Poll: D.C. gives Obama highest marks, Wyoming lowest

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/19/art.getty.obama.seal.jpg caption="President Obama enjoys a high approval rating in the District of Columbia, but is not doing as well in Wyoming."]Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama is getting rave reviews in the District of Colombia and Hawaii, but he's not playing as well in Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and West Virginia, according to newly released national poll numbers.

A Gallup survey released Monday indicates that during the first half of 2010, 85 percent of residents in the District of Columbia approved of the job Obama was doing as president, with 68 percent of Hawaiians giving him a thumbs up.

Democrats overwhelmingly dominate in Washington D.C. and they also greatly outnumber Republicans in Hawaii, the state where Obama spent much of his childhood and teenaged years.

Besides Illinois, where Obama lived for decades before moving to the nation's capital, states from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions round out the top ten for Obama's popularity.

According to the poll, only 29 percent of Wyoming residents approve of how the president's handling his duties in the White House, followed by Utah, Idaho and West Virginia at 34 percent.

These survey's results are based on aggregated data from Gallup Daily tracking polls conducted January through June of this year, with more than 90,000 adults questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus one percentage point.

Let me see if I understand: Most in DC rely on the government because they can't/won't work and they support Obama. Wyoming filled with hard-working individuals who rely on themselves to succeed rather than be lazy and they do not support Obama. Well, this is quite simple: If you are lazy and must rely on someone else (i.e. the government) then you support the Socialist government we now have. If you are a hard-working individual who only needs their own will and determination to succeed then you know Obama is killing this country.

    I can see clearly now...........

No big wonder why DC is charmed by Nobama – they are mostly minorities (black) in the big government world! Not so many in Wyoming though, smart people.

What's really interesting is that approval exceeds disapproval in 30 out of the 50 states (not counting Washington DC), and that includes Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia (see page 2 of the article on Gallup's website). Sure it's early, but if re-election were held today, Obama would win in a landslide, again.

Gee, most of the posts are liars from the right bearing false witness. It never ceases to amaze me that those who claim the moral high ground are also the biggest liars on the planet. What gives? Why do conservative, so-called Christians so consistently violate the 9th Commandment?

DC has among the highest rates of unemployment now and chronically, they have high rates of crime, drug use, welfare reception and HIV....Wyoming has a low crime rate, low unemployment, better air quality, better roads and lower taxes.....This poll highlights that John Edwards calls the "2 americas"...in the rural areas self sufficiency, fiscal responsibility, hard work and honesty are valued. In the inner cities this nation is a terrible mess.

Rickster says, "Democrats are undoubtedly the dumbest creatures ever to roam the earth. How could anyone, in good faith, say that Obama is doing a good job? He has failed at EVERYTHING."

Failed at what? Pulling our country back from the brink of a Great Depression caused by failed Republican economic policies?

Cite some examples before your start parroting Limbaugh and all the other liars on the right who are trying to take advantage of simpletons like you.

This poll doesn't really mean anything without comparisons. What are the numbers for the GOBPbaggers? They must be getting towards single digits given their worthless "ideas" and inability to do anything but support their corporate masters.

Actually many whites had to vote for Obama for him to become elected. It shows most of them don't vote based on race. Over 90% of blacks voted for Obama...shows you something.

If you look at the state-by-state poll results, and a 1860 map of the US, you see something interesting. Of the states that were in the US in 1860, among those that were also in the top 10 in terms of support for Obama in this poll, you see 7 states in the top 10 were free states, and only 2 (MD and DE) were slave states. In terms of the 10 states that gave Obama the lowest ranking, only 1 was a free state (NH), but 5 were slave states.

Nice try dufus, he said it. And he also said about his "muslim faith."
Another apologist for the worst president this country has ever had.
BTW, he's your president not mine, I didn't vote for him. I'm a third generation American, family came here legally; my family never owned slaves and I don't owe anybody reparations. Put that in your bong and puff on it.

Intelligent people DON'T CARE about polls

    They are meaningless

Intelligent people don't need to call other people names when they post a comment, name calling indicates ignorance

Intelligent people use facts when making decisions, and comments

Intelligent people voted for and greatly support the best president this country has possibly EVER seen, Barack Obama

Go figure, Cheneys state, but that is not surprising since there are only 25 people living in Wyoming, and half of them is the Cheney family...

I think its clear that the conservatives think they are the majority like the teabaggers. Thats because they are the loudest right now. Understandably because things arent going their way. The liberals are sitting back watching the madness (although they need to be more vocal). Polls like this just remind us in a way that there is still an overwhelmingly liberal movement going on. The hippies are back! No applause please...we're modest.

    Conservative= Stay the same.
Progressive= Progressive. Look it up. The world is leaving us in the dust. Time to catch up! I think most intelligent Americans understand this. This poll is evidence. Just look at Utah...so progressive in a global mindset sort of way...right?

Did you all forget most foreigners in our country who vote could care less about Race, Free States, Slave States in 1860, as a matter of fact, come to think of it most college kids, those in their 30's voting don't know about 1860 maps, slave states, free states and could care less to learn about it.

Makes sense, a state where people think for themselves, take personal responsibility compared to a total basket case with high crime, dominated by unions and elitists. This corrupt, inept, incompetent union toady should be at the bottorm of every poll and is where people can think for themselves without the SEIU (and its wholly owned subsidiaries, AARP, and ACORN) don't tell them what to think and do. Obamatrons.
