[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/06/02/art.palin.twitter.jpg caption="Palin is targeting opponents of ANWR drilling on Twitter."](CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is using the Gulf Coast oil spill to promote the issue of drilling in the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge – the 20-million protected acres where untapped oil and gas reserves have long served as a lightning rod of controversy.
"Extreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?" the former Republican vice presidential nominee wrote Tuesday evening on her Twitter account.
That comment followed a similarly-themed tweet last week after President Obama announced a moratorium on deep offshore drilling for six months, while an independent commission reviews the explosion of the BP rig that caused the ongoing leak.
"Deep offshore moratorium? Then correspondingly allow more onshore drilling, incl ANWR reserves. Domestic oil's still required in US industry," she tweeted Thursday.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Palin was a strong advocate of drilling both offshore and in ANWR, a position that was repeatedly expressed her now-famous phrase "Drill Baby Drill."
In her Oct. 2008 vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Palin specifically took aim at him for opposing offshore drilling efforts.
"You even called drilling – safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore – as raping the outer continental shelf," Palin said at the debate. "There – with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that."
How recently the resignator was assuring her rabid mobs that off-shore drilling was safe due to new technology.
Obviously, the blow-out-preventer in her brain doesn't work, either. Every thing that pours out of her mouth is geared to produce ecological disaster.
Change your tune a bit did we? Funny you never mentioned anything about deep offshore drilling before and how you were strongly opposed to that. You own what you said Sarah so don't try to distance yourself from this disaster. I'm sure you would never have thought the Gulf spill would happen, but it did. The same thing can happen in ANWR too. If anything we need more green energy and less of you. That part I DO understand.
So Sarah, how's that whole drill baby drill thingy workin' for ya? This woman is a complete idiot and really has no real concept of the issues. She just breaks everything down the to extreme in an effort to dumb down the American people. Well since her audience is the same mental giants as Beck's the only ones they are dumbing down even more are the same 20% that the extreme right has always had. The only change has been in the name of the group, now the Tea Baggers, and the fact that they now scream and therefore get the press time, which these right wing nuts do not deserve. The press will probably wise up as they see that the Tea Baggers really don't have any power outside of their own little group as we see the results of the elections, mostly going against the Tea Baggers.
Vote NO in NOvember to the party of NO.
So she's opposed to offshore drilling now that there's been an accident but she called it safe and environmentally-friendly during the debate. You can't have it both ways, Sarah.
Palin's self-serving drivel is more bleat than tweet. She's a droid.
Wow. I can't even find the words to express myself. When will this person finally shut up? Better yet Sarah - get down there and help with the cleanup efforts. You wanted this, now deal with it.
I wish they'd use her mouth to cap the well! What a moron, but then again, we already knew this. Why don't you go to the gulf and help with the clean up, Sarah? I can't use the words here to describe how this lunatic grates on my nerves.
Here the queen of stupid keeps spouting off.
Aren't you, even the most ardent Republican, glad that you didn't choose this twit to be the vice-president?
Drill, baby, drill. Pollute, baby, pollute.
It is interesting how now her focus does a right turn and is no longer a discussion of the benefits of off shore drilling. How convenient, eh, your nutcase.
Someone please take the technology away from her. Please.
Its her and the GOP'ers attitude of "drill baby drill" along with a complete failure during the Bush administration to have any meaningful regulation while allowing Minerals and Mine Management to have sex and drug fueled orgies with oil company lobbyists that has allowed the worst environmental disaster in history. Yeah Sarah, "drill baby drill" – you haven't screwed up enough of the environment yet in the name of the almighty dollar. There's still a few pristine places left in this country that we need to rape and pillage. You are a stupid, stupid woman Sarah. You are an embarrassment to this country and one of the most ignorant politicians to ever appear on the national stage. Do the Republicans a favor and go back to your hillbilly, meth-lab, podunk town and disappear so intelligent people can actually have reasonable discussions about solving this country's problems instead of simply riling up your base of ignorant redneck fools with your ridiculous sound bites. Someone should soak your head in the pool of grotesque oil spreading in the gulf so you can see, first hand what your ignorant rhetoric has caused.
Sarah Palin is not worth a comment.
You would think that a smart person like her would just shut up and not mention the "drill baby drill" at a time like this.
Gee- her mantra was drill, baby, drill, with no distinction between onshore and offshore, and certainly none between shallow offshore and deep offshore.
Now it's simply:
Shrill, baby, shrill!
As usual, saying whats useful to further her own brand rather than being honest with herself or the public. Same as always.
"Xtreme Greenies?" What's that make you, quitter, with millions of gallons of crude the color of your hair fouling Gulf states? Why not call that color "Palin hair brown?"
This woman defies all rational explanation for her existence. I have to wonder what God was thinking? Very happy to hear about the reporter that has moved next door to her. I hope they are relentless in letting the world at-large know of her total lack of anything resembling intelligence.
Stupid is as stupid does. When will she go away?
I guess I'm an "xtreme greenie". That is, I don't like it that BP has created the Gulf of Mess-ico and destroyed the livelihoods of thousands along the third coast. I also don't like it that "Spill, Baby, Spill" Palin has tried to turn this disaster into a reason to cause more disaster in Alaska, and at the same time distance herself from the consequences of her own off-shore drilling advocacy. And, I don't like it that a failed governor from a state with a tiny population gets so much media coverage for her outrageous antics, preposterous reasoning, and outright lies.
Hateful, nasty, misinformed, partisan, poorly-worded, nonsensical ramblings are par for the course with Caribou Barbie. Nothing to see here. Let's move on.
This tweeting twit is the one who doesn't get it. i've never seen anyone so anti-environment. she needs to educate herself about the basics of biology and earth sciences and maybe she'd see how ignorant and fanatical her blathering is. ANWR is the last place on earth we should be drilling. we do not own the earth, we share it with millions of other species. and we've shirked our enormous responsibility to keep this planet livable for all. where does ms bendy-straw think we're going to live once we foul the earth to the point that it's uninhabitable? and if she or any of the climate change deniers think we can't do that, just look at the gulf.
Governor Palin's comments make perfect sense, and in light of the issues we now see with deep water drilling, tapping on shore resources makes even more sense. While Obama buries his head in the sand – -puts a moratorium on all drilling - and forms a commission which conveniently will not report anything until after the mid term elections, at least Sarah Palin is giving us positive avenues to energy solutions, and encourages us to take action. Obama had become the party of NO, and Palin is showing good thoughtful leadership.
AFTER what had transpired in the Gulf of Mexico with BP, I want you to hear me when I say this, Sarah Palin, loud and clear:
IT WILL BE A COLD DAY IN HELL BEFORE WE LET YOU DRILL IN ANWR!!!!
And that's not too far away.
Shut Up PA'IN!!!!!!!! You and your "Drill Baby Drill" and NOW it's "Spill Baby Spill" and eventually it will be "Kill Baby Kill"!!!!
You are an IDIOT!!!!!
Would CNN find the journalistic competence (or fortitude) to point out Palin's wild support of offshore drilling?
Revising history may be Palin's specialty, but I can't seem to recall her mentioning that her love of drilling in U.S. waters was only due to restrictions on the modest ANWR reserves.
(And, by the way, we have incredibly lax standards on drilling everywhere else in the country, so what other places is she even pretending to reference?)
She has yet to be correct about anything.
