Washington (CNN) - Nearly half of all Americans have a favorable view of the new health care reform law, according to a new national poll.
A Kaiser Family Foundation survey released Wednesday indicates that 48 percent of the public views the law in a favorable light, up seven points from May, with 41 percent saying they have an unfavorable view. One in 10 questioned said they were unsure.
President Barack Obama signed the legislation into law in April. Supporters celebrate the enactment of the landmark $940 billion measure, but critics insist it will do little to slow spiraling costs and say businesses will be burdened by a slew of new regulations and taxes.
Recent national polls by USA Today/Gallup, AP/GfK, and NBC/Wall Street Journal also indicate a uptick in support or favorable views of health care reform.
The Kaiser survey suggests a partisan divide, with nearly seven in 10 Democrats holding a favorable view of health care reform and an equal amount of Republicans saying they have an unfavorable view of the law. Forty-nine percent of independents questioned say they have a favorable view, with 41 percent holding an unfavorable view.
According to the survey, 35 percent say that a candidate for Congress who voted for health care reform would be more likely to get their vote, with 32 percent saying they would be less likely to vote for such a candidate, and 31 percent saying it doesn't make much of a difference.
The poll also indicates that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that the disagreements between candidates of both political parties over health care reform is due to efforts to gain political advantage, with less than three in 10 saying that it comes from real policy differences.
The Kaiser Family Foundation poll was conducted June 17-22, with 1,066 registered voters questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.
This must be a misprint as according to Rush, Sean, and the republicans, nearly ALL Americans are rejecting it and want nothing whatsoever to do with it.
And according to these great beacons of truth nearly ALL Americans oppose the President on EVERYTHING he is doing and nearly ALL Americans are going to vote EVERY democrat out of office in November and vote for tea party republicans.
The American people finally realize that President Obama and the democrats care about the American people. We will also realize that financial overhaul is needed and environment protection is also needed. We need alternative energy so we can become independent of oil. We are also realizing that the Republicans and the Tea Party have no plan other than cut taxes for big business, no regulations and drill baby drill. The more Tea Party candidates campaign and talk, we realize they have no plan and really have no idea what they are talking about.
I feel sorry for the Gulf Coast, but reported on NPR yesterday, many people (fisherman, those who catch and buy the fish etc.) work on a cash only basis and do not claim their income on their tax returns. They are not paying taxes. How did they find this out: People who are asking for money do not have tax records or records indicating how much they made. NOT submitting a tax form......Americans cheating the system!!!!
Of course it shows that a growing number of Americans have a favorable opinion of the health care law, because the law is... wait for it... a GOOD ONE. Throughout the entire health care debate, poll after poll had indicated that when asked about specific parts of the bill, an overwhelming majority of people favored them. The Rethugs and the disgusting right-wing media, however, were extremely successful in branding the entire bill as a socialist, Marxist, Nazi-esque, grandma-killing, 2700-page government takeover. And now that the law is on the books and Americans are experiencing the benefits firsthand, they're realizing that maaaaaybe those bass-ackwards Rethugs weren't being completely on the level with them.
We received a letter from my husband's employer, stating that after a careful review of benefits, they've decided children can stay on the employee's health plan until the age of 26! How many other employers will be taking credit for this?
The only result I've seen so far is that my health insurance increased by almost 50% last month.
Quite frankly, had the Healthcare Reform Bill gone all the way – it would have been even vastly more popular.
Eventually, all but the most "FOX-programmed" Right Wingers will come to see how they were hoodwinked by the Repugnican scare tactics.
Like Sarah Palin, having a college degree doesn't necassarily mean you have a brain.
Even more people will like it once they have it!
The reality is health care reform – along with the tax cuts that 95% of Americans have received since President Obama took office – are a good thing.
It really drives Republicans nuts, though – like their leader, Rush Limbaugh, the want our president and our country to fail and are doing everything they can to make it so bad for our citizens that they'll somehow develop amnesia and vote Republicans back into power.
Only a fool can't see the clear choice between successful Democratic policies that help our country and the no-idea Party of No and their relentless pursuit of destroying our country.
GOP = Party Before Country
GEE – you mean Republicans actually get sick? They invented senility but just don't know it yet.
What Health Care? High Risk Pools are supposed to begin July 1st. Not one State is ready for this. The cost of this "Obama Health Care" is going to bankrupt America even worse than the mess we are already in. I'm sure those who are already on some "Entitlement Program" could care less.
Time for Saint Sarah to dust off her "Death Panels" screed. Can't let Americans start thinking that the Democrats accomplished something despite the Party of NO.
I don't know where your getting your figures, but everyone I talk with hate the idea of National Health Care. I read the comments every day on my facebook and between the healthcare and the illegals, no one is voting for a democrate. Keep up the good work guys, I can't wait to replace all of you with real men who want to serve the true Americans!
Just imagine how much more popular it would have been with a public option, which would have forced competition. Thanks, Congress, for telling us, basically, "we have ours, so up yours."
The ONLY people who would support this reform bill are those who believe they will pay less for insurance. If they pay less than that means someone is paying MORE. So half the country thinks it is okay to steal money from others so they don't have to pay as much. These are the lazy and unintelligent.
Basically no intelligent person could support such a crazy scheme as forcing someone else to pay for their health care? Let's see if that crazy scheme has ever worked? Social Security? Bankrupt. Medicare? Bankrupt. Medicaid? Bankrupt. Duhhh!! Only an unintelligent fool would support health care reform because, by definition, it will go BANKRUPT along with the country!!
Enjoy the beginning of your "FREE" health care starting in 2014 and will be lucky if the U.S. still exists as a top economy by 2020. You idiots are KILLING this economy with all your requests for more "FREE" stuff!! I wonder how long it will last? Hmmm, just look at Greece....
I am waiting to hear the republicans and the racist teabaggers and Palin to say something about this.
