Haley praises Arizona, rejects notion of additional stimulus

(CNN) – Newly-minted South Carolina Republican gubernatorial nominee Nikki Haley showed her conservative bona fides Wednesday in an interview that aired on CNN's John King, USA.

"Absolutely not," Haley said when asked by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King whether, as governor, she would accept additional economic stimulus funds from Democratically-controlled Washington. "You know, that's the problem that we've had right now, is government is trying to be all things to all people. What we need to understand is, this is not about losing teachers, this is not about losing law enforcement, this is not about what you spend, it's about how you spend."

Haley weighed in with praise for Arizona's controversial illegal immigration law.

"I applaud what Arizona did," she told King. "I applaud the governor. And I think that every state in the country is going to turn around and start looking at what they need to do to take care of themselves. I think that's part of states' rights and that's what we want to do."

The South Carolina Republican added, "I think Arizona did the right thing. But I also that that the federal government needs to look at what Arizona did and realize that they did that because the federal government did not do its job and is not securing the borders."

And Haley supported President Obama's decision to change the leadership of the U.S. military operation in Afghanistan after Rolling Stone magazine published an article in which Gen. Stanley McChrystal was critical of members of Obama's national security team.

"I think the president did what he needed to do," Haley said of Obama's decision earlier Wednesday to replace McChrystal with Gen. David Petraeus.

Finally, Haley praised another prominent female Republican, former Alaska Gov. and GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

"I think she has been a national figure that has taught people the power of their voice," Haley said of Palin, who endorsed the South Carolina Republican's gubernatorial bid.

"I think she is trying to remind elected officials that they are not the ones in charge, but the people are," Haley added of Palin.

Haley, you're just another Republican tool.

Arizona's immigration law is being challenged by the federal government.

The power of Palin's obnoxious voice is going to have Democrats swamping the election booths this November. Palin is a disgrace to this country.

you go girl we need more like you to put the kibosh on this illegal alien crap we the people will not accept Obama and the pro amnesty parasites plan to grant another amnesty we will fight with Gov. Brewer and Joe Arpaio until this government gets it through their thick skulls that we will not stand for any more amnesty and we want the 200 million that are here to go home we are tired of taking care of the arrogant invaders while American taxpayers are starving for the same right to a better life that this government is giving to the illegals we paid for this country to be what it is today and we should reap our just benefits instead of a greedy corrupt government giving what we worked so hard for to illegal aliens at the same time allowing Calderon to dictate policy about what we should do for "his citizens" that's a lot of gall. you go get it straight tell congress it's over no more amnesty for any reason.
Calderon should spend his time trying to fix MEXICO they have a hundred lifetimes of issues that he should be addressing

What does she propose for immigration? I'd like to see the governors that claim Washington isn't doing enough fast enough to have their own plan. I'd like to see all 50 governors says something together... Maybe that would give people like Haley an idea of how hard it is to get something through Congress.

    No Haley,
You wouldn't accept stimulus money, because you FAIL to realize that history proves it works. You FAIL to comprehend what a stimulus is and its function. You FAIL to be able to budget for teachers, firefighters, police officers...all "government jobs." YOU AND YOUR PARTY demonize those jobs, demonizing and minimizing them like a pinch penny mizer. Your party fails everytime to invest money into our country.... We need to keep those jobs, like every civilized society. We need to invest MONEY into maintenance of roads, sewers, bridges, etc., this is how America stays stable and able to do business.

Why does the Republican Party continually bash good government jobs? Why do Republicans even run for "government" jobs?

I disagree wih Haley in supporting what Obama did in his decision to accept the resignation of the general. Whatever was said in the Rolling Stone magazine was plain truth and Obama did not want to face the truth about himself and his administration. Good for the general he had the guts to say what he thought openly whereas thousands are afraid to say it. He no doubt knew that he would be let go but facts are facts. I now would not support Haley if I lived in her state because of her backing Obama and being a republican.

