First lady thanks Justice Department staff for work on oil spill

Washington (CNN) - First lady Michelle Obama visited the Justice Department on Wednesday to thank employees for their work in the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, but she warned them their long hours are not going to be ending soon.

"These are going to be tough times and we are going to need every one of you to buckle up and work even harder," she told a cheering crowd of several hundred Justice workers.

"Many folks here in this agency are working tirelessly to ensure that accountability is going on, that we are protecting taxpayers dollars and that we are helping those affected by the oil spill to get back to their feet, and people need to know that the Department of Justice is at the center of that work," she said.

The first lady praised the federal legal force for upholding the law and fighting for fairness, but avoided mention of any of several controversial issues in which Justice Department lawyers are currently engaged, including the oil drilling moratorium, Arizona's immigration law, and plans for the Guantanamo detainees.

Michelle Obama has visited several federal agencies to express White House appreciation for the work done by career civil servants.

Maybe her husband should do a little work as well and less golf, vacations, dinner parties and vacations all over this earth.

Michelle Obama thanking federal employees for enforcing an illegal act of a president. She is apparently as ignorant of the constitution and US law as her husband.

Far be it for me to criticize our First Lady because I find her to be a very lovely lady, but as far as one reads, especially here on the Ticker, NO ONE is DOING anything to help alleviate the suffering for those being affected by the oil spill, except perhaps, work ing on improving their golf scores.

Thank you, Michelle, for saying what many of us should have been saying, yet haven't.

Thanking the legal staff rom bring suit? How about thanking the people that are actually doing something to contain and cleanup the pollution? We can sort the legal accountability out later; right now, stop the spread of the slick! Any other effort is a waste of manpower.

So many people are clueless about what's actually being done. Either they are trying to bend facts or I guess they'd have to watch something other fox media to get informed.
There is a lot being done, and as we all know the corporations need to be forced to do the right thing – which is exactly what Mrs. Obama is showing gratitude for.
How do you people survive childhood with so little functional brain matter?
Vacations were Dubya's specialty, probably we can be thankful that he worked (screwed up) only a third of his time in office the rest was at his estate in Crawlford. If he had had half the determination as Obama does Dubya would have completed his de-evolution of the US into Cheney's dream of a fascist state.

It's better to thank the Justice Department than to apologize to BP as Republicans do. FLOTUS, your thanks is welcomed.

The Obama handlers always let Michelle out when the polls show that the president has dropped in the polls. Obama's efforts in the gulf were weak at best. Now he's using 'the crisis' to push his economy-killing cap and trade legislation–that has nothing to do with the oil spill.

Michelle is just there because people don't associate her with her hubbies poor decisions and poll numbers.

There are two kind of work, physical and menital.. one you leave it on the job the other one take it home with you. Those who really work while in the office never leave it so they need more time out to plan, while those do physical need only a short break and be ready to go back to work. One word thank!

Michelle summed up the character flaw in liberal thinking. She is thanking the lawyers for bringing "fairness". In the liberal mind, the law is subordinate to fairness. As fairness is always subjective, the liberal ideal always leads to totalitarianism.

And while your husband , the President was golfing, playing basketball, having white house dinners and being entertained by Paul. What were you doing, Michele? Oh! I forgot you were standing by your man, to bad it wasn't when he finally got down to the gulf! You say you to are a lawyer, well what is it you know about the constitution! Maybe you can teach your husband!

Obama's Justice Dept.: on the front line in his war against American citizens and businesses, and to support for little (illegal) guys.

By the way, nice "well toned arms", Michelle. I bet you can use them to smack the devil out of Barack...

thank you First Lady for visiting the Justice Department, and forwarding our thanks to them. Ignore the Obama haterson this thread.
While you're there, could you ask DOJ to remove the corrupt Judge that owns thousands of shares in the oil industry, who refused to enforece the President's moratorium. The corruption needs to be weeded (bush wacked) out.

Also, BP needs to be prosecuted for chasing off the press, and chasing of animal rescue teams, while they torch endangered turtles trapped in the oil.

Thank God we have President Obama and our beautiful First Lady in this time of crisis in our country. I know that they truely care what happens to our planet. I shutter to think of the nightmare this country would be in right now if McCain/Palin were running the show. We would be in the worse depression ever seen after the stock market, bank and auto industry collapse. All brought on by the deregulations put in place by the Republicans. We would be footing the bill for the oil spill. All of these whiners need to stop and think before you spout off. What you see on Fox is NOT TRUE. The sky is not falling!

Of course, NOBODY is doing what they are supposed to do to plug this hole at the bottom of the ocean; and yet it should be SO easy, I don't understand why NOBODY is able to do it.
Let's see....MAYBE because when it was ok for the "economy" to have an oil rig outside Louisiana, the Governor and all the Louisiana (now complaining) residents thought it was ok not to oversight BP, and now NOBODY has an idea how to stop the leak...of course Obama is the first responsible that comes up in your mind. It makes SOOO much sense...
You guys are too used to "cowboy" approch to problem solving, that don't even think that the problem is so much bigger than you think!

What an Idiot for a first lady.....

Wow she is barking up the wrong tree.

Thats right Michelle your husband sent a bunch of lawyers to fix and oil spill.
Not engineers, not scientists, not iron workers, not oil men, NO a bunch of lawyers.

She is part of the problem and she is a significant part of the disease.
Lets SUE the pants off BP because that will solve the problem..
This white house is a joke.

These are going to be tough times????? it has been tough times for 65 days on those poor people of Louisiana, What is she talking about? Maybe she should have visited Louisiana when the oil spill first happened, but wait, she can still go there every weekend since it is still leaking and help clean up, she did say we will need everyone to buckle up and work harder, right??????
