Limbaugh says Fox News 'caved' in Sherrod coverage

Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday.

Rush Limbaugh attacked Fox News on Thursday.

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh said Thursday on his radio show that Fox News and at least one of its anchors "caved" in its coverage of Shirley Sherrod, the former USDA employee who was fired in haste on Monday after an edited clip of her was posted on a conservative website.

"I have to go after it … because even Fox caved on this," Limbaugh said. "Even Shep Smith. Even poor old Shep Smith went down there and said that everybody's wrong on this, that [BigGovernment.com founder Andrew] Breitbart is wrong and so forth. There's only a handful of us that have the guts to put this story straight. If we don't hammer back nobody will."

Limbaugh dismissed the story, saying he was bored by it.

"It's nothing more than the left playing the race card, the NAACP has thrown down the gauntlet because the big government argument has failed," Limbaugh said. "They are keeping alive the divisions in this country and I hate taking the bait, I hate playing along with it, I simply despise the whole thing."

"We've got a bunch of cowards in the conservative media inside the beltway which will not deal with this honestly," Limbaugh added.

Limbaugh took aim at Fox News anchor Shepard Smith because on Wednesday, Smith sharply criticized Breitbart's website as well as his network's own reporting on the story.

"The video taken completely out of context it ran all over…and on television including this network," Smith said Wednesday on his show. "We on Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the story in any way for many reasons. Among them: We didn't know who shot it, we didn't know when it was shot, we didn't know the context of the statement, and because the history of the videos on the site where it was posted. In short-we did not and do not trust the source."

On Monday, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly was the first cable news anchor to play part of the edited clip, saying afterward "That [Sherrod's comment] is simply unacceptable and Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately."

One hour later, Sean Hannity played the clip at the top of his show and announced Sherrod's resignation.

On Wednesday, O'Reilly apologized for his statements saying: "I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for not doing my homework, for not putting her remarks into the proper context."

This statment might mean more if it came from someone with a shred of credibility. Limbaugh wouldn't know the truth if it slapped him in the face. His drug addled brain is no longer capable of differentiating the truth from a lie nor does he really care. He just bloviates and hopes that it will stick and sadly the right-wingers eat it up. The republican party has gone from a respected political force grounded in the tennants of fiscal responsibility and smaller government to being a party of extreemists. Reagan and Gingrich ruined the party forever.

Well, if they pissed off Limbaugh, Fox must be doing something right. Kudos to O'Reilly and Smith for doing the right thing.

Limbaugh is deaf, Beck is going blind. If they were both mute, we'd all be much better off.

So the conservative media is a bunch of cowards if they don't perpetuate what amounts to an untruth?

This is why I listen to NPR only for my news coverage. The networks are toxic for all of us and this needs to STOP! I respect the freedom of speech and the 1st amendment, but this is getting ridiculous! Why do we continue to support these commentators, what and listen to their shows and taking as news.... IT ISN'T PEOPLE.... WAKE UP!

There's nothing worse for Rush Limbaugh than when conservative leaning figures take positions that go against his agenda. Worst of all is when they are willing to stand up for the truth.

"The only racism in America is that on the left and that against whites," claims this loud-mouthed charlatan; and his flock nods and smiles.

The truth is not important for people like him; only that the "truth" aligns with his agenda and conception of the world.

This Jerk is unreal, he is one of the leader of these racist wing nuts, yet he is allowed to continue to spew his garbage on a radio station that condome his rant and fear mongering, supported by sponsors who condome it, a republican party who sit hidden in a corner quietly cheering him on. Until these people take their blinders off and realize these wing nuts are dividing American and are the ones playing the race card or do they really care. Wakeup america and may God continue to bless America and our President!!

Rush is talking about other people keeping divisions alive? What? He is the king of drawing lines across parties and race and keeping what divides us stirred up and blown out of proportion. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Yes, you tell them rush – tell them that you support the media altering and editing video to relay a completely malicious story. You do it on your show all the time...

The ones playing the race card are on the right. Trying to show reverse racism by selective editing. I would think that they should be ashamed, but then again that requires a conscious... And the biggest coward is Rush!

Typical Limbaugh, it's all about left and right, right and wrong don't matter, true/untrue: irrelevant.

I have an idea that will definitely work for the Obama administration. Just say the opposite of what you want to actually do then do it, that way you will automatically have the republican party happy. I've never thought in a million years people would purposely hurt their own country just because they don't like one man.

The left is playing the race card? Who started this? The right. The same old hate mongers who keep stoking the flames of racism and blaming the victims for their own sins. Who does this blowhard think he's fooling?

CNN, please stop reporting on rush and the quitta from wassila: continuing to give these radical hate mongers a platform is legitimizing their lunacy.

Seriously, how many more posts do we need to read about sarah palin's tweets? answer: none

Rush Limbaugh is just bad for the country. We have real problems and he's just stirring up controversy for ratings...while sitting on his pot of gold counting greenbacks. I hope someday soon his followers will wake up and see how little he cares about our country. He cares only about his money.

So this means that Rush Limbaugh condones distorted, edited and untrue postings taken out of context as long as they support his ideology. Well isn't that nice? So that pretty much explains how much he cares about telling the truth when he rants and raves on his won show. Actually this whole incident has turned out to have a silver lining because it has finally exposed the true motivations and deceptiveness of many of the right wing mouth pieces. Finally now maybe people won't take everything they say as the gospel truth. It's about time they were made more accountable.

It is about time we distinguished between journalism, commentary, and propaganda. What Breitbart and Limbaugh offer is propaganda.
