Reid and Angle battle over website

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/06/art.sub.com.jpg caption ="Nevada Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle is fighting the takeover of her pre-primary website address by the Nevada Democratic Party."]

(CNN) - A political fistfight over a website claiming to spotlight "the real Sharron Angle" is heating up the campaigns of Nevada's Republican Senate nominee and that of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The Angle campaign released a statement Monday night saying that they sent a "cease and desist" letter to Reid's campaign last Friday, which they say forced the Reid camp to take down a website that falsely represented itself as Angle's campaign website.

After winning the June 8 primary in Nevada, the Republican challenger to Reid took down her pre-primary website and relaunched a new glitzier and slimmer version. Angle's new version offered a trimmed down version of where the candidate stands on the issues, including no longer including her position on the nuclear waste dump facility at Yucca mountain and her calls to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

Her original website was re-launched by the Reid campaign as http://www.therealsharronangle.com. That web address now directs users to http://www.sharronsundergroundbunker.com, which indicates it is paid for by the Nevada Democratic Party.

Angle spokesman Jerry Stacy says that Reid's campaign responded immediately by removing the site.

"Make no mistake, the Reid campaign was forced to take this site down because they were breaking several laws and trying to deceive the voters. You're going to see a lot of dirty tricks like that from Reid's campaign," says Stacy. "This is a clear case of a desperate man doing desperate things to win."

The Reid campaign says they did not move the address of the website because of Angle's cease and desist letter, and in a statement, they say that "Sharron Angle is trying to silence, well, Sharron Angle."

"Sharron has long believed in killing Social Security, eliminating the Departments of Education and Energy and shipping nuclear waste to Nevada," adds spokesman Jon Summers. "We've always heard that Sharron Angle is an unapologetic conservative. It has to be embarrassing for her to have her handlers trying to hide who she really is."

Polls indicate that Reid, who's bidding for a fifth term in the Senate, faces a very difficult road to re-election, thanks in part to the anti-incumbent feeling in the nation and the tough economy, which is hitting Nevada especially hard. Nevada leads the nation with the highest statewide unemployment rate.

What? Going after the opposition by........... pointing out what she really stands for, in her own (now run away from) words?

    Oh, the humanity!

Angle trying to hide from her own past. Would Nevada be so stupid as to elect a woman who wants to prohibit alcohol? Las Vegas would disappear overnight.

Reid and the Speaker both need to go. Their agenda has caused this meltdown along with Obama, Dodd, barney and other Dems with their bill allowing folks who could not afford houses to do so anyway. Obama, Dodd, and frank and other dems put 200,000,000 bucks in their pockets. Corruption in Washington is over, anyone who is elected from this day forward who does not obey the laws will also go.

Let me get this straight – she's upset at Harry Reid because Harry Reid is quoting her public positions verbatim?

I think this is the only time I've ever heard a candidate screech – "Don't tell people my positions – it's bad publicity!"

She is still a nut case, no matter how she re-package herself. Good bye, Angle.

Religious schools don't have unions or Darwin. By targeting public schools, the Angles of this world move one step closer to having burqa-clad subjugate populations (who are well-armed, of course).

Poor baby. Just more proof that the GOPers can't think long-term and that it's all about duping the voters. She saw only the political gain to be obtained by espousing radical right-wing extremist nonsense during the primary and, oopsy, forgot someone might actually hold her accountable for her statements later when she tried to soften and centralize them in a disingenuous attempt to draw independent voters. Reid did nothing wrong....what he did is the equivalent of quoting her past inconsistent statements so she couldn't hide the truth of her ideologue brain-fartery. I'd advise him to just defy the silly letter if he thinks he can afford the defense expense from her frivolous lawsuit. She's scum.

"[D]iscussion affords ordinarily adequate protection against the dissemination of noxious doctrine." –Louis D. Brandeis, writing for the majority in Whitney v. California. All that is necessary to expose Angle's radicalism is to let the public see and hear her own words. Then, if that is what the people of Nevada really want to send to Washington in the form of a junior Senator with no seniority–in the place of a skilled, sophisticated, and powerful majority leader–God help them (and the United States of America).

Desperation? Not on Mr. Reids part, but on Ms. Angles. She's now trying to hide from her outlandish positions and statements. Sorry Sharron, you can run, but you can't hide or make this about Harry Reid, you should be standing up for your positions, not running from them. One tv pundit today said she sounds like a mental patient – that's about right.

Harry Reid's problem is that his own Nevada constituents don't like him very much. According to Pollster.com, Reid has a 51.1% unfavorable-43.9% favorable rating from Nevadans. His job approval numbers are in the 30's...simply abysmal numbers for an incumbent running for re-election.

Since it's highly unlikely that the Nevada electorate will change its mind about Reid (after all, he's been around a long time, and they know him well), he has no choice but to launch relentlessly vicious attacks on Angle in an effort to pull her numbers down...in effect, to drag her down into the muck with him.

This scorched-earth policy is not without risk...Reid may end up pulling his own favorability numbers even lower as his negative campaigning escalates.

But again...Reid has no choice. He has the albatross of the Obama agenda hanging around his neck.

I saw the so far only REAL interview that Angle did and it was almost unreal. She had this fake smile on her face with every question she was asked and most of the answers she tried to blame everything in life on Harry Reid. One thing she DID say was that goverment does NOT create jobs. Well indeed if that is the case then why are the Republicans always foaming at the mouth as the monthly jobs reports come out and can't wait to blame Obama if the results are negative? Nevada may have done better picking the woman who wanted to barter with chickens for healthcare. Hey if I could pay my doctor off in a fried chicken dinner I'm all for it.

The voter should really independently find out what he/she might be voting for! With Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid they know that even if one might disagree with the Senator on some issues, he works hard for the people in Nevada and better chances for them. He is a man with integrity. Mrs. Angel seems to have very strange ideas. She is not even sure enough to come out into the open before ALL voters to explain what she wants to work for. Up till now she only has a lot she is against (talking points). So shy in the public light, she will be a piece of cake for special interest groups to manipulate. I am sure, even though she says she is “conservative” and wants to safe money in big government (on education and the elderly), she will not be shy to increase her personal “budget” with money from special interests.

So her own former website is now defaming her? Has she already changed her mind about all the screwball things she had to say to get Republicans to vote for her in the primary? I smell a 'flip-flopper'.

The GOP establishment would like the world to forget all of the crazy and divisive things the loony Sharron Angle has said over the years, including everything that was on her website during the primary. Sorry. She's crazy, and the people of Nevada deserve to know it.

I'm sorry, which part of this was illegal on Reid's campaign's part? Did they purchase the domain that was no longer owned by Angle? If so, then that's not illegal. If Reid's campaign owns the domain name then they are the legal owners of it and that's a shame that Angle didn't maintain the domain for the $7.00 it costs to renew ownership from GoDaddy.com.... Otherwise, it would be a serious infraction on the part of Reid and his campaign because that would mean there was actual hacking that occurred which would be enough to possibly cause me to change my vote.

The Republican party is leading our nation into 1852,...

Isn't it interesting that teabaggers prefer the Constitution to be interpreted by politicians instead of the SCOTUS?
