[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" Rep. Maxine Waters was charged Monday with House ethics violations."]Washington (CNN) - A House ethics investigative panel has charged a high-ranking Democratic congresswoman with violating House rules by seeking federal financial assistance for a bank with ties to her husband.

According to the House ethics committee, California Rep. Maxine Waters helped arrange a meeting in September 2008 between a bank she and her husband had ties to financially and Treasury Department officials.

The bank was seeking federal assistance. Waters is a senior member of the House Financial Services committee.

Waters insists she did nothing wrong.

"I have not violated any House rules," she said in a statement released Monday. "I simply will not be forced to admit to something I did not do and instead have chosen to respond to charges made by the [ethics committee] in a public hearing. ... The case against me has no merit."

Now the Congressional Black Caucus is playing the race card by accusing the House Ethics Committee racist for investigating Waters. Such the typical response. So much for Pelosi's most ethical Congress ever ...

Along with this and what the SCTOUS RULED RECENTLY, THE AVERAGE american doesn't stand a change in campaign fund raising as the gop. It seems "08": was the last time that the average american will be able to fund their campaigns. This is a story that CRYS OUT FOR MORE TV AIR TIME TO EXPOSE THIS TAKE OVER OF OUR DEMOCRACY.

Dems have embraced a culture of corruption. Time to retire these boxos and send in citizen legislators who will cut spending.

wow where i'm glad that the ethics committee is finally buckling down, I don't think there's any merit to this either. Reason I believe there is no merit is because a ton of banks asked for federal funds and the fact that one of them happens to have ties (and who knows what type of ties) to her husband...who cares.

Of course she did something wrong – her husband at the time of the meeting between the Treasury Dept. officials and One United Bank was a stockholder at that bank and the meeting and follow up activity were handled by her Congressional office on a matter that had to do with her personal life for her personal interest, personal benefit, personal gain. She had no business getting involved, using her position as her husband and she stood to gain from such a meeting.

So what of it? She will not be found guilty of anything. These are the people that are making decisions on the future of this country. Scary stuff, makes the "Keystone Cops" look like academics!

The Democrats = Culture of Corruption. Now let's see if they do the right thing and if found guilty, remove them from Congress. Who would have thought that it would mainly be Democrats that she was talking about when Pelosi said she was going to drain the swamp.

Wow, non-blacks are throwing the race card out there more than black people. Its one thing to have "ties" to a company but a whole other issue when you own a great deal of stock in the company. (Halliburton) Now thats the biggest conflict of interest ive ever seen. Why wasnt Cheney made to resign?

Right on Maxine. If you have done nothing wrong, fight the charges and go back to work. Prove your innocence, and then let's expose those Republicans on the ethics committee that brought the charges for their own political gain.....Interesting timing....August before the midterms...on a two year old charge....I believe you Maxine.
