New Poll: Americans split on Obama

A CNN Poll of Polls compiled and released Tuesday indicates that 47 percent of the public approves of the job Obama's doing in office, with 46 percent disapproving of how the president is handling his duties. According to the CNN Poll of Polls, Obama's approval rating has slowly deteriorated this year, and has been below 50 percent since early March.
This latest edition of the CNN Poll of Polls is an average of the three national surveys conducted so far in July: CBS News (July 9-12), ABC/Washington Post (July 7-11) and the Gallup tracking poll (July 9-11).
So how does Obama's approval rating a year and a half into office compare to his most recent predecessors?
George W. Bush's approval rating stood at 76 percent in July 2002, just ten months after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Bill Clinton was at 42 percent in July, 1994, George H.W. Bush stood at 60 percent in July, 1990, and Ronald Reagan was at 42 percent in July, 1982.
"Obama's approval rating is higher at this point in his presidency than the numbers posted by Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan, both of whom went on to win reelection," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "But Reagan and Clinton both saw their parties lose a significant number of seats in Congress in their first midterm elections, so the fact that Obama's rating is also below 50 percent indicates that 2010 will not be a good year for Democratic candidates."
The CNN Poll of Polls does not have a sampling error.

I don't remember if the party of "no" was in such a disposition as it is now when Clinton had the poor numbers. When Reagan gained in popularity, I bet the Democrats were not the party of "no." That is the scary part if the Democrats lose their seats as is expected. Then the country won't get anything done and we will regress as a country. It is horrible 9+ percent are unemployed; but we have to remember over 90% are employed and signs of a recovery are there. We also have better relations with other countries and Americans need that too.
on one hand you got the republicans telling everyone in ear shot . "you are either with us or you are against us. and any one who stands against us is here by forever black-balled . doors will shut in your face you will be shunned/ per orders handed down and approved by svengali the one and only rush. and it scares the crap out of 9 out of 10 cacuasin males. who won't man up. getting blacklisted is a hell of a thing.
This corrupt, incompetent, inept, union toady is going down, down, down. Yet the dope smokers can't admit it. The haze around their brains won't let anything through.
Geez those are about the percentage of Democrats to Republicans in this country isn't it? Lets face it if Obama gave everyone seeds to grow their own money tree the Republicans would vote it down because they would only think the rich should have the money trees and Tea Nuts would go crazy (or crazier) because Obama would be spreading big govenment. Between these two groups I do not think there are many that have enough brains to come out of a rain storm, proof of which is that they voted for George W twice, but unfortunately we let everyone vote, no matter how misinformed or how ignorant they are.
The guy gets a bad rap, but is basically hamstrung by the obstructionist and treasonous Republican party. They have made a cold and cynical calculation that bad job numbers in November means that they will take over the Congress.
What about the people who are starving? Do they matter to the Republicans? No. The ONLY thing that matters to Republicans is re-gaining control of our government so that they can continue with their failed policies that are proven to hurt hard-working Americans.
I don't know who these polls reach, but the President promised change and he is trying his damnest.
Unfortunately we have the GOBPers who have filibustered everything and anything that comes their way because they don't want to work with the President and for the people of the US.
Why do the rethugs hate those who are not like them (the disappearing middle class, the poor, the sick, the gays/lesbians, etc., etc.)?
Considering all this President has been handed or come up against
in eighteen short months, I think his rating is pretty good. After all he really is not the Mesiah. The fact that after all of this he leads Reagan and Clinton tells me a lot. We need to give this president a chance.
After all who out there could do better? The opposition can not even come up with a viable candidate. They only know how to oppose everything.
Luke warm on health care, not even tepid on wall street reform, but just show me a war and I'm all over it. Terrible disappointment. Wore out shoe leather for this guy. Will not again. Won't vote for a Repub either though, their filibuster on unemployment benefits show them to be not even deserving of human courtesy, much less respect.
People have a very short memory. Some time ago this country was going down a cliff, this guy became elected President and now the bank system is stabilizing, economy is growing, we are turning the corner from the most devastating recession we have endured. We should get down our knees and thank God he put this guy in the path of this country.
This is a clear indication that Obozo will lose to Sarah Palin in 2012. Palin will maintain extremely high approval ratings throughout her 8 years as our greatest president. Nobody will disapprove of Palin in the Palination.
