Rangel offers statement ahead of ethics hearing
Washington (CNN) - Embattled New York Rep. Charlie Rangel brought up his Korean War experience Thursday while discussing his upcoming House ethics hearing.
"Sixty years ago, I survived a Chinese attack in North Korea," Rangel said. "And as a result I wrote a book that, having survived that, that I haven't had a bad day since. Today I have to reassess that."
The title of Rangel's autobiography is "And I Haven't Had a Bad Day Since."

When there has to be a "deal", you know there is something to hide.

Seems to me that I've heard that statement somewhere in the past – from another politician who resigned in disgrace..

Rangel, you low-life thieving crook... here's a fact. Thousands of US soldiers survived Chinese attacks in the Korean conflict.
And while you may not be using that as an excuse, it's not germaine to the conversation – so just drop it.
As they say in Monopoly... "Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200."
Rangel is a crook and should resign his seat in disgrace!

His service has nothing to do with his criminal tax dealings. What a pathetic attempt to try and get some sympathy.
Funny how if this was a republican accused of all these things it would have been resolved 2 years ago and the press would be ripping him apart. Since it's a black Democrat he gets no real press. The Today Show would have had a special on it if it was a Republican. No media bias, nope.
BTW his defense is he is a war veteran. So I guess as a veteran I can cheat on my taxes?
Maybe he has not had a bad day but he has created a lot of bad days for Americans, get rid of him.
Rangle is nothing but a criminal an should be thrown in jail. There should be no deals whatsoever. It's time for Democrats to begin cleaning their own house, and there's no better place to start.
Wait a second Mr. Rangel. I thought you were looking forward to this hearing. Then I saw the other day that you were trying to work out a settlement so you could avoid a hearing. Why would there be a settlement if you haven't done anything? Where is the great excitement for a hearing so you can be totally exonerated? Sounds like something fishy is going on here. Oh, that's right – normal politican behavior. Blame it on the right-wing conspiracy. It worked for Billy.
If Rangel were anyone OTHER than a democrat, my advice would be, "Don't drop the soap."
But, given that he's a democrat, my advice to him is: deny everything and when something comes to light that you absolutely cannot deny because of physical evidence, just say, "It's George Bush's fault."

Serving your country honerably decades ago is not an excuse for criminal behavior and abuse of office today.
