Washington (CNN) - Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul will briefly leave Kentucky's campaign trail and head to an exclusive, $1,000-per-plate New York City fundraiser on Monday. Steve Forbes, a former GOP presidential candidate, will host the event.
Jesse Benton, spokesman for the Paul campaign, confirmed the event to CNN.
Steve Forbes "was an early supporter of the campaign," Benton said. "He endorsed [Paul] very early on, back in September of '09."
Paul is making a foray into the swanky world of Manhattan fundraising, frequently populated by the wealthy and well-connected. Forbes is the multi-millionaire President and CEO of Forbes Inc. and Editor-in-Chief of its magazine. Such New York fundraisers are commonly attended by Wall Street titans, high elected officials, and wealthy benefactors. It's unclear who will attend the fundraiser for Paul.
Forbes campaigned for the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000 on a platform that included a flat tax, medical savings accounts, Social Security reform and term limits.
