Limbaugh says Fox News 'caved' in Sherrod coverage

Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday.

Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday.

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh said Thursday on his radio show that Fox News and at least one of its anchors "caved" in its coverage of Shirley Sherrod, the former USDA employee who was fired in haste on Monday after an edited clip of her was posted on a conservative website.

"I have to go after it … because even Fox caved on this," Limbaugh said. "Even Shep Smith. Even poor old Shep Smith went down there and said that everybody's wrong on this, that [BigGovernment.com founder Andrew] Breitbart is wrong and so forth. There's only a handful of us that have the guts to put this story straight. If we don't hammer back nobody will."

Limbaugh dismissed the story, saying he was bored by it.

"It's nothing more than the left playing the race card, the NAACP has thrown down the gauntlet because the big government argument has failed," Limbaugh said. "They are keeping alive the divisions in this country and I hate taking the bait, I hate playing along with it, I simply despise the whole thing."

"We've got a bunch of cowards in the conservative media inside the beltway which will not deal with this honestly," Limbaugh added.

Limbaugh took aim at Fox News anchor Shepard Smith because on Wednesday, Smith sharply criticized Breitbart's website as well as his network's own reporting on the story.

"The video taken completely out of context it ran all over…and on television including this network," Smith said Wednesday on his show. "We on Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the story in any way for many reasons. Among them: We didn't know who shot it, we didn't know when it was shot, we didn't know the context of the statement, and because the history of the videos on the site where it was posted. In short-we did not and do not trust the source."

On Monday, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly was the first cable news anchor to play part of the edited clip, saying afterward "That [Sherrod's comment] is simply unacceptable and Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately."

One hour later, Sean Hannity played the clip at the top of his show and announced Sherrod's resignation.

On Wednesday, O'Reilly apologized for his statements saying: "I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for not doing my homework, for not putting her remarks into the proper context."

Does anyone really listen to this vomit-spewing windbag? If he was all I had for guidance I'd slice my wrists. God help us if anyone cares what "Limbarf" has to say.

This man is a great example of anyone being able to spew on and on unchallenged in their positions. Does he ever have any reliable and knowledgeable sources he could debate the issues with? Truly debate them and not just yelling and name-calling when you start to loose your position. What has convinced him that he is all knowing and is always correct? I am all for free speech so keep talking but of the shows that I’ve listened to, it is just full of his rants and his loyal listeners calling to praise him. How could he ever be wrong?

Too funny!!! Rush is calling this the left baiting the right?

The right are the ones that generated this entire story.

No one would have heard of her if not for the conservative blogger. O'Reilly at least had the guts to admit the whole thing was wrong.

But Rush and nutty Coulter are claiming this was a trap? Good Lord.

I can't believe people are so stupid that they are still falling for this act from Limbaugh. When will they learn its all an act. When will the sponsors learn that most people just want to hear the next outrageous thing he has to say and have no intentions of buying their products. It may sound like a big audience but most of them are boycotting the products. Have all of you gone crazy. Do the math.

Isn't Rush like Breitbart's dad or something? Taught him the secrets of conservatism and forbidden love and all.

PREDICTION: Sheppard Smith will soon leave FOX News. If Boos Limbaugh doesn't like you, then you are Finished. They'll soon refer the Sheppard Smith as a liberal, gay, socialist and bash him wherever he goes.

Breitbart lies and destroys the lives of innocent Americans. Fox News does likewise. Rush Limbaugh does likewise.

When is enough enough? If these folks are criminally libel, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extend to of the law.

If not, then it's pretty simple to block their broadcasts from your televisions, and their websites from your browser. Be sure to let their sponsors know. Vote with your wallets

    Why do they hate America?

Well of course Limbaugh's still running his mouth off, when the press are too busy demanding an apology from the white house to ask for one from Bretbart who libelled sherrod in the first place. I hope she sues him.

    wow, this man is nuts.

and how I read it is Fox News saw it was unreliable and not worth showing, yet allowed their editorial shows to do so. So really they still got to show it, villianize an innocent woman while claiming falsely to have journalistic integrity. classy.

Can anybody decipher Rush's nonsense here? He says he has to "go after" the story but that he's bored by it, then he says nobody's dealing with it honestly but he doesn't say what that means.

He's lost the ability to even form coherent statements–much like the rest of the right-wing of America.

Rush has spoken and all good wingnuts will now fall back in line. Rush is bored by the story because the hate they tried to spew came right back in the faces of these racist right wing fanatics.

At least Sheppard Smith at Fox News has enough sense not to trust information provided by Andrew Breitbart. He's the only one at Cluster Fox who has any sense of integrity. As for Rush Limpbaugh, he is nothing but a race baiting racist scumbag. Again, a typical Rush lowlife comment on a sensitive racial subject. Suprised he didn't make another bone in noise comment...
