Kirsten Gillibrand ranks third on The Hill’s list of the 50 most beautiful people on Capitol Hill."](CNN) - It's been said Washington is the Hollywood for ugly people, but don't tell a handful of lawmakers that.
The Hill - a daily publication that covers Washington - is out with its annual 50 Most Beautiful People list and six members of Congress have landed coveted spots in the newspaper's yearly roundup of the more attractive Capitol Hill inhabitants.
Coming in at No. 3 is New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's replacement who has lost 40 pounds since joining the upper chamber a year and a half ago.
At No. 7 is California Rep. Judy Chu, the first Chinese-American woman elected to Congress who won a special election to replace current Labor Secretary Hilda Solis. Chu, a psychology Ph.D., says she stays grounded in the Capitol's dizzying halls by "taking a breather every once in a while."
The No. 9 spot is filled by Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., "a known fitness nut," the Hill says, who "converted one the gym's racquetball courts into a space dedicated to martial arts, yoga, pilates and the P90X exercise program."
Jackson, who once weighed more than 300 pounds, underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and tells the magazine he maintains his currently-lean physique via martial arts and Yoga.
Also making the cut is Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown – the Republican who stunned Democrats early this year when he won the seat held by Ted Kennedy for more than four decades. While Brown has famously had no qualms about posing for magazines in the past, the Hill says the newly-minted senator suddenly became camera-shy when it came to this list.
"It's a safe bet that Brown will never live down his past as a male model," the Hill writes. "But for now, when he travels the Capitol, he stays buttoned up."
Reps. Duncan Hunter, R-California, and Anna Eshoo, D-California, round out this year's list of stunning lawmakers.
Beauty is only skin deep. Greed goes all the way to the bone.
What a pathetic waste of time! Earthshattering journalism CNN.
Who cares?
By far the most beautiful is Mitch McConnell. How come he ain't on the list?
I got news for the beautiful people who have positions of leadership simply because they are beautiful.
We have had many, many of the beautiful people in charge over the last forty years and what did the average person get in return? An economic collapse equal if not greater than the great depression. News flash for you beautiful people, 90% of the population who are NOT considered the beautiful people who live honest and hard working lives could care squat about how good you look. How about getting us some jobs recovery between workouts and hair appointments?
The falls election is all about the ugly… Fire All Incumbents, vote for the ugly people.
Um, no Aaron Schock?
whatever. Why didn't they just subtitle their 50: "Most of whom aren't over 30"?
stupidheads.
Really ...most beautiful...! Do I really care! I want a lawmaker who has personal and professional integrity to look after the best interest of the American people. Now that's a beautiful lawmaker!
How many ways can the media create to cheapen Capitol Hill???!!!
Shouldn't JJ Jr. be in jail for trying to buy a US Senate Seat? Oh yea... he's a Democrat... what am I thinking!
If any of them were republicans just remember that they are ugly on the inside!
A perfect story for the big media – totally superficial, accessible to everyone with eyes, no impact whatsoever on government. But the media can say: Look, we're balanced. We don't just post pictures of Sarah Palin and Scott Brown.
We are such a swallow society that we are programed to equate looks with virility, godliness and good moral character.
What about the hapless schmuck not blessed with 'good looks' or the tattooed, overweight, poorly dressed and in desperate need of dental and body hygiene that we so lustfully judge in the negativism ?
And as far as the good Senator-did she have the luxury of scapeling away the excess flesh of her 40 pound loss?
Really? Nothing better to do today!
Isn't Barnie Fwank pretty enough to make the list?
So, so bizarre!
They are CRAZY. Nichelle Williams and Anu Vakkalanka are an interchangeable 1 and 2.
Interesting that the frist two are republicans and are not mentioned .
Guys – please – stop wasting our time!
We all know that "beautiful" is the only requirement for politics. Common sense isn't even on the list.
She's attractive??????????
Gee That's nice. Too bad they don't read bills before they pass them.............................
I think the number 6 pick should have been number (1) one.
Nichelle Williams is just beautiful!
Well, if Kirsten is "beautiful"....I would hate to see what the others look like.
YIKES! Scary!!
More silliness.
OK how about an ugly list. I know of one publicity seeking Congressman from Brooklyn/Queens that would make that list!
