Limbaugh says Fox News 'caved' in Sherrod coverage

Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday.

Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday.

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh said Thursday on his radio show that Fox News and at least one of its anchors "caved" in its coverage of Shirley Sherrod, the former USDA employee who was fired in haste on Monday after an edited clip of her was posted on a conservative website.

"I have to go after it … because even Fox caved on this," Limbaugh said. "Even Shep Smith. Even poor old Shep Smith went down there and said that everybody's wrong on this, that [BigGovernment.com founder Andrew] Breitbart is wrong and so forth. There's only a handful of us that have the guts to put this story straight. If we don't hammer back nobody will."

Limbaugh dismissed the story, saying he was bored by it.

"It's nothing more than the left playing the race card, the NAACP has thrown down the gauntlet because the big government argument has failed," Limbaugh said. "They are keeping alive the divisions in this country and I hate taking the bait, I hate playing along with it, I simply despise the whole thing."

"We've got a bunch of cowards in the conservative media inside the beltway which will not deal with this honestly," Limbaugh added.

Limbaugh took aim at Fox News anchor Shepard Smith because on Wednesday, Smith sharply criticized Breitbart's website as well as his network's own reporting on the story.

"The video taken completely out of context it ran all over…and on television including this network," Smith said Wednesday on his show. "We on Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the story in any way for many reasons. Among them: We didn't know who shot it, we didn't know when it was shot, we didn't know the context of the statement, and because the history of the videos on the site where it was posted. In short-we did not and do not trust the source."

On Monday, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly was the first cable news anchor to play part of the edited clip, saying afterward "That [Sherrod's comment] is simply unacceptable and Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately."

One hour later, Sean Hannity played the clip at the top of his show and announced Sherrod's resignation.

On Wednesday, O'Reilly apologized for his statements saying: "I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for not doing my homework, for not putting her remarks into the proper context."

  1. what a joke

What a joke Limbaugh really is, he cares more for a blog that knowingly lies and edits its post and now has the gall to defend lies and to keep the anger rolling to make a scene. This really show most that Limbaugh is way out of the main stream and that they( all those who believe he is always right) have been following that big fat bus rolling off a cliff.

I'm not sure I understand Limbaugh's issue here. An edited video clip was released that made Sherrod appear racist. The media outlets and blogs jumped all over it and demanded her resignation without performing their due diligence. The rest of the clip surfaced and it became apparent to everyone that this woman was not in fact a racist, but unfortuately the damage was done and this woman's reputation had been sladered beyond repair. And now Rush has the nerve to criticize those who have apologized to her for their huge mistake? And rather than do the right thing and admit they were wrong, I'm sure the conservative zealots who were the loudest in shouting for her resignation are busy trying to dig up ANY dirt they can on this woman that will justify their original reporting. This is the biggest problem with politics in America today, an unwillingness (perhaps inability?) to admit mistakes and acknowledge that not everyone in the opposing party is evil.

good for a few over at faux news...NOT Shammity though. He's as disgusting as ever. And as for the corpulent pill-popper. We are bored of you so please go away. Even when it comes to light that the material was bogus, he STILL cannot let it go due to his utter hatred of anything to do with Obama...he's pathetic

Seriously, Rush, you can't be smarter than everybody else in this country. Intelligent people admit their mistakes when they make them. Foolish ones like yourself...

I cannot wait for Rush Limbaugh and the rest of his greedy, racist generation to finally die off.

Rush lost big time on this one. That's because the American people and some decent media outlets made sure that personal opinions and feeling were put aside for justice. Rush would not recognize JUSTICE. If the American people keep standing up and raising their voices when necessary, the likes of FOX news, Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck will be OVER.

If by 'caved in' he means 'decided to tell the truth instead of the fabricated misrepresentation' then I guess he's right. A pity that he is so morally bankrupt he cannot acknowledge that truth is better than a right-wing agenda when it's proven clearly that the agenda was a LIE. Rushiepooper, we hope you drown in your own waste. You don't deserve for anyone to listen to you when you even blatantly promote lies as if there weren't anything wrong with it. You cannot even pretend that this thing was the truth but you clearly don't care. This is why MOST of the country understands that you're an idiot. The rest are simply idiots themselves.

This should be no great surprise. The Government and media establishment constantly fosters a false front of tolerance and diversity, which is a CROCK! In the USA I grew up in there were only AMERICANS not 33 flavors. This is used by the system to DIVIDE and CONQUER (rule-control).Only very few here seem to care or notice cause they are too busy being divided to know it. Just like Disneyland Americans love to live in fantasy world of equality. You REALLY think this place is equal? Then indeed you do live in Disneyland. The Sherrod incident is a gift for the system, they are the only ones in the end to profit from taking one person and "making it right"

Rush's right wing organized crime syndicate tried to place a race card, and it backfired hard on them, and the Don is trying to salvage something by attacking his cohert in the Big Lie machine for not having the guts to stand behind this lie. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of these right wing mobsters I have long prayed for as the damage they have and continue to try and inflict on this country borders on treason. Put the light of fact and truth on them, and they scurry like the social cockroaches they ultimately are.

No one keeps the 'divisions' in this country alive more the Rush Limbaugh. The NAACP is good for exaggerating one divisive incident every few months. Rush does that (and a lot more/worse) for several hours a day.

Rush Limbaugh is a disgusting stain on our society, who has ZERO credibility. He's an admitted abuser of prescription pain pills, a person who he himself would not give a break to. He should just shut his ignorant mouth and crawl back under the rock he slithered out from under.

And you know what the Right is doing today? Attacking Obama for firing her. Bill Carroll was going off on them over and over, as well as multiple members of Bill Handel's show. I'm sure there were more but I was sick of listening to right-wing radio for the day already.

Sure, Rush and all of Fox News can publicize a doctored, out-of-context tape and call for Sherrod's resignation – but then criticize Obama after he actually did it. If he had waited until all the facts were in, they would have said he was a racist and stalling. If he had never fired her and said the tape was doctored and out-of-context, they would have said he was a racist and covering it up.

Please, Rush is an entertainer. He makes his money playing devils' advocate and this is nothing more than his best attempt to contort an obviously fraudulent act by Breitbart into some political gambit of the Liberals.

Nice try Rush, unfortunately, O'Rielly, Shep and to a lesser extent Fox News, must have some semblance of character whereas, you, do not.

For shame, jumping the gun... that is why Blacks and Whites don't get a long jumping the gun, information based off what, prejudices, preferences, stereo-types, fear, PAST experiences...
Deal with the individual the Here and Now, listen, ask questions... apology not accepted because asking someone to be fired for something 24 years ago let me see I am 27 minus 24 I was 3 years old must I be fired for my childhood no-no's. Limbaugh, and O'Reilly should be fired for telling Ms. Sherrod should resign see how easy that is, huh!

Fox News WAS wrong, the way CBS was wrong on pickup truck explosions a few years back. Andrew Breitbart WAS Wrong the same way that news team was on those pick up trucks. Rush Limbaugh IS NOW as wrong as any of them. Facts were suppressed and distorted. Left or right, one is not entitled to their own facts, whatever the agenda. The media is very greedy in wanting to keep an audience at any cost to sell advertising space. This greed clouds the judgment of those who edit the news. The same way CBS cleaned house, Fox would do well to dismiss Andrew Breibart from their midst to shore up what little credibility they have—which was'nt much to begin with.

Just wait in the future when O'Reilly, Hannity and Limbaugh make a mistake, at their going rate the next time they speak, and say something stupid they will cite 'Sherrod" as an example of people who words were also taken out of context...
