DSCC responds to Manchin's announcement
(CNN) - Sen. Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Chairman, issued the following statement Tuesday, in reaction to West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin's announcement that he will run for the late Sen. Robert Byrd's Senate seat.

“No one will ever be able to fill Robert Byrd’s shoes as his irreplaceable leadership will be missed in Congress and in West Virginia. But Joe Manchin is someone who everyday makes West Virginians proud. Since he has been governor, hundreds of companies have located or expanded in West Virginia, with billions of dollars in new business investment. Under Manchin’s leadership, West Virginia has been praised for fiscal conservatism, all while he has cut taxes for West Virginia business and families. Joe Manchin has a record of job-creation and fiscal responsibility and will continue to be a strong independent voice for West Virginia in the U.S. Senate.”

I am sure this guy will be as unsuccessful as Byrd was in improving the plight of West Virginia's people, that is other than the special interest groups and his own bank account. How can anyone praise Byrd when West Virginia's position as the lowest personal income remains unchanged after 20+years in office. It escapes me how the people of West Virginia can continue to believe that these people are there to help.
Seems like a perfect fit. Manchin is a little old...but maybe can serve at least a couple terms.

Never heard of the guy, which probably means he's either ethical or clever enough to stay out of the news. Give him a chance.
He still has to run against the opposition. That might be more difficult than expected.

Just love seeing the GOP get their knickers in a wad over this. Did they scream when Palin quit her job to do nothing but line her pocket books? The hypocrisy in the GOP is alive and thriving!
We realize that the State Code had to be modified for a situation like this (over 2 1/2 years left in Sen. Byrd's term), but if Joe Manchin thinks he can will get votes from WV public employees, he better think again. We have been trashed by him and have not had any pay raises for 5 years.
Sorry Joe, but you are not going to get my vote!!

His opposition has two last names - Moore-Capito - her daddy was a horrible governor of WV, but she's trying to weezle her way into the big bucks of the NRA, Wall Street, Big Business, etc., just like her daddy.
They are modifying the laws of WV to let Moore-Capito run for her current seat AND the senate.
Daddy's money - big banks, NRA, etc.
It seems as if governors egos aren't satisfied with the state's highest position. They are all hungry for more.
The hallowed governor in my state exemplifies this.
As soon as he was sworn, Piyush 'Bobby' Jindal, former Hindu, now of Christendom, started campaigning for Presidency.
The absentee 'public servant' governor went gallivanting around the country 'fund raising' for his future endeavor instead of governing the state of LA.
Of course now you couldn't dynamite him form the hallowed, oily shored of his beloved LA.
He might miss a photo op and a chance to showcase for the cameras.
He is a terrible governor. He cant even budget a small state like LA-
Heaven forbid if the whole country was at his mercy.
