Waiting to be interviewed by affiliate KXTV Wednesday morning, Fiorina is clearly heard taking a dig at her rival for the California Senate seat, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California.
"God, what is that hair?" a laughing Fiorina said, while quoting a friend who had recently seen Boxer on television. "So yesterday."
Fiorina also questioned why Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman had decided to go on Sean Hannity's show the day after winning her party's primary.
"It's really surprising that on the first day of the general [election], Meg Whitman is going on Sean Hannity," she said. "I think it's bizarre…I think it's a very bad choice actually. You know how he is."
Contacted by CNN about the comments, a spokesperson for Fiorina downplayed the remarks. "This was nothing but early morning small talk," Fiorina campaign press secretary Amy Thoma said in an e-mail to CNN.
–CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart contributed to this report.
lol this seemed more like a slam on Hannity than it does on Boxer. I have NO problem with what she said although I don't think it went over well with the FoxNews bunch....we KNOW how they are!!
I will not make fun of Fiorina's hair as some have because I know she has had breast cancer.
I will comment though that as a republican candidate she is probably against the healthcare reform bill and for its recall. As someone who has had cancer (albeit the treatment was probably completely covered by HP) you would think she could sympathize with those who are dropped from their insurance companies and blacklisted because they have had cancer (something that the healthcare bill is supposed to prevent).
What do you expect? She's from California! It's a requirement to be a self-centered whack job.
Vote for for Fiorina, she is planning to outsource your jobs to help her corporate pals become richer!
Tom in Millstadt her Butch hair... you do know that she just beat cancer she was bald a couple months ago.
This is just the first of many gaffes that Carly will make over the course of the campaign. Remember her talking about her client (Senator McCain) and saying how he couldn't run a major corporation?
Barbara just has to mind her Ps and Qs and keep talking about the jobs that Carly shipped overseas. Profits have always come before people for her and I haven't heard or seen anything that says her attitude has changed. Barbara doesn't have that much to worry about. Carly will self-destruct in due course.
Yep, a really intelligent comment – I'd ask "how shallow" she could get but the answer might be shocking ....
Do you really want someone that HP fired to represent you in Congress – one whose company was selling (breaking the law) to Iran – who lied about it then admitted it? Or does sending someone already corrupt save time and training ... ????
Remember Carley – fork on the left, knife in the back.
How sophomoric.
It's very disrespectful and unprofessional of CNN to make these comments available to the public. Just because a politician is interviewing with them doesn't mean they have a right or a duty to secretly record there conversation and then make comments that were said with an expectation of privacy public.
Shame on you CNN.
Love it at least Carly has a sense of humor. And, for Boxere what is up with the hair. As for deb's coment on on Fiorina's hair–it is growing back after going thru chemotherapy (not much on doing research are ya?) . Boxer is a self centered quack, " Please call me Senator–I've worked hard for it".
CNN – your kidding. A lady talking about another ladies hair is your top story. Oh I forgot – this is a Repulican Lady talking about one of your Democrat Ladies.
And you want to know why you keep losing audiance.
Fiorina has an excuse for her hair. She lost it because of chemo. Boxer however looks like a crazy bag lady and makes as much sense as one.
I guess everyone forgot that Carly is/was a cancer patient. More than likely that is why her hair is that short way.
Saw the interview. I just hope California remembers in November.
I am anxiously awaiting Boxers take on this.
as Ron White would say...you can't fix stupid!
...don't give a rat's behind about shrek's girly pal. cnn...i saw the palin wants obama call headline while scanning the news. please stop cramming this insignificant egotistical witch down our throats. i would like to read the news without being forced to see any of her bought & paid for ad headlines. please stop it or those of us with any sense will start getting our online news from msnbc or cbs. it's way past time to close the curtain on that one!
Ha, November will be very interesting!
We shall see. Whether the issue that matter is the hair or how to better be a good senate that will have the interest of ordinary Americans or interest of the Cooperate Americans!
Indeed, November will tell!
Typical woman being catty, lol.
On February 20, 2009 Fiorina was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery at Stanford Hospital on March 2, 2009 followed by chemotherapy, which caused her to lose her hair, and radiation therapy
All of you dopes making jokes about her hair – I sincerely hope that you never have to go through this. Peace.
Wow, the cattiness is uncalled for. Ms Fiorina should take a good look at herself before talking about others.
That's how Republicans act. They seem to think they are better than the rest of us. I think Barbara Boxer is a beautiful woman inside and out.
Well at least she didn't say anything foul. Let us not forget that VP Biden is the king of the vulgar open mic blunders.
The original wicked witch of the west. why would anyone vote for her? she is a total failure.
I'm a Democrat and no Fiorina fan, but are there any decent people out there who don't find this kind of hot mic "gotcha" revolting? KXTV & CNN are encouraging us to snoop on an individual's private conversation? New rule: if you wouldn't like it done to you, maybe you shouldn't do it to others?
I don't know what the law is in California, but in my state it's flat out ILLEGAL to record a private conversation without consent. There's single-party consent for phone calls (that is you can record anyone you speak with on the phone without their knowing), but there's no such exception for conversations in person. You simply can't walked around wired for sound like you were going to bust a Mafiosi.
At the very least, this recording looks to me like a gross invasion of privacy, and any fair-minded person should oppose it. Since KXTV knew––or should have known––it was recording half of a phone conversation, perhaps it was infringing on Federal wiretapping laws to boot?
The fact that Forina is not exactly "Marilyn" should keep her from casting aspersions on the looks of others. The fact that she was caught on an "open mike" is pretty stupid considering the hoopla when Joe Biden did it. If he got ripped for it, so should she.Actually, I don't care what she does because I wouldn't vote for someone who screwed up badly enough to get fired from a multi million dollar job. I wouldn't trust them.California desperately needs the best and that doesn't include her. 'Nuff said.!
Like we need another right wing fascist with the same old tax breaks for the rich formula. Slime bag republicans!
