Tennessee Republican floats secession threat

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/23/art.wamp.file.gi.jpg caption ="Tennessee Congressman Zach Wamp argued that mandates forced on the states by the Obama administration's health care bill have put secession on the table."]

(CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry's suggestion in April 2009 that his state might consider secession drew a round of mockery nationwide, but his blustery populist rhetoric earned him serious traction among GOP primary voters in his re-election fight against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Perry, riding a tide of anti-Washington sentiment, went on to trounce Hutchison and another candidate in the Republican primary earlier this year.

Now another gubernatorial hopeful is test-driving a similar message.

Rep. Zach Wamp, one of three candidates seeking the GOP gubernatorial nomination in Tennessee, told Hotline OnCall that Perry had the right idea. Wamp argued that mandates forced on the states by the Obama administration's health care bill have put secession on the table.

"I hope that the American people will go to the ballot box in 2010 and 2012 so that states are not forced to consider separation from this government," Wamp told Hotline OnCall Friday.

Wamp said he hopes voters send a message in November that the federal government should "strictly adhere" to the Constitution.

"Patriots like Rick Perry have talked about these issues because the federal government is putting us in an untenable position at the state level," he told OnCall.

His primary opponents, Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey and Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, both told the website they don't support secession.

Even simple talk such as that is equivalent to treason. Tread very very lightly. If you want to see the future of this path just look to all the bombings continual infighting and lawlessness of Iraq. I think the regret would run very very deep after millions lie dead from one fools desire to score political points.

Let me the first to say Bon Voyage to these guys....heck,... I've got a couple of suggestions....adopt the Turkey as your nationl bird, elect Ruppert and Sean Hannity or Rushbo as your Prez and VP....how about naming your new nation the United States of ......you can fill in the blanks but how about.....oh too many choices..... have your own broken health care system, your own financial system, have your own rules,....just find some empty land on the moon and go....... so let me say for probably a whole bunch...go ahead make our day.......don't let the door hit you on the fanny on the way out....and the sooner the better....

This is not even worth commenting on much. The sad thing is people are going to always find a way to justify this idea. Politicians like this are not even regarded as traitors anymore. This is ridiculous. One day they'll get the very things they are asking for and this country will pay a heavy price for its intolerance, bigotry, and self righteousness.

Sad commentary on the state of politics that a lunatic like this could float the idea that helped trigger the bloodiest war in the history of this country. How about coming together to find common solutions to big problems rather than float insane ideas for media time and uneducated, ignorant votes?

You know it'd be nice if I could feel like Republicans were just people who happened to have different political preferences than mine. And then they go and do stuff like this.

What is wrong with this person ? ! ?

620,000 dead Americans aren't enough for him?
Does he plan to reestablish slavery?
    Refight the Civil War?
Enshrine "Ignorance is Gud" as his new nation's motto?

There was no glory in the US Civil War,
There were no noble "Lost Causes"
There was simply four years of utterly futile and stupid death, suffering, destruction, and loss because some people could not understand that if a human being has any value at all, he is too valuable to be property.

It's the old "I'm taking my toys and going home" idea. If you don't like something, don't give it a chance. Why would you do that? It's better to threaten something BIG and ignore the fact that this could be something good for America, If these spoiled children could maybe try to look at things differently. But will that happen? No. Sorry. We didn't get our way so we are leaving. Very mature.

A state may not leave the union. That's it, end of story.

We are dealing with small minds here......let them rant, then put them in jail, as traiters of the country, if they actually attempt a secession.

Gee, when George Bush forced his unfunded "Leave No child Behind" mandates I didn't here this yahoos screaming for secession. Typical morons out there, they won't admit that they are racist; but it sure is obvious.

Now who is unpatriotic? Wow, this guy should be hung at noon in the town square for treason.

The voters sent a message and elected Obama. Stop acting like two year olds and deal with it. Bush was horrible, but you didn't hear people suggesting secession. Unbelievable.

Secession? Is this man serious? Sounds more than a little treasonous and way more than a little stupid. There is a black president learn to deal with it. Because otherwise he would have been floating the idea around back when Bush/Chaney and their merry band of fools were doing their best to run this country into the ground in the name of corporate profit.

LMAO...why secession? Thats the alternative to our president and Congress passing laws they dont agree with? How classless...why seceede just move out of the country we'd be soo much better off without people who think this way. While you are at it take Rush, Palin, Beck, and OReilly with you...good riddance

Shamelessly Stupid! The Civil War has already been fought and won by the North...or has that story been distorted by conservatives in Texas who dictate what goes into public school text books?
