Kasich launches first ad in Ohio gubernatorial race
(CNN) – Ohio gubernatorial candidate John Kasich is going on the defensive in his first campaign ad, hitting back against Democratic efforts to portray him as a former Wall Street big wig.
"Ohio has lost 400,000 jobs under Ted Strickland. He can't campaign on his record, so he and his friends try to tear me down," says the Republican in the new spot released Saturday. "Here's the truth. I didn't run Lehman Brothers. I was one of 700 managing directors. I worked in a two-man office in Columbus. I have a record of balancing budgets, cutting taxes, and creating jobs."
Strickland, the incumbent Democratic governor, has repeatedly portrayed Kasich as a creature of Wall Street because of his ties to the now-defunct investment banking house. Kasich, a former U.S. congressman, worked for Lehman from 2001 until its collapse in 2008.
Responding to Kasich's ad, Strickland spokeswoman Lis Smith said the Ohio Republican is "implausibly trying to downplay his role as a managing director at failed Wall Street investment firm Lehman Brothers after years of bragging about his work on Wall Street."
While this is Kasich's first ad of the campaign, the Republican Governors Association has already been airing spots taking aim at Strickland's record on the economy.
A recent Quinnipiac University survey showed Strickland holds a 7-point lead but is unable to draw support from more than 50 percent of the electorate.

When Lehman Brothers tanked (Kasich was a managing director) Ohio people lost $450 million in pension funds.
Kasich is still wealthy, however.
Mr. Kasich will NOT be getting my vote because of his extreme right-wing fiscal conservative Ideology. I do not like the idea of folks like him determining whats best for me. Additional he has appeared Hannity, O'Reilly, FoxNews and apparrently has their endorsement. Nope, my vote will be Anybody BUT Kasich. End of story.

I fail to see why working for wall street disqualifies him for govenor. Our current govenor has done a poor job and can't even say how he will balance our budget. So lets see we could either vote for
A. The incumbent who has overseen the continued loss of jobs in our state; failed to advance a solution to the $8B budget gap; covered up drug deals that are occuring at his residence; has no accomplishments what so ever during his first term in office; and has no record of accomplishment in private enterprise.

B. A man who served his constituents well in congress and provided the blueprint of balancing the budget during his time in washington, left office at the peak of his power to try his hand at private enterprise amd succeeded (much to the angst of the socialist on this board).

Typical Democrat selective amnesia. It wasn't the GOP that lost over 400,000 jobs in Ohio, it was Strickland and Strickland alone. Our problems are the direct result of failed Democrat policies. You should really do your homework before you post idiotic drivel.

You need to get a clue. Anybody who votes for Strickland needs to never set foot in a polling place ever again. The man lost 400,000 jobs on his watch. Enough said.

The man worked for one of the main corporations who got us into the mess we are in today. The very idea of any Republican running on the theory of bad economy and blaming the Dems for it are just crazy. But that is exactly what all of them are going to do. They are going with their favorite phrase of "where are the jobs" in the hopes of convincing the people that all of it is the Dems fault. It isn't!! Quinnipiac poll only has Strickland up five. All published polls show Strickland in the low 40's even the (few) polls that have him ahead. Quinnipiac polled registered voters not likely voters. PPP a well regarded Democratic polling firm had Kasich up by two, even though he is largely unknown. If people actually thought Strickland was doing a good job he'd be up by double digits. But he's not. Wonder why? Must be George Bush's fault.....
