Angle wants journalists 'to ask the questions we want to answer'

Republican Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle told Fox News that she prefers to talk to journalists who 'ask the questions we want to answer'.

Republican Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle told Fox News that she prefers to talk to journalists who 'ask the questions we want to answer'.

Washington (CNN) - It's what all political candidates probably want but few will actually admit: if they could control the press, they would. But Sharron Angle is openly saying that she prefers talking to journalists that "ask the questions we want to answer," prompting one conservative publication to ask, "Did she just say that out loud?"

The criticism is in response to comments that the Republican Nevada Senate candidate made in an interview that aired on Sunday. Angle hopes to oust the most powerful Democrat in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid, in an increasingly brutal race. A fresh poll shows Reid with a slim lead.

On Fox News, Angle was asked about her defensive posture towards the press. She recently explained why she routinely refuses to do mainstream media interviews.

"We needed to have the press be our friend," Angle said in the Sunday interview that, Angle's campaign said, was done shortly after the June 8 Nevada GOP primary.

The interviewer then asked if Angle was being "naïve."

As part of her response, Angle said: "We wanted them [the press] to ask the questions we want to answer. So that they report the news the way we want it to be reported."

Angle went on to say she would like to use the media to raise campaign funds.

The conservative National Review's website put up a post with a headline blaring, "Did She Just Say That Out Loud?"

Others have questioned why a political candidate, even one as outspoken as Angle, would seem to suggest she'd prefer to manipulate the media.

Jon Ralston, well known Nevada political journalist, called Angle's comments "pretty astounding."

"All politicians want to answer the questions they want to answer," he told CNN. But Ralston said, "It is, at best, naïve."

Angle's campaign explained the comments to CNN.

"Nevada is in a state of despair and voters need a candidate that is going to focus on the issues that effect everyday lives like sky-rocketing unemployment and reckless government spending. Sharron was simply stating that we need to focus on solutions for those key issues, not 'gotcha' moments like Harry Reid wants to distract people with," Communications Director Jarrod Agen said in a statement.

Reid's campaign obviously disagrees.

"Sharron Angle is clearly starting to see that her positions on killing Social Security, eliminating the Education Department, and bringing nuclear waste to Nevada are quickly being rejected by Nevada voters," Reid campaign spokesman Jon Summer said in a statement.

Angle's campaign denies it wants to "kill" Social Security. The candidate has publicly said that she advocates a transition to personalized accounts as a way to salvage a broken Social Security system. As for the Education Department, the campaign has previously called it "unconstitutional" and blasted its "one-size-fits-all policy and programs that fit no one."

This woman is sooooo pathetic. Why doesn't she get the Teabaggers to buy her a major news organization and only talk to them. OR just go to FOX.

Why is Angle even in the race? Might as well nominate a plant.

Angle is not only ignorant but truly an assault on basic American values. Now she thinks the only function of the press is to serve her needs? She is a radical with too little respect for the Constitution to be allowed anywhere near the Capitol.

Is this what our political process has come to? Are we now allowing people to run for office who are neurologically impaired? Angle, whatever her obscure ideology might be, is perhaps one of the most ignorant politicians in the country. And that's saying something.

She picked the right outlet if she wants to answer pre-approved questions only. Those are the only kind that the entertainers on Fox News least of Repubs. Demanding responses to lies is reserved for the few Dems who are gullible enough to submit to an interview on that idiotic channel.

Wow....this is who the tea partiers' want? Puts into question the IQ level of every tea party member. Thinking like this is what got us into the mess in the first place. When did education become a bad or 'elitist' thing? Maybe if we as average Americans were better educated, we could avoid having people like Ms. Angle enter politics–although I'm sure she is quite a lovely person once you get to know her.....

Wow... would I ever like to get a hold of her and ask a few questions. Maybe I could help her campaign. Let's see, so she wants to be a Senator...How much money does a Senator make? What bills would you like to see put into legislation? How would you secure the borders? Do you think not going to church is a crime? Should Glen Beck, Rus Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Ann Coulter (aw heck, you know the ones) be deported for unAmerican actitivities? Should poor people be jailed? And on and on and on.

And we would like to elect the politicians that we want elected. But for some strange reason, absolute dolts like Sharon Angle keep doing well.

And to think that a poll reported by CNN (big surprise there) calls it a dead heat in NV. There are one of two things going on: Either (1) the people of NV are amazingly stupid for seriously considering Angle, or (2) the poll is biased and is really meant to keep this race close, and Sharon Angle has a chance only because of the hard work on the part of the corporate media in this country. Or, both, I guess... I'm inclined to believe the latter.

Contrary to what Sharron Angle thinks, it is actually not the express purpose of the media to lie.

Unbelievable that the Republicans found somebody that could lose to Reid.

Her comment sound like a typical Republican Tea Bagger to me that wants to control the media and avoid all the hard questions. This have become the Republicans plan do not answer any questions just they onces that will make the Republicans look good. She is nutty then a fruit cake.

This is why Conservatives in Congress NEED to lie 24/7.

Because when they tell the truth they show just how against the American citizenry they are.

What Angle and the mindless conservative collective fail to comprehend is that it is the JOB of the media to keep tabs on politicians, report the facts even if - especially if - they are unpleasant to the person, and not let him or her get away with things!

If you say or believe or do something stupid, and the media reports on it, it's not the media's fault - it's your fault for saying or believing or doing something stupid! If conservatives had their way, they would be able to get away with ANYTHING and just sweep it under the rug and nobody would know because in a Conservative utopia, the media wouldn't have the right to report on it.

Dogonnit, Sharron, just because it's GOP policy that doesn't mean you are supposed to say it out loud! Sheesh, that'd be like apologizing to BP, or hoping the country fails. Just because your wing of the party really wants that, you're not supposed to actually SAY it in public!

Are you kidding me, this nutty woman refuses to answer any questions, I can't believe the level of incompentency in politics this day and time and no I am not talking about Obama, I am talking about the republican party and the low IQ's. Palin, Bachman, and Angle give women in politics a bad name. As a woman, I would never want to be associated with these dummies!
