Limbaugh says Fox News 'caved' in Sherrod coverage

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/06/21/art.getty.rush.limbaugh.jpg caption="Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday."]

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh said Thursday on his radio show that Fox News and at least one of its anchors "caved" in its coverage of Shirley Sherrod, the former USDA employee who was fired in haste on Monday after an edited clip of her was posted on a conservative website.

"I have to go after it … because even Fox caved on this," Limbaugh said. "Even Shep Smith. Even poor old Shep Smith went down there and said that everybody's wrong on this, that [BigGovernment.com founder Andrew] Breitbart is wrong and so forth. There's only a handful of us that have the guts to put this story straight. If we don't hammer back nobody will."

Limbaugh dismissed the story, saying he was bored by it.

"It's nothing more than the left playing the race card, the NAACP has thrown down the gauntlet because the big government argument has failed," Limbaugh said. "They are keeping alive the divisions in this country and I hate taking the bait, I hate playing along with it, I simply despise the whole thing."

"We've got a bunch of cowards in the conservative media inside the beltway which will not deal with this honestly," Limbaugh added.

Limbaugh took aim at Fox News anchor Shepard Smith because on Wednesday, Smith sharply criticized Breitbart's website as well as his network's own reporting on the story.

"The video taken completely out of context it ran all over…and on television including this network," Smith said Wednesday on his show. "We on Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the story in any way for many reasons. Among them: We didn't know who shot it, we didn't know when it was shot, we didn't know the context of the statement, and because the history of the videos on the site where it was posted. In short-we did not and do not trust the source."

On Monday, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly was the first cable news anchor to play part of the edited clip, saying afterward "That [Sherrod's comment] is simply unacceptable and Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately."

One hour later, Sean Hannity played the clip at the top of his show and announced Sherrod's resignation.

On Wednesday, O'Reilly apologized for his statements saying: "I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for not doing my homework, for not putting her remarks into the proper context."

Rush is a sick man and would NOT worry about destroying a poor woman in order to make money. That is his way of life.

I don't usually like Rush that much, but I agree with him on this.

Problem is no one is talking about the nodding, yes siring or whatever the heck it's called that the audience was verbalizing in agreement with the stuff Sherrod was spewing previous to her saying she was wrong and that she learned something. No matter what anyone says, that was wrong and it shows a lot about the way the people in attendance feel about "white" people. I'm sick of the whole thing and he's right, it's race baiting...but I knew it would get worse under Obama......not becasue of Obama per se, but because of the cowardly media in this country, keeping the divide alive.

So who cares what this buffoon thinks. Fox got this mess aired and they should be sorry. Most people think that they do their homework before they put it out for the public. Not so. Go take a pill Rush.

"The left playing the race card"?Am I missing something or is this bird brain up to his usual way of talking in circles so he can get away with putting everyone down and we might not notice...This whole thing was a form of fraud in that a story was told that left off enough of the facts to turn the story completely around..making the finished product untrue. It was circulated widely in this condition which caused even the NAACP to take a stand. How is this "THE LEFT PLAYING THE RACE CARD"? Once the complete and true story came to light, everyone attempted to make reparations. and Limbaugh {not what I really call him} is up to his usual distortions., I guess this is because the truth hurts?

We're out to prove the righteousness of our position. Who cares if some woman gets hurt because we distorted her words into the opposite of what she actually meant. She's just collateral damage. Every revolution has its casualties.

Radicals - whether Lenin or Limbaugh - are dangerous people.

Real Journalist confirm their facts before reporting. Since Rush is a "Ready, Shoot, then Aim" entertainer, he does not have to report facts if he does not want to.......

These clowns really need to get on their knees and pray that they grow an objective view of things...... It's just sad.

The Conservatives have made enemies of the Latino population, they've attacked the gay population, they routinely attack Afro population...over and over again hostility and ignorance...we now know we have a common enemy...keep pushing Rush...Keep pushing!:)

What is sad is that this lady's life has been totally turned upside down. Maybe Rush forgot the changes to Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd among others. It would do him well to have a heart change too!

