White House: Stimulus funded 3 million jobs

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/14/art.romer2.gi.jpg caption="Christina Romer has long maintained that the stimulus would save a total of 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010."]New York (CNNMoney.com) - Despite groans from Republicans about high unemployment, President Obama's administration continues to say the stimulus is creating jobs.

In its latest stimulus report released Wednesday, the White House's Council of Economic Advisers said the Recovery Act has already funded about 3 million jobs.

That's in line with earlier predictions from Christina Romer, chairwoman of the council, who has said since the beginning of the Recovery Act that the stimulus would save a total of 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. Different models estimate the number of jobs to be between 2.5 million and 3.6 million, meaning Romer's target may have already been reached.

It IS adding jobs. Maybe not at the rate some people would like, and maybe not for everyone who lost one yet, but it IS creating jobs. I am a professional recruiter, who for over a year had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do. I support permanent full-time hiring, not temporary or contract, so I knew I would know when things were turning because I would be helping my clients add to their permanent roles again. I started getting busier in March, and since then it's just gotten insane. Granted, I don't support small business hiring. My clients are mostly Fortune 100-200, but they are hiring like crazy and I can't emphasize that enough. I agree that there are not enough jobs across enough industries and that there is still work to be done, but to characterize the environment in such a negative light doesn't really paint an accurate picture. Many of my clients are busier now than they were before the recession BECAUSE of the stimulus. Whether they are in the healthcare, healthcare IT, insurance, energy or infrastructure, they are adding jobs and personnel to take full advantage of the various pieces of stimulus available to them and put their orgs in a better position going forward. And for certain types of manufacturing, hiring is again off the charts. Production lines that were slowed or shut down are now ramping up to their previous schedules to get product manufactured and inventory back into distribution. This isn't true of all mfg, obviously. But to the extent someone from a "gone" industry can try to retool themselves, there will be places for them. Companies are already realizing that supply and demand for some of these new niche fields are not in their favor and offering to train people coming from other mfg settings. Keep the faith people. You may not think Obama is working fast enough, but trust me, we'd be in a world of hurt none of us has ever seen if we'd elected the other choice on the ticket. Obama isn't a magician. He can't wave a wand and have every problem here and around the world solved overnight. Considering we're only 19 months in, I'm more than satisfied with where we are versus where we were, or could have been.

The reason this Administration can get away with these nonsensical anouncements about "funding jobs" or "saving jobs" is the liberal media will not challenge them. If you only get your news from CNN or the NYT or the Washington Post, you won't here any questions about the 17 million people who are out of work, probably long term, with no hope in site of any real job creation.

If this were a Republican Administration making these crazy claims they would be laughed out of town by every News outlet in the country.

Nov. 2, can't come fast enough.

Another phony report by a desperate bunch of lying, corrupt union toadys. They were all government jobs so they took from the taxpayers rather than freeing up money for private sector jobs. What a bunch of ienept crooks the Obozo administration is. Lying scum.

So Miss piggy and company sat around and came up with a figure, YAY, goody, we all feel better now.

More unprovable LIES by this administration of jobs created or saved??

Hey Barry, how about those shovel ready jobs that will keep unemployment below 8 percent?

Uh, Uh, UH, Uh see you in November Barry, it is going to be a slaughter.

    July 14, 2010 02:15 pm at 2:15 pm |

What total nonsense. Typical whacked out loony lib Dem strategy that if you repeat a lie often enough, then a lot of stupid people (including the compliant MSM) will buy into it.

"since the beginning of the Recovery Act that the stimulus would save a total of 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010."

Classic. They're not even saying "created or saved" any more... just "saved" – which of course, cannot be measured with any accuracy whatsoever.

This naturally begs the question – what happens to those 3.5 million so-called "saved" jobs when the porkulus funds run out, Barry?

"Funded" 3 million jobs.......even if you believed this bogus number, spending money to created temporary jobs is NOT job creation. How can anyone expect and inexperienced community organizer with NO real business experience to understand? He doesn't and he still doesn't get it and he won't listen to those that know what it takes to get the economy rolling. Tax cuts and private sector jobs.....stupid!

"Despite groans from Republicans about high unemployment, "

Right, because they can complain about it, but don't want to do anything to help those suffering from it. Oh no...they want to cut off bennies and give more tax cuts to the already-wealthy. LITERALLY. They've been saying it for a week now....just as Kyl.

In fact, they want to cut the bennies because people being unemployed and receiving bennies wasn't enough suffering to get enough people angry at Obama and the Dems, so they need to ramp it up. Take the bennies away and, they hope, they'll be able to use some pictures of families living in the streets during the run-up to November 2012.

I would only believe what this administration says if they provided a detailed list of every job they claim, otherwise it's just the dems typical smoke and mirrors crapola.

How many idiots believe this nonsense!! NEVER (I know we are told never to say "Never" but I am saying NEVER) has jobs been measured as "saved or created"!! You look at unemployment numbers. If I "save or create" 4 jobs but we lose 10 jobs then we had an increase in unemployment of 6 jobs. THIS IS NOT HARD MATH!! You CANNOT say "we created 4 jobs" when the end result is we LOST 6 jobs!! Only an idiot would SAY this and only an idiot would BELIEVE this!!

However, let's use this silly logic to make an additional point. Let's assume we actually created 3.5 million jobs (and further assume no jobs were lost which is stupid to think) and spent 900 billion to do it. That means we spent over $250,000 for every job "saved or created"!! Do you see why this doesn't make sense no matter which idiotic way you look at it? Because of the idiots who supported Obama he is pushing us into another economic decline that could very well mimic the Great Depression of the 1930's......

has Boo-Fay made a decent investment since Ty Cobb told him Coke was coming out in cans?

Boo-Fay loves the inheritance tax. One of his specialities is buying up businesses on the cheap where the primary owner has died.

GOT THAT? Boo-Fay is a predator, he clamps down on widows and orphans when they are at their weakest after the patriarch dies.

by the way all his charity is lies. Boo-Fay has generation skipping trusts set up to protect his mega-fortune of ill gotten gains.

MEDIA: either afraid to ask or don't understand the economics.

key: look up Ty Cobb and Coke in cans.

  20. Right behind ya Greece.

So when all THAT taxpayer money runs out, yet another stimulus plan to continue funding the jobs? When does it all end? And unemployment is still hovering just below 10 percent! How long can we keep plunging into debt before we turn into a third-world financial basket-case - with a corresponding plunge in our standard of living?

The stimulus just "kicked the can down the road" with nothing accomplished but dangerously increasing the budget deficit and debt. And they want more! This is the worst and most dishonest administration in our history.

The model that suggests 2.5 to 3.6 million jobs created is the model created by nobummer. In other words, her nose should have grown by 6 feet because that is the biggest line of bull yet.

I don't think that is true and if it is then why is unemployment still almost 10%. It is apparent to me that more jobs were lost compared to more gains in jobs.
