastrophe happens. Oil runs our economy but is also runs our political stability around the world.

Sarah, what will you say when there is a major rig spill in Alaska? Do you not get that the oil market is global and that domestic drilling does not mean we are buying less from the middle east?
