Angle wants journalists 'to ask the questions we want to answer'

Republican Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle told Fox News that she prefers to talk to journalists who 'ask the questions we want to answer'.

Republican Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle told Fox News that she prefers to talk to journalists who 'ask the questions we want to answer'.

Washington (CNN) - It's what all political candidates probably want but few will actually admit: if they could control the press, they would. But Sharron Angle is openly saying that she prefers talking to journalists that "ask the questions we want to answer," prompting one conservative publication to ask, "Did she just say that out loud?"

The criticism is in response to comments that the Republican Nevada Senate candidate made in an interview that aired on Sunday. Angle hopes to oust the most powerful Democrat in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid, in an increasingly brutal race. A fresh poll shows Reid with a slim lead.

On Fox News, Angle was asked about her defensive posture towards the press. She recently explained why she routinely refuses to do mainstream media interviews.

"We needed to have the press be our friend," Angle said in the Sunday interview that, Angle's campaign said, was done shortly after the June 8 Nevada GOP primary.

The interviewer then asked if Angle was being "naïve."

As part of her response, Angle said: "We wanted them [the press] to ask the questions we want to answer. So that they report the news the way we want it to be reported."

Angle went on to say she would like to use the media to raise campaign funds.

The conservative National Review's website put up a post with a headline blaring, "Did She Just Say That Out Loud?"

Others have questioned why a political candidate, even one as outspoken as Angle, would seem to suggest she'd prefer to manipulate the media.

Jon Ralston, well known Nevada political journalist, called Angle's comments "pretty astounding."

"All politicians want to answer the questions they want to answer," he told CNN. But Ralston said, "It is, at best, naïve."

Angle's campaign explained the comments to CNN.

"Nevada is in a state of despair and voters need a candidate that is going to focus on the issues that effect everyday lives like sky-rocketing unemployment and reckless government spending. Sharron was simply stating that we need to focus on solutions for those key issues, not 'gotcha' moments like Harry Reid wants to distract people with," Communications Director Jarrod Agen said in a statement.

Reid's campaign obviously disagrees.

"Sharron Angle is clearly starting to see that her positions on killing Social Security, eliminating the Education Department, and bringing nuclear waste to Nevada are quickly being rejected by Nevada voters," Reid campaign spokesman Jon Summer said in a statement.

Angle's campaign denies it wants to "kill" Social Security. The candidate has publicly said that she advocates a transition to personalized accounts as a way to salvage a broken Social Security system. As for the Education Department, the campaign has previously called it "unconstitutional" and blasted its "one-size-fits-all policy and programs that fit no one."

Well, she's got an interesting angle on how it works. The rest of America wants journalists to ask the questions that she *doesn't* want to answer. She's not up to the task and shouldn't hold any public office, but at least she admits it.

So back to the GOP talking point........Which is, they want to put Soc. Sec. into Wall St.

This candidate is bankrupt of ideas.

If Bush and the republicans had their way in privatizing social security, millions of seniors who lost most of their retirement when the financial system nearly collapsed, because of their love affair with all street, would be eating dog food as their main diet.

Umm, no Sharon. That's NOT how journalism works you propeller-head.
You see the REAL news networks ( yes that excludes your pals at Fox )
do REAL work and ask REAL questions. If you have to spin the facts, run from reporters, pull down your own website...that's not going to get reporters from wanting to know what you're hiding.

Ladies and Gentlemen let me introduce you to the true Republican activist agenda. Obstuct, mislead, hide, and then blame the media from your own incompetence.

And she wants to be a representative of our UNITED States of America? I suppose she'll just ignore the tough issues. Coming from a Republican, this does not surprise me the least.

well of course she only wants to answer the simple questions – the ones she has the answer to – wait – I thought she was the one who had the cojones – I mean Sarah said so – on no – that was the idiot in AZ, the one with the "papers please law." sometimes it is hard to keep the fools straight in my mind. they are all so vocal and so wrong about everything they say. At least I do know they are all Republicans.

Wow! Just Wow! Either she is really naive or she has just admitted to being a fascist. She's also admitted that she can't handle being subjected to questions that don't play into her far right agenda. That's fight folks fascism is on the far right of the political spectrum.

More and more the republican ultra-facist right wing craziness is showing itself. Even through the fog of a tilted right-wing controlled media, the incredible arrogance and general disgust for the basic freedoms afforded by our Constitution that is the base of the modern republican political philosphy become clear.
    Is anybody listening?
    Does anybody understand?
Do you really have to address the American electorate at a 5th grade level to be understood?
    OK then:
The republicans are bad people. They steal everybody else's toys and then cry that no one is sharing. They sucker punch you and then say you are a bully when you defend yourself.
    Got it? Understand?
Good – I knew you could.
    Now, go vote accordingly.

I don't condone the comment, but she's only saying what is actually happening now with Democrats and "media news" such as CNN, NBC, and CBS. Democrats have been doing this for years...

What a bunch of self-righteous liberals on this blog!–AS IF Obama's have been asked anything by the liberal media but friendly, easy questions!–the woman is honest and a breath of fresh air–let the left wing media sharks treat her like they do the annointed one...(not a chance of a snowball - --!

I can see why she said that, any conservative that goes on mainstream media will be asked any and every thing, while the liberal candidates get a free pass.

Anyone who wants to retain Social Security as well as Medicare had best get out to vote against these right wing nutcases in the GOP. How dumb do they think we are – personalize – privatize – it is all the same thing. They now want to just use a different word. The gov't will not longer manage the accounts if the GOP has their way. Think about where your Soc. Sec. money would be NOW after the financial crisis if Geo. Bush had gotten our accounts privatized – accounts would be zip! The GOP is determined to do this – they do not want either program and have not since Ronald Reagan worked to prevent them when gov. of CA.

Please, people – vote against these GOP thieves in Nov. If you lose your Social Security and Medicare that will be the CHANGE you don't want. Don't sit back and let it happen. Be at the polls in Nov. supporting Pres. Obama, Harry Reid and others.

Even though the press takes and twists soundbites for the best possible ratings, the press keeps candidates in check. I think what she is hinting towards is Communism.

As much as the media makes trouble, they do unearth a lot of things the public may never see or hear.

I would say that the rethug party in Nevada is in need of a major overhaul when this is the best they have to offer. Even the Chicken Lady, Lowden, would be an improvement over this BIMBO, but not by much. On a scale of 1 to 10 the crazed bimbo would a -1and Lowden would a zero. I have asked several doctors if they would work for chickens and was told that whoever put these goofballs as the parties choice is in serious need of a frontal lobotomy, but then again any rethug would benefit from one.

Please, please all republicans/conservatives/tea baggers keep running your lips. Each time one of you opens your mouth your letting people see you for what you really are. As long as you "people" keep spilling crap from between your lips, I am not worried about mid-term elections. When you get silent, it just means your looking for something to grandstand with and nobody has fed you a line to swallow and repeat like it is factual. Please I beg all of you, keep regurgitating your nonsense.

Is it possible she thinks she's still running for student council???Her comments really paint a picture of what she thinks about the average voter in that they aren't asking the questions she wants to hear thus they are less in tune to real issues than she is. Her questions aren't being asked because nobody gives a damn about her pettiness and fear mongering!
