Palin targets 'extreme greenies' opposed to drilling

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/06/02/art.palin.twitter.jpg caption="Palin is targeting opponents of ANWR drilling on Twitter."](CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is using the Gulf Coast oil spill to promote the issue of drilling in the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge – the 20-million protected acres where untapped oil and gas reserves have long served as a lightning rod of controversy.

"Extreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?" the former Republican vice presidential nominee wrote Tuesday evening on her Twitter account.

That comment followed a similarly-themed tweet last week after President Obama announced a moratorium on deep offshore drilling for six months, while an independent commission reviews the explosion of the BP rig that caused the ongoing leak.

"Deep offshore moratorium? Then correspondingly allow more onshore drilling, incl ANWR reserves. Domestic oil's still required in US industry," she tweeted Thursday.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Palin was a strong advocate of drilling both offshore and in ANWR, a position that was repeatedly expressed her now-famous phrase "Drill Baby Drill."

In her Oct. 2008 vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Palin specifically took aim at him for opposing offshore drilling efforts.

"You even called drilling – safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore – as raping the outer continental shelf," Palin said at the debate. "There – with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that."

"Xtreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?" the former Republican vice presidential nominee wrote Tuesday evening on her Twitter account.

Sarah, this leak is precisely why we need to stop with your Drill Baby Drill nonsence. Now do you get it?

EXACTLY RIGHT! If this oil well was on land, any leak could and would be taken care of right away, instead of the current nightmare.

Palin reminds me of the bush years, when war is peace, WMD's but there weren't any, Leave No Child Behind that left millions of children in crowded classrooms, the Medicare Prescription Drug program that seniors couldn't understand and had the do-nut hole, costing them thousands, Abstinence Only for teens and teen pregnancies went up, the Friendly Forest act that cut down all the trees and the list goes on. And now with the largest oil disaster in the history of the world Palin is advocating drilling in one of the last pristine places in the world so we can mucky that up too? What a disgusting person she is.

Drilling exacts a huge environmental cost on land as well. Doesn't Palin know that the oil that catastrophically affected Alaska when the Exxon Valdez spill occurred came from this supposedly "safe" oil she's talking about? Doesn't she remember the big pipeline spill up there a few years ago?

Palin lives in a fact free zone. If she loved America, she would be pushing at least equally hard for measures to reduce use of petroleum products in our country. That she is not shows she is a typical phony.

Although I'm a Obama supporter for the most part, I have to agree with Palin on this one. We need oil. While developing solar and other resources, we should also do at-least on shore drilling. Let's use what resources we have now; in the future there will be new and better technology.

Ummmm.....cause we think we got technology under control all the time? So that this can happen in the wildlife preserves? I must have missed a memo....

Can someone, anyone, just drill a hole in her head? Oh wait, that would already be there where her brain is supposed to be. I'm glad that it is finally coming out that Shotgun Sarah (yes, she put away the shotgun after she and mac lost the campaign – it was to be used for the wedding that never took place, so now she has an illegitimate grandchild, just like most of her fans.....) was the one screaming to DRILL, BABY, DRILL!! Guess she forgot that.... hmmm.. trash, people, is not what we need leading this country!!

There is no such thing as "safe" drilling..nothing is 100 percent safe..If anything after this disaster most people are grateful that the drilling didn't take place in our own backyard..I just love the way she attempts to spins things, no matter how ridiculous she sounds.

The Republicans are running scared because of this oil spill.their friends in the oil industry will lose billions of dollars because of it.

While looking at the greatest environmental disaster in our lifetime unfolding before our eyes, this moron supports drill baby, drill. While new technology may have improved drilling efficiency, it has not improved drilling safety. Drilling should be stopped until safety is proven.

Those who support Sister Sarah prove that republicans are incapable of intelligent thought!

It makes me laugh every time when the media drags any non-existing titles behind to her name to make it sound like she is something. The woman currently does not hold any government offices or even a job. She is Mrs.Todd Palin, housewife.
