Steele rallies GOP 'legion of shock troops'

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption ="RNC chairman Michael Steele will urge party activists on Friday to keep up the pressure on Democrats."]Kansas City, Missouri (CNN) - Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele will tout GOP gains over the last year and urge party activists to keep up the pressure on Democrats as November approaches, according to prepared remarks he will deliver Friday at the RNC's summer meeting.

"In less than two years, we have gone from a demoralized super-minority party to a legion of effective shock troops who are on the offense and making Democrats sweat," Steele plans to say.

WASHINGTON – The following are excerpts from Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele's remarks during the RNC General Session:

"The time for Washington politicians lecturing Americans is over. Citizens across this great nation are looking for leaders with passion; leaders who are listening. And the American people have been very clear from the pool halls and the church halls, to the diners and the donut shops, in the red-hot Arizona sun and on the cool-blue California beaches, at the Liberty Bell and the Charleston Harbor, they're all saying one thing: Fire Nancy Pelosi! Retire Harry Reid! …

"A lesson long forgotten by those who are pushing through a big government, tax and spending binge agenda that has not healed our ailing economy, nor quote "saved or created" the jobs the American people need, but instead has out of touch politicians stripping away our freedoms. It was in those incredible, heady days of our founding that one of the heroes of that era, Thomas Jefferson, said ""the issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite." Ultimately, this question still moves us today. Will we be allowed to pursue our lives, our dreams; to create wealth and a legacy for our children without government interference? …

"Remember, it was about this time last year when Democrats went home for August to find that the honeymoon with the voters was over. That first "summer of recovery" failed to recover anything except the inconvenient truth that the Constitution still mattered and that unemployment was pushing double digits. And then Democrats had the fall follies when the President went all out for Jon Corzine and Creigh Deeds and all he got for his trouble were Governors Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell. And to cap it all off, there was Massachusetts and Hawaii as Scott Brown's red pickup truck and Charles Djou's momentum rolled right over their blue state monopolies …

"When faced with a terrible oil spill in the Gulf, left-wing conventional wisdom was President Obama could use this crisis to demonstrate his brilliant leadership abilities and ram cap-and-trade down America's throat. But a funny thing happened on the way to pick up the prize! Over 60% of the American people disapprove of the way the President is handling the spill and they didn't have the votes for cap-and-trade. And in the highest-ever turn-out for a mid-term election right here in Missouri this week, tens of thousands of Democrats voted against the crowning jewel of the Obama-Reid-Pelosi agenda – the European-style government takeover of healthcare …

"At a time when millions of Americans are out work, when great American companies are under siege, our leaders should be focused on nothing else except restoring economic growth and stability for our job-creating sector. Instead, every single policy proposed by Democrats in Washington has been a job-killer. From cap and trade, to the fraudulent, so-called "stimulus," and now, with the government takeover of healthcare, democrats are committing the worst kind of economic malpractice …

"We all know that our journey to this point has not been easy; and that the road ahead will surely test us-test our resolve, test our ability to remain united. We all remember the headlines from a year ago – that the GOP was finished, that we were nothing more than a "regional" party. Even our good friends at Time Magazine advertised their post-mortem on us by declaring the GOP an "Endangered Species" on their front cover …

"We were no longer going to settle for competing in 15 states – we were going to fight to win in all 50. Where we had ceded states to the Dems, we were now to get out our message, re-establish our grassroots and stand up for freedom. We all made a decision. We would no longer be the party of the politically timid. We would win back the people's seat in Massachusetts, and we did. We would win in New Jersey and Virginia, and we did. We would send a Republican to Congress from Hawaii, and we did …

"We have 88 days. In less than two years, we have gone from a demoralized super-minority party to a legion of effective shock troops who are on the offense and making Democrats sweat. But we can't rest on a successful here or a winning message there. Everything we've been doing, all of it, needs to be ramped up and maxed out in the next three months. Every dollar needs to do the work of ten. Every volunteer needs to recruit 10 more. Every door that's been knocked on needs to be knocked on again and again and again. Sleep? What's that? We can sleep on November 3rd …

"My fellow activists, we stand for American greatness-a proven exceptionalism. We stand for peace through strength. We stand for a government that gets out of the way of the American entrepreneur. We stand for an economic recovery that, when unleashed with lower taxes, limited regulations, reduced spending and smaller government, will bolster the confidence of America's job creators who will create an avalanche of new jobs …

"We are about to embark on the next step to fulfilling the promise of American greatness, a promise that dates back to the first Tea Party and our fight for Independence. In 1775, the patriots of the Second Continental Congress gathered in a room smaller than this one, and wrote what just as easily could have been penned today: "Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us" …

"We can do it. I know, because we have done it before. A generation ago, Ronald Reagan had the audacity not just to hope, but actually to get off the golf course and do the hard work to turn our country around; to insist on, not apologize for, America's greatness, and to recommit America to its founding principle–freedom. On November 3rd, I look forward to waking up knowing that, once again, "It is Morning in America. Let's get to work! Fire Pelosi!"

What an image, Mr. Steele. The Evil Empire shock troops, with aqua lung sounds of Darth Cheney in the background, trying to grind the country into the dust under their jack boots. That's as pure a picture of the Repugnant Party as I can imagine.

Just remember that in the end, the Evil Empire lost.

The republicans continue to believe their obstruction, abandoning the people of our country, promoting undying support for the rich and Wall St is the path to follow.
They do not realize the American people are sick of their unAmerian, dishonorable behavior. Their goal to destroy our president, regardless of the consequences, politics as usual which almost destroyed our countrty, win at any cost have made them a disgrace to our political system and our country.
We cannot allow people of this caliber to make decisions about our fuiture.

Republican's do not have any new ideas. All they want to do is rehash old pattern's. They truly are the party of NO. Please people: do not believe anything they tell you. They are a party of spoiled rich brats who care nothing for anyone who doesn't have lots of money.

You republicans are really out of touch. The only gains you are making are within the Republican ranks. Now everyone sees how your party reacts when a person of another background or color runs for a major office. God forbid if a Latina or anyone else that does not look like one of your so called America. They will suffer the same fate as you are giving out to President Obama. You have really opened the true American eyes.

Is he on the same medication Rush Limbaugh was on a few years ago? Steele still hasn't come clean on his Young Eagles and the strip club fiasco. Some family values there Mike.

You GOPers need a new leader that will bring the moderates and independent voters back into the fold. Mike Steele hasn't been doing that, he has just been wining and dining the hardcore conservatives who are not going to leave under any circumstances.

The GOP may win in '10, but right now they are on their way to defeat in '12.

Shock troops? What are they now, the Gestapo? For heaven's sake. Why don't you try addressing the issues and coming up with useful ideas and solutions instead of just fomenting the racist and ignorant elements in your party and scaring people with false information.

See this is the problem with our political system. Politicians are so focused on winning a particular branch of the government that they are not doing anything they are suppose to do for the People of this Country!!! They are not doing what is right for the people they do what is right for their Party affiliation or themselves!!! The Government overall is a mess!!! It is time we stop listening to the Media, Political pundits, Lobbyist, and ex politicians time to get them out of our Government!!! It is time that Government for the People and By the PEOPLE get back ON TRACK!!! If the person you elected is not trying to help this country VOTE THEM OUT be they a Democrat or a Republican!!
