Larry King interviews Obama: BP, immigration, and more

(CNN) - CNN's Larry King sat down with President Barack Obama Thursday for an interview airing at 9 p.m. ET.

The highlights:

- Obama said that Israel "has legitimate security concerns" in Gaza, but the Israeli blockade "is preventing people" from pursuing economic opportunities. This week's incident regarding the flotilla is a "tragic situation," he said. We need to "use [it] as an opportunity" to advance the Middle East peace process.

- Obama criticized Arizona's immigration law, warning that, among other things, it
could lead to "50 different laws in 50 different states." Border security is a federal concern.

- Obama said it would be a "wonderful story" if NBA star LeBron James stays in Cleveland, but he needs a team and coach "that he respects." James is a "wonderful young man" and an
"amazing talent," he said.

- Obama said he still supports off-shore oil drilling "if it can be done safely."

- Obama said that the situation in the Gulf of Mexico "is an unprecedented oil spill." But "it could have been even worse" if the federal government hadn't reacted quickly.

- Obama said that "BP caused this spill ... [and] they're responsible" for paying the costs. "My job is to make sure they're being held accountable," he said. But BP has the "best equipment" to stop the spill.

- Obama said he is "furious at this entire situation" in the Gulf of Mexico because "somebody didn't think through the consequences of their actions." Obama said he has not seen enough of a rapid response from BP.

- Obama said that the government was not extending a moratorium on deep-water oil drilling to shallow-water wells.

Look....Bush sat on his hands for 8 years and really didn't do much except pout about not winning the war in Iraq. The economy collapsed, Wall Strret got a bailout, and immigration was at it's worst level ever. Enter President Obama. He turned around the economy, refocused the military on the real issue – Afghanistan, passed health care, is holding Wall Street accountable for the money Bush gave them, and his administration is trying to tackle Immigration now. He's only been in office 18 months. Immigration issues didn't just start this year people! And where is McCain on this whole thing....AZ is his home state. Why didn't he help out years ago?

The only reason AZ enacted this legislation was because the Federal government either would not or could not do it themselves. The state then extended the discover and detain authority to local law enforcement, but the final disposition of the illeagls remained in Federal Hands. And you remember what was said about that .... something like we have no intention of doiing anything about illeagals refered to us by AZ....

Deduction here is that the federal government would/will not police our borders.

    President Obama,
With dozens of states voting this November on cannabis law reform, will your White House encourage the Congress to lift the federal laws against cannabis and its derivatives? Our country needs the revenue and the ease on our law enforcement and court strain.

If Obama is reelected in 2012...China will become the leader of the not so free world and our lively hood as we know it will be over.... I just don’t see how we can rebound from 12 years of poor leadership and disaster after disaster. I know we can do it, but our Nation from my vantage point is so sinful and corrupt, I don’t see have God is going to lead us out of this one.

This President has achieved two major victories for the Democrats, i.e. Health Care Reform and soon-to-be Financial reforms.
In the 8-years George Bush and Dick Cheney were in control, please let me what did they achieve – except "WATERBOARDING". Let's be honest the President is only in office a little over a year and you all want him to do everything, including cleaning up the mess the Bush/Cheney administration created and everything thing else. Be patient America, two major reforms and more to come!!!!

1.) Israel boarded a ship in INTERNATIONAL WATERS ... took it over and forced it to dock at its shore where it took the cargo. Gee ... that's what we call PIRACY off the coast of Somalia. Why should we call it something different now?

2/) Arizona wants to impact illegal aliens? Pass a state law that would incarcerate business owners, executives, and managers that hire illegal aliens. Put the burden of proof on the businesses. I guarantee they will err on the side of cautiousness. That law ... which would not tread on FEDERAL LAW ... would eliminate the demand for low cost labor.

3.) It's a rupture, not an oil spill.

I am tired of uninformed, ENGINEERING ILLITERATE television and newspaper talking heads [like Chris Matthews (who I usually like) , Maureen Dowd, James Carvelle] suggesting that there are viable ideas to stop the spill that are not being considered. Matthews can't credibly comment and he sounds like a dufus because he, nor Elliot Spitzer understand the basics of pressure, viscosity, flow dynamics.

I don't need an angry president ... I need a competent one and I'm confident that NO DRAMA OBAMA has been on the case from the beginning.

The only thing I'd like to see is that "Supertaker effort" to intercept the oil 10 or more miles from the coast by pumping water & oil in and pumping water out.

  7. Really?

@KateHikes "Obongo is bought and paid for by big jew. I mean seriously, you think that a nog could win the presidency without some swarthy yid propping him up at every moment?"

Wow, what an angry, pathetic little man you must be. NB: Nazism went out of fashion about 65 years ago. Consider acquiring a new hobby.

Think through the consequences of their actions? What about the laws that were passed with out even being read... How about cabinet members making statements about the law in AZ with out having read the law.... AND are the Cambridge police really stupid, oh wait he tried to squirm out of that one.....

If this administration would thing it would be a tremendous boon for this country

Obama is right, "border security is a federal concern" and 20 million illegals reflects directly on what we should expect from Obamacare.

Does the rest of the US NOT know a county in Virginia and a country in Maryland enacted virtually the same laws as Arizona three years ago? Their crime went down. There was no outcry from the federal government and why should it....their are laws in place and the federal government does not enforce them. We just give a platform to the Mexican president and the dems applaud him.

Ok, the media wants the POTUS to show "anger" so they can show the same clip on tv over, and over, and over, and over again until it becomes sick to watch.

But here's the question, after he shows "anger".........then what?

For example, you have a sick child in the hospital. Do you get angry and throw a tantrum that the child is sick, or do you track down a doctor to find a cure?

People need to understand that he is a chief executive that has to come up with ideas, and solutions; Not yelling in a microphone woe is me!
