Vitter sorry for Maddow comment

(CNN) – Republican Sen. David Vitter apologized to MSNBC host Rachel Maddow Friday after jesting on a radio program that she only looked like a woman “a long time ago.”
“Regarding my remark during a radio conversation today, I apologize,” Vitter wrote in a letter to Maddow. “The hosts made their comment and I obviously chimed in. While we do not usually agree on the issues, I do not think you deserved that comment.”
Vitter’s comments came during an appearance on Rush Radio 99.5 in New Orleans Friday morning, during which the radio hosts joked about a high school photo of Maddow with long blond hair. The MSNBC host currently has short brown hair.
“Must have been a long time ago,” Vitter joked when the hosts said the photo portrays Maddow as “looking like a woman.”
Maddow has not responded to the comments.
Vitter is currently in a primary battle against former Louisiana Supreme Court justice Chet Traylor. Traylor told CNN Monday that while he had been considering a run since last summer; it wasn't until the last two weeks that he took another look at the race, after being flooded with calls urging him to run.
Should Vitter win that race, he will face Democratic Rep. Charlie Melancon in the general election. Despite a tumultuous first term, Vitter's favorability rating has remained high and Melancon has as yet struggled to gain serious footing.

Why is this a big deal? Someone is not allowed to joke about a the physical appearance of a news commentator? What about all the jokes about Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh? Didn't Al Franken make repeated comments on Rush being a big fat idiot? By the way, I watched Maddow and Barney Frank openly mocking the beliefs of evangelical Christians last year. Talk about bigots.

Notice how he tries to portray himself as a victim, caught up in the nastiness of other people, instead of just admitting he doesn't like Rachel Maddow and thought it was funny to make a veiled joke about her sexual orientation.

David Vitter was such a frequent user of of prostitutes' services that they had his phone number on speed dial (see Washington Post article dated 7/10/07). These prostitutes were paid between $275.00 and $300.00 per sexual encounter.

Democrats and liberals should learn to get over themselves. Have you even listened to Rachel for all the names she calls people and I have yet to hear her apologize. When do we get apologies from democrats like Pelosi for calling Americans who attend tea party rallies astroturf and terrorists? I don't remember an apology from the likesof Olbermann when he said Hillary should be taken into a room where only he comes out standing so as to imply they should beat some sense into her because she wouldn't fold over and cave for Obama to get more of a free ride than he did? I don't remember an apology coming from Clyburn when he called Bill Clinton a racist or when Jesse Jackson Jr. called Hillary a racist for not crying for blacks? When those apologies come then I will get upset over Vitter and his apology, but until then – forget it!
Rachel Maddow earned her undergrad degree in public policy from Stanford, is a Rhodes Scholar and earned her PhD in politics from Oxford University.

Point 1: The Tea Party referenced themselves as "Teabaggers" without knowing what the term meant, so enough with the Vitter sympathizing. Maddow just called them out on it. Point 2: Maddow's appearance or sexual orientation has nothing to do with her abilities in her profession. She is a talented woman who tells it like it is and has openly disagreed with Obama as well. Vitter needs to keep his mouth closed because the visual of him with hookers and a diaper is not very politically appetizing. I mean, I can't imagine what this guy thinks about at the round table when sound decisions are supposed to be made. "Wow, she looks like a dude." Hey dude, let's make a diaper out of that policy paper and visit a few hookers." Ugh.

This story was about a politician's rude comment about a woman who is the host of a TV show.
Yet there are many posts on this blog deriding the woman who was the target of the rude comment.
Why can't we stick to the subject of the story and not jump into our own personal biases that are totally unrelated to the story?
I love Rachel Maddow even though I generally (not always) vote republican! She's articulate and beautiful as well. Vitter is an idiot in soooooo many ways, and is an embarrassment to me as a fellow rebublican.
Rachel is highly intelligent, fair, witty, articulate, and open minded. Unfortunately, the same things cannot be said about Vitter, and he knows it.......he's intimidated by women such as Ms. Maddow, so in typical neanderthal, teenage boy mentality he comments on her looks. Wow. How unique. How mature. Not surprised though given the man has the intellectual depth of a kiddie pool.
