Ben Nelson goes against his party–again

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/22/art.bennelson.0715u.gi.jpg caption ="Ben Nelson bucked his own party again this week, voting against a bill to extend unemployment benefits."] Washington (CNN) - Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson is not afraid to buck his party when it comes to fiscal issues.

The Nebraskan did it again this week, voting against a bill extending unemployment insurance benefits to millions of Americans. The bill passed Wednesday with the help of a couple of Repubican votes. It now goes to the House where it is expected to pass.

The extension, which lapsed in June, failed in an earlier Senate vote after a Republican filibuster.

In this week's votes, Nelson insisted that Democrats find a way to pay for the extension of benefits. He said there are some stimulus funds that could be used - an idea that Republicans back.

"I'm comfortable with my own decision on this," he said. "I made it clear what I think needs to be done." Nelson told CNN.

unused stimulus money is already allocated to the project's in progress.
Does this stupid republicans wanted to stop a project in the middle, because they wanted to use this money to offset unemployment fund.
    Give me a break.
and unemployment money is insurance money not spending.

Is Ben Nelson one of those wealthy citizens who are looking forward to having his taxes reduced again ala G.Bushs generous gift? If there is a way to fight this movement, I know about 20 million people that would be happy to have a part in preventing it. I guess we can at least help by being VERY careful for whom we vote. BEN NELSON>>>>>ben nelson......no, I won't forget that name, ever.

Since Mr. Nelson could not find it in his heart to help millions of unemployed Americans including Nebraskans, he clearly does not deserve the support of the American people when it is time for reelection. Go ahead and go the republican side, they need you more than we do!

All you socialist and liberals need to wake up and seethat thereris finally a Senator who thinks about his constiuency 1st and not his party. That is what they are all supposed to do. If the party is wrong and the bill is wrong, then they should vote against it regardless of their party affiliation. Senator Nelson is to be commended. He appears to be one of the few common sense people in the Senate either Rep or Dem. As far as those who say umemployment shoudl be funded what about half of the stimulus that still sits there??? Aslo withthe new extension bu the states 26 weeks that is 125 weeks. How much more do we want to give people. There are plenty of jobs. I work at ap lace that constatnly has people seking aid for utilities and rent. They say it is easier to get unemployment than go to work for less thanwhat they made. That is laziness and the people in this country need to realize they are not entitled to all the things the liberal socialist administration is doing. Wnat to end up like Greece. Just keep it going. It wont be long before we see riots int he streets... America has become lazy and waiting for handouts.

"Democratic Senator Ben Nelso is not afraid to buck his party when it comes to fiscal issues..." or health care, or reproductive rights, or anything, for that matter.

How about cutting the Defense budget. Start with defunding the two obscene wars Bush started.

Here's a novel thought. Instead of extending unemployment why not offer those who are unemployed a job for the "unemploymen" money they will get. There are a milion things in the community they live in that could be done by them. In this way they are at least being productive. The ACLU would probably say that it is ubconstitutional to do this.

This is laughable. Nelson's just desparate to hold onto his seat at any cost. He wasn't worried about fiscal responsibility when he sold his country out for his vote on the Healthcare bill fiasco. What a hypocrite. He needs to go.

For all of you that yap about paying for something before you do it; since you have no problem balancing the budget on the backs of the unemployed, I am sure you will line up to support bringing our troops home immediately from the two un-funded wars we have going on now.

This unemployment bill is just a drop in the bucket compared to those wars and you would have to be an absolute hypocrite to be for paying for the unemployment bill and not the wars.

Thank you in advance for your assistance, get with your representatives and get our troops home.

Sen. Ben Nelson is not a democrat or a blue dog but instead a DINO. He has consistently voted in a manner that makes him Warren Buffet's puppet. In a Senate climate where 60 votes are necessary to pass anything or move a presidential nomination, unfortunately his vote is like a hammer, it counts when it strikes. But like many have already said, he's from Nebraska and Democrats are like scarecrows in the field – you see them once in a while. Marlene in Mich

@ddt – the fact is most of the unemployed are Caucasian-Americans . Most of the employed are Caucasian-Americans , and only because Caucasian-Americans are the majority.

Guess what Ben, the American people paid into the federal government for those benefits. Just where did the money go? I am so tired of this DINO. He needs to stop calling himself a democrat and be done with it.
