Gingrich: Expect Sarah Palin for President in 2012

Washington (CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, himself weighing a presidential run in 2012, said Thursday that he expects Sarah Palin to be among the Republican contenders seeking the GOP nomination.

Asked to size up the prospective field during an interview with conservative magazine Newsmax, Gingrich rattled off a list of Republicans he expects to run.

"Well there are going to be lots of Republican running: Gov. Romney clearly, Gov. Palin, Gov. Huckabee, Gov. Mitch Daniels, Gov. Haley Barbour, Gov. Tim Pawlenty. I think John Thune, the senator from South Dakota is going to get in. Ron Paul is probably going to run again. So I think it will be a lively campaign, there will be a lot of good candidates," Gingrich said.

None of the politicians mentioned by Gingrich have announced a run for President, and Gingrich himself said he will announce his decision next year.

"Calista [his wife] and I, along with our family, will make that decision in February or March," Gingrich said. "For the moment, I'm totally focused on trying to help Republicans win the biggest possible election this fall."

Asked if Palin would be a strong candidate for President, Gingrich said she has the potential to be just that.

"I think she is already a very strong personality and has the potential to be a very strong candidate," Gingrich said.

Yeah, let Sarah run. She does not even do well in straw polls and McCains own campaign manager said she would be a disaster if she ran. She didn't even finish her own term in Alaska because she wanted to make millions on speeches and book deals. I would be shocked if she ran because I think she is more comfortable making crappy books and criticizing the president rather than actually leading and figuring out problems. She is a diva, plain and simple.

As a conservative I can honestly say I hope not. Although I have nothing against Sarah I don't think she is what the country is looking for. I believe we have other new breed type conservatives I'd rather see. Ryan being one... past runners who fell short or the old same old song and dance (McCain) types aren't what I'm looking for.

It will be good for us all to see many candidates run. It will be good for the Democrats to see Palin run.

Sarah Palin doesn't want to be president. She has more money and more power as a female Rush Limbaugh. Gringrich's prediction is just a scare tactic for support for his own campaign.

This is the "best" they have to offer to this country? I hope she does run. The voters did not like her last time and she quit her last post. If you think that earns you a ticket to the big seat you better wake up. It will mean the Dems will have the White House for another 4 years.

Obama/Biden 2012! Continuing to do what is right for America. Obstructionist GOP... how do you like those apples?

I would hate to vote for Palin, but if that is what the opponent to what we have lived witness to so far, she will have my vote...

I would bet there would be a political rat killing in DC and a full reform of what has been passed this far, you betcha! The healthcare and Wall Street bills do little for the common citizen, but they sure do give the Federal Government much more power over our civil liberties... think about that! The Fed should downsize and do the job it is supposed to be doing, regulate with strict enforcement to our laws, they seem to have forgotten how to do their job as their noses are in a pile of the special interest monies. If you have ever seen a giant top heavy conglomerate go down, you can see that is exactly what is transpiring in our government structure. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians to do their job (all due respect to my Native brothers)!

Isn't this the same Newt that was thrown out of the House of Representatives in disgrace?

Isn't this the same Newt that was caught having sex with one of his volunteers on top of his desk?

While his previous wife was having cancer treatment.

Yep, it is THAT NEWT. The audacity of a scumbag.

Whatever happened to the Presidency being something respected? How can this person even think of running. No education, no world exposuren nothing. Geez, how can this country even think of having someone like this as an elected official. I want someone educated and someone who has some semblance of intelligence running my country. This is an idiot – another no one who can't speak intelligently and has no opinions that represent me and millions of other Americans. I'm sure there are many other women who would represent our Country with more dignity than this. The World will laugh if you make her the President. Blaach.

Will Palin campaign on the "No" platform, or the "Know nothing" platform? If Palin truly has any regard for our country, then she won't make a mockery of it by running for President.

If it weren't for age restrictions, there are 3rd graders more qualified than Palin to be President. Really.

Gingrich is a joke. This is the guy who was forced from his job as Speaker of the House by his own party.

Even Palin gets higher poll numbers as a republican hopeful than he does.
