Hayworth hits back at McCain in first ad

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/07/art.hayworth.gi.jpg caption =" Republican J.D. Hayworth is striking back at Sen. John McCain's recent negative TV ads."](CNN) – Republican J.D. Hayworth is striking back at Sen. John McCain's recent negative TV ads, launching an ad of his own Wednesday declaring that the longtime Arizona senator "should be ashamed" of his actions.

"John McCain is hiding his record behind false attacks on my husband," says Hayworth's wife Mary in the new ad. "John McCain has sold out the people of Arizona on immigration, bailouts, and tax increases.

"Now John McCain has embraced character assassination to keep his job," she also says. "John McCain should be ashamed. J.D.'s not perfect, but he is a principled conservative."

The new ad – the first Hayworth has run – is the latest sign of the increasingly bitter primary fight for the Republican Senate nomination in Arizona.

The spot from Hayworth, a former congressman, comes two days after McCain launched two television ads that targeted Hayworth's past ties to a dubious company that aired infomercials promising viewers information about "hundreds of billions of dollars in government funding."

The company – National Grants Conferences – has been criticized by the attorneys general of multiple states for deceptive marketing and has an "F" rating from the Southeast Florida and Caribbean Better Business Bureau.

The McCain ads call Hayworth a "lobbyist," "pork barrel spender," and "huckster," and offer another take on Hayworth's statement: "Voters beware."

The Arizona Senate primaries will be held on August 24.

It is past time for McCain to go. He should have hung it up after his debacle of naming Sarah Palin as his running mate.

The Republicans of AZ have a real dilemma as both of these guys are major league @holes and lack both character and a clue.

Mr. Hayworth is right. John, I am a maverick, i guess not, has not only sold the citizens of his state out, sadly he has sold himself out to win an election. Senator McCain is a morally bankrupt man.

Is anybody else getting tired of all this political back stabbing?
Why can't they just come and run on their own merits, and stop all of this mud slinging. Just like a bunch of little kids, I going to tell my daddy, and he's bigger then your daddy. Sad.

Too bad Hayworth has to hide behind his wife. Hayworth is afraid to face the public about his involvment in a deceptive company because he can not defend his actions.

The fact that old "Swiftboat McCain" is up to his old tricks shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone! He will lie faster than anybody to gain votes and he should definitely be ashamed of his actions!

Good bye Amnesty John, Arizona has finally sniffed you out! Time to take a rest and retire, you have earned it! You could do the Nation one last further service and pledge your taxpayer funded pension, you obviously don't need it, do the patriotic thing, pledge it toward balancing the budget. Maybe it will catch on and the rest of the lifers in the House and Senate could do the same, tell them social security is just fine.

Hayworth's wife is hilarious. She says her husband is a principled conservative–what a hoot. Her husband hawks phony government bail out funds, which is totally bogus. Her idea of a principled conservative is obviously one that can bamboozle citizens and get paid big bucks for selling the lies. J.D. Hayworth is just another lying conservative who thinks he is special. No, J.D. Hayworth is a common idiot thug who wants to be Arizona's next senator, stealing the limelight away from John McCain, the other lying idiot from Arizona.

McCain deserves some respect for his service, but that is all. From his choice of sarah pathetic Palin he started going astray and started losing our respect. Now he's lost it! Go Hayworth!

"McCain is slandering my huckster, birther and horse-marriage-idea husband"- Mary

By the way, Mary was paid by Hayworth's pac for consulting she provided. I wonder how much she was paid to be in this commercial? Hayworth is very crafty in spending people's money.

    McCain- Bad for Arizona
    Hayworth- Nightmare for Arizona

    Good luck Arizona.

Hard to tell how this will come out, but if Hayworth wins, so much for any shred of integrity in this Arizona seat. To campaign as a fiscally conservative Republican after being involved in selling dubious information about getting government funding takes the cake. Hayworth should be ashamed of himself and wearing a disguise in public not running for the Senate.
