Rand Paul to attend Manhattan fundraiser hosted by Steve Forbes

Washington (CNN) - Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul will briefly leave Kentucky's campaign trail and head to an exclusive, $1,000-per-plate New York City fundraiser on Monday. Steve Forbes, a former GOP presidential candidate, will host the event.

Jesse Benton, spokesman for the Paul campaign, confirmed the event to CNN.

Steve Forbes "was an early supporter of the campaign," Benton said. "He endorsed [Paul] very early on, back in September of '09."

Paul is making a foray into the swanky world of Manhattan fundraising, frequently populated by the wealthy and well-connected. Forbes is the multi-millionaire President and CEO of Forbes Inc. and Editor-in-Chief of its magazine. Such New York fundraisers are commonly attended by Wall Street titans, high elected officials, and wealthy benefactors. It's unclear who will attend the fundraiser for Paul.

Forbes campaigned for the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000 on a platform that included a flat tax, medical savings accounts, Social Security reform and term limits.

A teabagger and a corporatist, a match made in heaven for the ultra rich and corporations looking to shift more of the tax burden to whats left of the middle class.

  2. Not All Docs Play Golf

And it is the Steve Forbes of the world whom Rand Paul would best represent. I am not a Steve Forbes. I am just a primary care physician who thinks Rand Paul is a right wingnut. He certainly does not speak for all doctors, at least those of us who don't play golf.

I'm selling all my Apple products immediately. That which I cannot sell will be trashed. Forbes is walking hand and hand with a man who would get rid of the Civil Rights Acts and allow private business owners to bar African Americans from eating at their restaurants if they so desire.

  5. Former Republican, now an Independent

I fear that Rand Paul is another fanatical "neo-con" republican. His father is a loose cannon who seldom has his facts straight, but is good at stirring up emotion in uninformed people with inaccurate information.

How long does it take an anti-establishment candidate to become an establishment candidate?

I hear Cindy Lauper singing about colors

Please Kentuckians use some sense in November.

Gee, an elitist corporate foray into Wall St. establishment for Rand Paul...who woulda thunk it? Deregulators wanting to privatize or eliminate Social Security, perhaps?

Seniors beware, and please take note.

Rand Paul... you are one of our heroes. The opposition pretends not to
understand your politics. They understand that your views are priceless to free thinking Americans.

We appreciate you. We will pray for your every success!!

Didn't take long did it, for Paul to lose that homey "I'm not an insder, I'm an outsider" horse manure. This whole Tea Party and Republican Party allegations that our Nation has become Socialist is nothing more that their dog and pony trick to attempt to get back into power, where they can R E A L L Y rake in the big bucks.
