Maine residents abuzz with first family visit
Bar Harbor, Maine (CNN) – President Obama has spent his weekend vacation taking in Maine’s famous coastline, enjoying downtime at a local pool, and eating ice cream.
During their first day, the Obama’s took in some of the state’s attractions - including a hike through Acadia National Park, and a boat ride in the harbor. The first family also capped off the day with a stop for ice cream.
On Saturday, the president and Mrs. Obama took their daughters on a lighthouse tour overlooking Bass Harbor after a morning filled with working out and enjoying a pool.
Though critics argue that Obama should be spending his vacation in the Gulf Coast rather than the Gulf of Maine, local residents have seemed happy to host the first family.
All over the downtown Bar Harbor, locals and tourists can be overheard asking each other if they've had a first family sighting. Shop keepers have signs in their front windows welcoming the president, and one ice cream shop has created a flavor in honor of Obama - the Commander in Chief Chip, a red, white, and blue ice cream with chocolate chips mixed throughout.

I want my President to be well rested and clear headed after the HELL he's been through trying to fix all that ails the nation. Need I remind people who put this country into this position? In November, lets not put the drunk who drove the bus into the ditch, back into the driver's seat!!! Vote Democratic!!!

Oh, for cryin' out loud, can't the man spend a couple of days of quality time with his family without the media and the Republicans jumping all over him? It's not as if he is out of the loop. He, obviously, is continually hooked to his staff, etc. CNN....look at your own survey numbers. Last time I looked, over 76% of those voting said they didn't have a problem with this trip. Get over it, folks.

I'm so glad we've got a President who's got the good sense to relax and get out of stress regularly. People who can't relax and stay constantly maxed out with adrenalin make poor decisions and burn out sooner.
I am glad he is getting some time off. He is on duty 24/7 for 4 years if he can get a weekend off and still be available for emergencies why not. I challenge anyone who thinks he shouldn't to try that work schedule sometime.

Weekend vacation?!! The world is in tumoil. We have not conquered world peace, world hungry, the energy crisis, global warming, population control, racism, we still have oil in the Gulf, possible hurricanes...etc. and the Obamas are on a two day vacation? What's wrong this President? Clearly his inexperience is showing.
Why is this president treated like he is not a human being. Everyone deserves down time and Obama would be the one to know when that time is needed. He is not a machine or hired help that has to have permission to go on vacation. What more can he do to stop the oil leak except to get in the ocean and stop the leak himself, and I am sure there are those that feel he should do that. The things that folks ask and or criticize of this president is the most hateful and mean spirited I have ever witness and mostly coming from those that sit in church with their families every Sunday morning.
Why not donate some time and money to the troubled Gulf. If this was Bush, CNN would be running tickers galore about his lack of caring. Oh well, at least we know where CNN's loyalty lays....

Isn'rt interesting that people will complain about the president takign the weekend off or playing golf, yet they get upset if they do';t get off early the day before a holiday.
His day is not 9-5 or his week only 40 hours. and if you look at the amount of time he has taken off in his first 17 months by compared to Mr Bush, you will find Mr Obama is a workaholic by comparrison.
And CNN- stop referring to a weekend away as a vacation.
Maybe CNN should have all its so-called credible journalists, talking- heads and pollsters take a vacation from the overall abysmal ratings they're gifting to the network.
I think it's fantastic that they are able to take a vacation, even tho the President is never really "on vacation." I don't think that the Bush's ever went to New Orleans on vacation, even tho not all of it was damaged by Katrina and everyone was encouraged to visit there as well.
I just often wonder what shape this country would be in if McCain, who didn't know how many homes he had, and Sarah Palin, who didn't know what magazines/papers she read and quit her job as Governor had been elected. Heaven help us. As I recall McCain stopped his campaigning to rush to DC to help Bush with economy and didn't say a word until 45 minutes into the meeting. Some help he was...............
