New ad criticizing Reid to air in Nevada

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/16/art.antireidad.0716.americancrossroads.jpg caption ="The conservative organization American Crossroads is out Friday with a new ad criticizing Harry Reid."](CNN) – A new television ad targeting Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is hitting airwaves Friday, arguing that the senior Democrat has done little to reduce his state's sky high unemployment.

Titled "Really Reprise," the 30-second spot comes courtesy of American Crossroads, an independent conservative organization formed earlier this year.

"It's bad enough that Nevada has the highest unemployment in the nation," the ad's narrator says. "And Harry Reid claims to be helping the job situation. Really Harry?"

American Crossroads says it is spending $120,000 on the initial ad buy, and that the spot will air statewide.

It's not the group's first foray into the Nevada race. The group released two ads in June, including one that criticizes Reid for his part in passing last year's federal stimulus plan.

But in a twist, the new ad actually criticizes Reid for failing to secure stimulus funds for Nevada.

"Nevada ranked fiftieth in the money received from Harry's stimulus bill," the narrator says. "That's right; Senate leader Harry Reid has gotten his own state less help than every other state but one."

Reid is locked in a tight battle with Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle for the seat.

A Mason-Dixon poll released Friday shows Reid ahead of Angle, 44 to 37 percent. The poll is the first Mason-Dixon survey in which Reid's lead has been outside the sampling error of plus or minus 4 percent.

UPDATE: In a statement to CNN, the Reid campaign pushed back against the ad's allegations.

"The central criticism of the ad, that Sen. Reid has not done enough to create jobs through the Recovery Act in Nevada's tough economic times, is patently false," the Reid campaign said in a statement.

"Thanks to Sen. Reid's work and Nevada's limitless potential for clean energy technology, we've brought hundreds of millions of Recovery Act dollars to Nevada, and created thousands of jobs."

Sorry Republicans, but Nevada's job loss is your fault, and more the fault of your own Republican governor, Jim Gibbons.

That may be true, but Sharron Angle has specfically said creating jobs wouldn't be her responsibility IF she became senator. She also called all unemployed Americans lazy and entitled. So, this ad isn't gonna help her much.

So sorry, Harry Reid may not be the best, but Sharron Angle is making him look better and better ever single time she opens her yap.

Does it seem to anyone else that getting elected is less about your own qualifications, and more about how much mud you can sling these days than ever before? How about we see some ads talking about how you can help your state, and the country? I have seen nothing from any candidate, regardless of party affiliation...

  13. Which is Really Interesting Since Their Tea Pary Darling Ms. Angel . . .

Said it wasn't a senator's job to help with unemployment and she would have let the MGM project go bankrupt.

    No hypocrisy there.

  15. American Crossroads was Started BY Bush's Main Man, and Fox hero Karl Rove . . .

Why don't you report that, CNN? Seriously, you are supposed to be journalists, not water carriers.
Calling them just another conservative money group doesn't give the full picture that the founders of this organization are former BUSH cronies.

So it's Harry Reid's job to bring jobs to Nevada? Well, then, Nevadans had better re-elect him because Sharron Angle, his opponent, doesn't think that's what a Senator does.

So first they attack Reid for helping pass the stimulus bill, then they attack him because Nevada didn't get enough stimulus money. That's like the joke about the little old ladies in the deli. One says "The food is terrible here," to which the other replies "Yes, and such small portions."

Isn't the Tea Party against the stimulus claiming it's another big government act increasing the deficit? Now they're for it. Hmmm ... would you entrust your government to hypocrites like this? Not.

Seems to me the ad is stating facts and not lying about him like he is in his ads. Look for some really dirty stuff from Reid's campaign as we get closer to election.

Harry Reid is the most partisan, wrong headed politician ever to hold the Senate leadership position. He needs to go. It would be a huge message sent to the idiotic hyper partisan liberals in this country.

Nov. 2, can't come fast enough.

And yet his opponent Sharon Angle has stated that jobs in her state would not be her concern if elected.

  23. Give me an R!

Come on Nevada, Reid stinks. What has he done for Nevada or the nation besides become a rubber stamp for Obama's crazy-bad policies.

Just vote the bum out and see how much better things are in Nevada.

"Thanks to Sen. Reid's work and Nevada's limitless potential for clean energy technology, we've brought hundreds of millions of Recovery Act dollars to Nevada, and created thousands of jobs."

They didn't address the fact that Nevada was 50th in Stimulus funds received, and I'd like to see the proof that the funds created "Thousands of jobs".

So first they hate on him for passing the stimulus and then they hate on him for not misappropriating it? Just go on and make a commercial saying "We Hate Reid So Much We Are Irrational," ok?
