Sherrod: White House worried about Glenn Beck

(CNN) - Shirley Sherrod, a former USDA employee who resigned after a controversial video surfaced, told CNN Tuesday that members of the Obama administration "harassed" her and demanded she resign her post immediately.

In an interview with CNN, Sherrod said she repeatedly fielded calls on Monday during a long car ride, during which officials insisted that she pull over to the side of the road and quit her post.

"They asked me to resign, and, in fact, they harassed me as I was driving back to the state office from West Point, Georgia yesterday," Sherrod told CNN. "I had at least three calls telling me the White House wanted me to resign…and the last one asked me to pull over to the side of the road and do it."

Update, 4:36 p.m.: A White House official tells CNN's Suzanne Malveaux the White House was not involved in pressuring for a resignation: "The White House did not pressure her or USDA over the resignation. It was the Secretary’s decision, as he has said.”

Sherrod said the final call came from Cheryl Cook, an undersecretary at the Department of Agriculture. Sherrod said White House officials wanted her to quit immediately because the controversy was "going to be on Glenn Beck tonight."

Asking her to resign is the first thing this administration has done that is good common sense.

Obama has a weapon Bush did not, the lib lib.

Maybe it is time to give Al Queda a naste of their own medicine.

Obama could tell white guilt lib lib that the only way to pay for their white cracker sins woulde be to strap on the c4. They all would do it in a second.

Liba-guilt-acide O'bombers, he's got millions of Dem sheep.

Welcome to the dictarorship in the U.S.! This is Chicago style politics that also resembles the Nazi establishment! Either these liberals need to be removed by force or hopefully by a reasonable and peaceful approach!

I'm sorry Shirley Sherrod, but I saw the video and I was absolutely disgusted. I am a Democrat, and to overlook your blatently racist comments in the video would be nothing more than justify your act.

To stated you didn't help someone because he was white. That is purely racist and you have absolutely no business working for any part of the Government.

Racism is sickening, revolting and must be addressed no matter where it comes from. I don't care who you are, it is never justified.

If you listen to the whole video , you will see that this is not what the GOP run Fox News made it out to be, the WH should have not been so quick on the draw on this one! This woman was using past experience as a teaching moment on what not to do in handling race issues!
I feel she got a raw deal and they need to issue an apology to her and reinstate her position.

The only thing the White House should be concerned about, is whether Glenn's handlers remember to give him his medication.

It seems that they should have accorded Ms. Sherrod an inquiry into the facts, but maybe it's only to be expected that the barrage of accusations of racism coming from racists would stampede this Administration into doing something racist.

Who the hell is scared of Beck? He is a lunatic that is bound to destroy everything that Martin Luther King, Jr. lived and preeched! Every positive thing created by the White House has been disparaged by Glenn Beck. If the citizens of this country try hard enough( which won't be very hard); then, we can discount everyone of his rants.

Since CNN amended its story about this lady, let me say we will only hear about her if there is something positive to report from now on.

Always a victim. It never fails. She said it and I don't care what the woman she "supposedly" helped says now. The racist says in the video that she did just enough to claim she was helping.

She deserves to be fired for being racist! CNN, ABC, MSNBC will spin this like good little "journa-lists" and have you idiots believing this racist wasn't the one speaking.

Yeah, I am sure that the ObamaAadministration is concerned what the Pied Piper of Pinheads is thinking or doing. If it does not involve a new book deal or saying something that the lemmings want him to say for money, he won't touch it (or probably understand it for that matter).

Ms. Sherrod still did not honor the practice of her office period. If you take a professional oath of any kind, one has to do her job as described and not let her personal racists feelings get in the way. It is about doing what is right v. wrong. Obama was right in firing her, we will never move forward as long as we tolerate behaviors like this no matter what color the people are involved. NAACP will eventually be phased out in years to come and they know it! Much like the labor unions...we have laws in place now that weren't there during their inception years.

Unfortunately, this is the reality of the pulse of the black community in the south. My black friends I have known for years have actually admitted that they are taught to be angry and not trust whites in their local churches. They are also told white people "owe" them.

These churches are non-profits that receive government money, that have also passed out sample ballots for local elections so as their paritioners are able to make sure they vote for "their" people. What happened to the division between church and state? This is just wrong.

There is a double standard being practiced by each ethnic group and will only be overcomed with stringent rules followed by everyone. Why have an ACLU etc? Why not pump all the money that goes into affirmative action and all these extra urban programs that are really just handouts and put ALL the money in to education and make it more affordable to ALL AMERICANS(no-nons)...then everyone can apply to any level of job position based on their MERIT and NOT their COLOR/ETHNICITY ETC!. A merit-based system will only work if the programs available are targeted to fit the protected classes. Education across the board is the answer NOT QUOTAS!

Ok, I am off my soap box,

I may not agree with how USDA handled this case BUT had it been reversed it would have been handled exactly the same...due to the uncalled for racism in this country everyone is on pins and needles. so stupid...I think it was wise for the NAACP to get involved for the same reason, had it been reversed & nothing happened they would have been right on top of it.....

Sherrod should not have been asked to resign. The incident in which she said she did not do everything to help the white farmer happened 24 years ago, when she was working in a different job (a nonprofit, before she joined the USDA). According to her, the white farmer was making a nuisance of himself, trying to show that he was superior to her. Can people blame her for not reacting well when the farmer was acting like a jerk even though he was asking for help? This does not justify what she did, but what she did was not so egregious, considering the farmer's attitude, that we cannot forgive her after 24 years. If this incident just happened, then she should resign. But not after 24 years. The statute of limitation should have kicked in years ago.

Why do we give these yahoos so much power? What ever happened to "get over it already".
Now all of a sudden the right wing fringe is trying to make the NBPP equate to the KKK of yester-year. GOP is great at spreading fear and creating fake controversies so that FOX and CNN can report them. They are covering their own racisim and shame on the WH for giving in. I say keep it up Glenn Beck and hopefully one day somebody in the white house would grow a pair and stand up to this foolishness.

Maybe she should sue him for slander with the way it was portrayed. If it wasn't telling the whole story, it could appear incorrect and tarnish her character.

She is a racist..plain and simple and we should not tolerate racism in any form...............Just because she is black, does NOT make it ok, if she was white saying those things she would have been long gone, end of story...........no sympathy for this racist.
