Official: Justice Department plans to sue over Arizona law

(CNN) - Obama administration lawyers are planning to file a legal challenge to a controversial Arizona immigration law within a month, according to a senior administration official.

The Justice Department would not confirm the claim, saying only that "The Justice Department is continuing to review the law."

Federal government lawyers who have been working on the expected challenge for several weeks will most likely file their arguments in federal court in Phoenix in the days leading up to July 28, when the statute is scheduled to take effect, the official said.

This administration is breathtakingly stupid. Not only does this anger the majority of the American people, I mean REALLY anger them, but they will lose the case in the end. Obama is without doubt the worst, and yes, the most obtuse President ever!

Why?????? Arizona has taken a step to help protect our country against illegal entry to our country. Why does President Obama want to let people enter our country illegally???

Doesn't President Obama want a police officer to make sure that the person getting a traffic citation is in our country legally?????

No Passport, no Visa, no Permit, no entry to the USA, same rule is practiced in Germany, Spain, England, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Holland, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, etc.....Why should the USA be different?

What happened to the 1200 National Guard troops he promised he was going to sent to help patrol the USA/Mexico border????

When is this administration going to stop goofing off and start taking care of business? Illegal aliens have already broken the law that is why they are called Illegal! Deport them all and take back our land and country. How many thousands of acres has this administration given to Mexico? Take it back!

another stupid move by this joke for a president. I hope it gets thrown out of court the first day. Other states need to pass a bill like this. By the way what are they trying to prove it is modeled after the federal law which this so called president refuses to inforce??

What an insult. For decades our Presidents and Justice Departments have failed to uphold the federal immigration laws. Now that the state of Arizona has finally shown the courage to step into the federal void, Obama is going to interfere. Just like the government has blocked efforts of common citizens to mitigate the tragic effects of the BP oil spill, the government is blocking the efforts of a state to mitigate the tragic effects of the giant leak of illegal aliens into our nation. Just who is Obama working for, the people of Mexico or the people of the U.S. Let's make sure he's a one-term president.

On what grounds? The fact that the AZ law is a mirror of the fed law?

    Good luck with that.

Careful Republicans – this will be bad if the fed wins the lawsuit against AZ. I don't care what you believe, at the end of the this "Obama and the Dems" will have locked in the fastest growing population vote – Latinos and Hispanics. You better find a way to step on the bandwagon, because the left is going to own the Southwest.

Just speaking in political terms, you know, because you only care about saving your own arse.

WHAT? I understood that the Arizona law is the same standard as the Federal law. It is illegal to come into the country illegally. Even a non-lawyer can figure that one out. If you want to come to this country to live and work, not even interested in citizenship, there is a process. If the process is broke – fix the process, Don't break the law!!

I expect for all the right-wing conservatives to bash Obama saying its government interfering in states rights....like always! They complain government is doing much of the oil spill, and when the banks are in the brink of collapsing, they beg government to safe tthem...make up your mind. This is about equal rights and agaisnt discrimination, so please dont pull the "oh the federal government" is interfering card...that u guys have been pulling for decades!

The million dollar question: Is Brewer up to the challenge? Truth be told, I doubt she ever really intended for her little side-show theatrics to be played out quite so dramatically?

In fact, I doubt she ever really intended to enforce this T.V. pandering law she signed into effect one way or another. Well, the side show is over. Let's see if she can handle the heat.

It is YOUR law now, Arizona. So, do tell: Why are all of you now crying for the Feds to help enforce it?

The state of Arizona should turn around and sue the Federal government for not acting on the law they jpassed 10 or so years ago, regarding illegal immigation and jpolicies to control the number of illegals in this counrty. Arizona's law is just a copy of the Federal laws, to bad no one in the Justice department can read!

Something is wrong when illegals have more rights than citizens!

    So, you're gonna file a challenge to AZ's SB 1070. I'm shocked I tell you , SHOCKED!

Take a number and get in line behind all of the other "open border" and "illegal brown is beautiful" Latino racists from La Raza that are doing the same thing.

And by the way, I can't wait to be asked "papers please". I carry them with me all the time and I'm proud to show I'm an American to anyone and anytime I can. How 'bout you?

Or are you one of those illegal's or their drama queen supports who run around bleating and braying that AZ law enforcement types are nothing but a bunch of brown shirted, jack booted neo-Nazis out to harrass "browns" for no reason?

Ahh, that's right folks, no more state laws, welcome to the USSA.
Did Obama ever think that MAYBE, just MAYBE Arizona was gonna do it themselves because Washington has failed for the last, oh, say 20 something years on immigration?

And by the way, the law ISN'T NEW! ANY officer, in ANY state can do the EXACT SAME THING. Why? Because it is a FEDERAL LAW that you carry proof of citizenship if you are a foreigner. I know, I know, we are all here, so let it be. Sure. Hey, I think we should just legalize EVERY illegal alien here. Charge em a $2000 fine/application fee, and now they can pay taxes. They already use up tax payor dollars, might as well start contributing some too.

They should file suit against the Federal Govt for not enforcing the laws they are responsible for, then AZ wouldn't need this law!
It only makes sense to the Fed Govt to not do what it's supposed to do, then sue Arizona for attempting to do the Feds job! The incompetence of our Federal Govt. is amazing!