The war in Afghan will now be in a complete disaster because of not having the general in charge. Haley is so wrong in her statement she needs to get a grip. I suspect that all will not be as good as the public think if Haley becomes governor because she appears to be playing the ropes. If she is a solid republican then she should not be supporting Obama in his moves. I am in full support of the general because he said what he meant and meant what he said. Good for him. There are politicians that would not have the guts to do that only think it.

South Carolina is one of the poorest states in the union. After listening to her the state will remain that way. For once can a politician represent the people who voted them in instead of a party ideology. Last time I checked Sarah Palin doesn't live in South Carolina!

Arizona should be praised and OBAMA rode out of the White House on a greased rail. If he sues the State it should be his last act before impeachment proceedings start. He fired a top ranked General who did far less than what he did in APOLOGIZING TO OUR ENEMIES FOR WHAT WRONGS THAT HAD BEEN DONE THEM. Is this not a piece of crap. I am sick of this man. The General didn't even mention him in his statements to his friends but his supporters all think he did a grand thing. The scare crow was doing nothing but covering his ass standing there and running down a man he could not even be an aide to must less shine his shoes. IN FACT THAT IS THE ONLY APPROPRIATE JOB I SEE FOR THIS ILLEGAL WHO BRAINWASHED PEOPLE INTO VOTING HIM PRESIDENT. HOW STUPID HAS AMERICANS BECOME. WAY TO GO ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE. YOU HAVE SOLD YOUR LAST MAGAZINE IN THE UNITED STATES.

Why is the US LABOR DEPT... helping illegal aliens. Why do they have an add campaign telling illegals to call them for assistance.

Why is the idiot Barack trying so hard to allow illegals into the country.

Republican lawmakers are in shock over Labor Department ad campaign that offers government assistance to illegal immigrants who think they are getting shortchanged.

Liberals hate her, but America needs her. The democrats have yet to submit a budget for next year (in violation of the 1974 Budget & Impoundment Act), which will pave the way for their lame duck congress (after the democrats lose the majorities in November) to pass a Value Added (i.e. National Sales) Tax.

This level of fiscal irresponsibility on the part of this administration and the democratic controlled congress has NEVER been seen before in America.

Hopefully, once a sane administration returns to Washington, we can level criminal charges on Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Rangel, Waxman, Boxer, Feinstein, Fiengold, etc. for leading America to the brink of fiscal ruin.

It's time for the federal government to realize it is not above the law. It must be reconciled to the limits placed upon it by the Constitution. Local government serves people the best in most instances. I honestly am tired of everything being jammed down our throats at the federal level! If liberal parts of the country want a more intrusive government that they rely on for many services let them enact that at the state and local level. In my neck of the woods we don't want it, we value hard work and self reliance. We don't want our constitutional rights undermined in any way. People are better served with a smaller federal government and more responsive state and local ones that can focus on the issues that concern those folks rather than handing down a one size fits all edict from Washington. I don't like the liberal mindset and feel it is very dangerous to gamble our freedom by giving more power to government. If we can limit the federal government, local government can serve people much better!

In addition the stimulus if you call it that fundamentally cannot work. All we have done is delay the real depression and insure it is much worse when it comes. All the while this stimulus money is increasing our debt exponentially at our childrens and grandchildrens expense. It is generational theft. We as Americans have to decide it is time to be adults and make the sacrifices and put in the hard work to eradicate the national debt and ensure a future for our children that does not include living in poverty because we couldn't or wouldn't clean house and get our finances in order. We have to cut government, we have to cut taxes to spur growth, we have to stop the wars, and we have to stop running this global military empire we cannot afford. Our children shouldn't suffer because several generations of American refused to sacrifice to put the country back on track. We must stand together and fix it now, especially us young people who are seeing past the false left vs. right paradigm.

OK, so when she refuses to raise taxes in SC, and their educational system, roads, bridges, and law enforcement fall apart, she cannot come crying to DC and ask for money. These people are basically insane when they are against taxes and against government returning state money to states. Services and basic needs cost money...sorry, Haley, but they do. And if you refuse federal funds on principal, that means you must replace that revenue or your state will decline unless you raise taxes. So please tell your citizens just what you will replace federal dollars with? Or do you plan to have everyone just homeschool their kids, rebuild their own streets, and run around with guns like the old West? That will go over well with the conservative feminists like you who want to work full time, and have someone else raise their kids...for free, evidently.

