Franken implores activists at Netroots convention to fight

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/07/25/art.frankencu0725.gi.jpg caption="'I know progressives are frustrated...because it feels at times not everyone in our party is pushing at the same pace,' Democratic Sen. Franken said Saturday night at the annual Netroots Nation convention."]
Las Vegas, Nevada (CNN) - Using some of his trademark humor and dire predictions, Minnesota Sen. Al Franken implored thousands of his fellow progressive activists Saturday to redouble their efforts to prevent the Democrats from losing control of Congress.

He jokingly called the Netroots Nation convention of bloggers, leaders and others "the most exciting political gathering of the year without guns."

On a serious note, he said, he shared many of the frustrations of those in the audience about a lack of progress on some of their key priorities.

"You really haven't gotten your moneys' worth," he said, specifically mentioning such ideas as a public option government-run health care plan or education reform or public financing of elections.

"I know progressives are frustrated...because it feels at times not everyone in our party is pushing at the same pace," he said.

He told them, however, that several of the bills that have been passed in this Congress - such as the health care overhaul or Wall Street reform - have helped the nation and were stronger because of their efforts.

Love that gun comment! He's 100% right on....way t'go, Al! Unless you're a hunter and it has a purpose, toting a gun to a public gathering demonstrates a level of certain ignorance, not to mention twisted need for attention. Franken is no joke; he has a brain unlike the empty-headed mascot of the Repubs and we all know who she is.

SNL Alumni rallies activists? How pathetic CNN. I clicked over expecting to see an article on Janene Garofalo or someone else from SNL, not this State Senator who deserves much more respect then you have given him here. Shoddy journalism. Thanks for wasting my time with a misleading headline.

The prospect of what will happen under greater Republican power has already been demonstrated by their constant filibustering, their promises of inquisitions of all their "enemies" if they gain even one house of Congress, their toadying to BP, their willingness to let several million unemployed go hungry, and their use of malicious presstitutes like Breitbart to promulgate racist propaganda Goebbels would have preened over. A little good is vastly better than much evil, and if you don't want evil, get out and vote against it!

GOP, your broken record comment that the Dems are "destroying the country" is comical considering you made this crap heap and since losing power want to offset the true blame (you) on the Dems. I see the Dems, though not perfect, at least trying to come up with real solutions instead of empty rhetoric. People's memories at not that short. Tax breaks for the wealthy need to go away. My husband and I happen to fall into that tax bracket and we could be whining but we also feel a sense of responsibility to help this country. You scream for "patriotism" but mostly I see a self-serving agenda; not looking out for the average American. I also use to be a Repub until I woke up.

This guy is a class act, he has integrity, honesty, and he is forward thinking...we need to replace all 40 GOP Senators with men like this...then we could rebuild our nation and make it the greatest country on earth...again.

what a completely obnoxious idiot! add to that he was elected by illegal aliens and then tell me again why we should give him any air time to spout his vile, hateful rants. this man is a disgrace to what was once a vaulted institution. if this is the best we can do we need to scrap the whole system and start over. minnesota should hang its collective head in shame that this is their elected representative

The number of felons allowed to vote by Democrat party poll Czars in MN more than account for the number of votes the Czars stole to install Franken as a Reid minion. Pull out the illegal votes cast by the felons and Franken loses.