Awesome. Obama threw her under the bus before Fox News covered it, and the Left blamed them. Now Limbaugh blames them for being too lenient. Sometimes you can't win!

So in other words, Fat Rush wants to run the story anyway, he doesn't care if it is a lie. So this is what you right wing nuts want from your leader, just lie and then lie some more. Then you wonder why you are less than 20% of the American people. Yes you poor slobs, the other 80% of America has evolved past the GOP lies and tactics and this is exactly why.

Vote NO in NOvember to the party of NO.

I think Rush is back on those pills. Goes to show you who has integrity (Smith, even O'Reilly) and who doesn't. But then again Rush is really only an entertainer after ratings, and as such doesn't have to have any integrity.

Rush HATES finding out when someone is more racist than he is... and he just lost the crown to Breitbart and his editing machine!!

This is great - this Shepard Smith makes a case for doing due dilligence and competent reporting (you know, like looking into context before screaming mindlessly - it's amazing!), and gets hammered by a drug-addled one-trick-pony gasbag who is irrelevant to every thinking person in the world.

Hell, even Bill O'Reilly is getting to sound entirely reasonable. I've never really agreed with him on anything ever, but he has his moments of respectability (more so now that the rest of Faux News has gotten so much more shrill and slanted).

Wow....Bill O'Reilly admits that he was wrong while Sir Pill Popper himself still doesn't say anything other than the same old tired drivel.....

I am tired of this story though, it's very simple, a man acted dishonestly and a woman lost her job. Case closed.

I do not live in a America , but looking in from the outside I can only conclude that this constant race card baiting is not doing any good to anybody.
Perhaps you could start calling yourselves Americans , not African Americans , Hispanic Americans and so forth .
I have been to Africa many times , have you the so called African Americans , I guess not.
Since Obama has become the leader of your country there has been more divisiveness and reversed racism than ever before.
It is unproductive and takes you back many years.
Most western and civilized countries don't have that problem anymore , you get educated , work hard and fit in with society and you find color doesn't matter.

Fox News isn't real news anyways, its just biased "reporting" of personal views for sheep who want to believe whatever Bill O'Reilly & Company say anyways.

I am so tired of hearing about this for the past 24-plus hours. Just shows how desperate the joke "Tea Party" etc. is. If you can't find something, make it up (or crop it).

Simply amazed... with all the facts present, Rush still wants to crucify this woman... as if there isn't enough reasons to NOT take Rush serious. Wow, and to think, he has such a large listening audience... I'm Swiss... that's it, I'm Swiss

While she backed away from her racist statements, she still looks at the world through rich versus poor eyes, and this from a woman who won 16 mill from the USDA in a court vase a WEEK before she started her job at the USDA. What do you want to bet her job was part of the court settlement, which claimed the USDA discriminated against black landowners. Her family sold the land that was the basis of the suit twenty years ago. Identity politics all the way.

I guess Ms. Sherrod will now become the next big African American hero - who's next? Why can't they just be like average Americans and stop the hoopla about every little issue? They are just hurting their own image. Let's work together as ONE in this country.

Anyone with integrity would admit that the reporting on Ms. Sherrod was shoddy and should be ashamed at the quality of their journalism. Clearly Rush doesn't care about 'context'. If something can support his positions, doesn't matter if it is true or not. Hopefully, those who trust Rush to have integrity in his 'reporting' will realize from this incident that he doesn't care about accuracy, just likes to spout his ideas whether they are right or wrong.

Someone has to explain to me why Fatboy has any audience. It's the ignorant, uninformed, lazy rednecks and losers in this country who make up his audienc and who gives a rip about what they think. Limbaugh gives them their opinions. He is racist to the core and has a demonstrated record of being so. Limbaugh, Michele Bachman, Palin, everyone at Fox (except Smith), and most republicans are whats wrong with this country. But most of all, the blame lies with the vast sea of stupid Americans who tune into these types of shows which do nothing to lift up this country or the collective IQ of Limbaughs audience.
There is no cure for dumb.