Haley endorses stupidity and rejects brains because as a Republican she doesn't need brains. This dip is nothing more than a dyed in the wool bigoted hate filled moronic Republican so what else is new? Take any Republican and line them up and you see they are all bigots and filled with hate and lacking any true intelligence whatsoever.

If you want to reject badly needed money that can save seriously numbers of people who hold invaluable professions; those folks will remind you of it when the time comes for your citizen's choose to hire you. Please don't anger those teachers, law enforcement, fire fighters, paramedics, ect. You will never appreciate their importance untill those jobs are gone. Go ahead Mrs. Haley; commit political suicide!

Well, there is one candidate that doesn't have to be rolled out slowly by the Republicans, and compared to Sarah Palin, she's got a command of the English language, so no wonder the RGA is courting her so heavily...she won't embarrass them..unless of course she does embarrass them.

Wrong, this is the definition of Secessionism.
The Constitution does NOT explain every single right that the Federal Government and/or the States have to use. There's a SCOTUS ruling (one of the firsts) saying that clearly, if the Constitution had to expose each and every right of the US Governement or the Satets or the Citizens... it'd be 400 pages long!
But, what the Constitution says clearly and specifically that is a right (of the Federal or State government or the Citizen), it is a right that cannot be denied.
ONLY the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT have any say in the matter of IMMIGRATION ISSUES. To say that it's time for everybody look for themselves or whatever, IGNORING THE CONSTITUTION, it's to defend the right to ignore the Constitution and the Country founded with it.
Defend that 'right', go on, defend it!

Has anyone else noticed that all these GOP "Fiscally Conservative" folks running for office are rich!! It's easy for folks in office who are rich to turn down funding aimed for those that are struggling.

The preach the ideas of the Founding Fathers of limited taxes and smaller government which could not be further from the truth. Both Washington and Hamilton taxed nearly everything to pay for the government. I'd bet that Ms. Haley's parents benefited from many Gov't grants and programs that greatly assisted them in building their very successful clothing business.

Ms. Haley proves that hypocrisy is blind to both gender and ethicticity. It is unfortunate that Ms. Haley will soon learn that the bassakward S.C. GOP political machine will employ the same racial tactic on Sen. McCain and turncoat practices recently employed on Sen. Lindsey Graham. (noticed that you haven't seen much of him lately)

Good Luck Ms. Haley and be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. Just ask Prez Obama

She wants to be governor of a welfare state, but is not into taking federal funds. What does she think has been keeping SC afloat? It gets more federal funds than it pays in taxes.

  21. Randall in Torrance, CA - Great - another brainless GOP fool trying to convince Americans that the government is the problem - Haley is an idiot

Here's the GOP score board and the reason Americans should follow their advice:

    1. Iraq War – the longest war in U.S. history started when George Bush attacked the wrong country after 9/11 (on purpose)

    2. Stock market crash – a direct result of Republican strategy and policy to not oversee the banking system and allow reckless and senseless investing and faith in derivatives

    3. BP Oil spill – the direct result of ZERO oversight and regulation of a giant foreign corporation's relentless pursuit of profits at the expense of the entire Gulf coastline, the death of nearly a dozen workers and no plan to stop the leak that will wind up completely destroying one of the world's biggest ecosystems and leaving the U.S. with an non-recoverable ocean dead zone

Nothing a Republican ever says is good for the world or America.

Haley is just another loser, who doesn't give a damn about what's really good for Americans.

God Bless President Obama and the VP and their families. God bless the Democratic Party.

I agree with Nikki Haley the federal government shouldn't spend a penny more in South Carolina and we should immediately downsize the Savannah River Site in Akin South Carolina. The federal government should totally eliminate the wasteful pork barrel spending at the Savannah River Site and save the taxpayers several billion dollars a year. Since Nikki Haley is so immersed in States Rights, the government of South Carolina can also clean up the mess in their own State!
