Paul McCartney plays hits at White House

Washington (CNN) - A long and winding road brought Sir Paul McCartney to the White House on Wednesday, where he was honored by the president of the United States and performed some of the most famous songs from his catalogue with the Beatles and after.

President Barack Obama awarded McCartney the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and then, along with a little help from some of his friends, such as Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris and others, McCartney rocked the East Room of the White House.

Obama noted McCartney had been involved in writing more than 200 songs that had made the charts of bestsellers, and his songs had stayed on those charts for a cumulative total of over 32 years. McCartney shook his head in wonder at that fact.

Unfortunately, McCartney couldn't resist demeaning the US Presidency with an insult to a former president.

I guess for all his fame and riches, McCartney is still uneducated and boorish.

Yep another non US citizen invited to mock a previous US president. Why do we honor these loosers anyway? Another case of a rich millionaire having loose lips and swooning another in our WH.

I wonder if Obama was thinking about a long and winding road to stopping an OIL SPILL.

Paul McCartney like it or not is a genius who proved time and time again that he can write, produce and perform with the best of them.

Americans are so caught up in worshiping entertainers. I just can't understand this. Please realize that entertainers are just that. They are like an organ grinder's monkey. They will put on a little dance then scramble around on the ground to grab up the money we throw at them for the dance.

Entertainers provide a service which we pay for.

I have been a huge fan of Paul McCartney for a long time and he is well deserving to receive this award .
However to be a guest at the White House and make derogatory remarks about a previous President is rude and unacceptable.
Americans should be outraged and not tolerate such behavior.

Obama sure has his priorities in order. Parties at the White house are more important than focusing on the Guld oil leak. Loser!

  9. The reality is...

Unsecured borders, gulf oil mess, unemployment rising, Israel on the brink of war, Afghanistan, etc.... and our Commander in Chief is kicking back with a rock star.

I love McCartney's music but his political views are weird enough to keep me from buying his music.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? While our oceans are being destroyed he's getting a free concert? The media would have burned bush on a stick for this.
