House rejects lame duck measure

The House of Representatives has rejected a GOP measure that would have prevented the chamber from meeting in a lame duck session after this year's November midterm elections.

Key Republicans believe Democrats may attempt to use such a session to advance controversial legislation - an idea publicly rejected by Democratic leaders.

Sorry GOP scumbags, they are still in their "elected" positions until their terms expire. Always wanting to change the rules (or the Constitution) to suit their needs.

If the Democrats lose in November and while heading to the door decide to pass a ton of controversial laws, they will have effectively killed Obama's chances in 2012.

There is something for Congress to do. Why wouldn't there be a need for the House and Senate to come back after the mid term elections? Does the GOP feel that everything is going swell? If they do, they haven't been paying attention.

"Key Republicans believe Democrats may attempt to use such a session to advance controversial legislation – an idea publicly rejected by Democratic leaders."

And if you think a lame duck session WON'T happen, you seriously need to have your head examined.

After the socialists have had their @$$3$ handed to them by the voters November 2, the socialists won't have anything to lose at that point... they are free to vote for any crazy goosestepping totalitarian sh!t3 they want, without fear of voter backlash.

I mean honestly, what's the worst that can happen? They poll poorly? Who cares?! THEY'RE ALREADY HEADED HOME!

The liberals are going to try to steal more money from hard working Americans to give to their corrupt union bosses between the time they are voted out of Congress and the time their terms expire. They will of course try to get the union agenda passed over the objections of the American people like they did with the failed "porkulus" bill and the illegal, corrupt Obozocare bill. Why stop ignoring the people now is the liberal philosophy.

Republicans haven't done anything for the last 20 months. I'm all for Democrats doing their JOB. The GOBP is earning a check by simply saying NO to everything. Well this NOvember, there will be alot of republicans looking for employment.

It seems risky for the GOP to have taken this action – another way to grab on to some power in a passively aggressive way. Is their voter support strong enough to absorb the effects of this kind of wrangling?

Can you believe it?? The republicans wanted to shut down for two months!! Gosh, now they will have to continue their goals to fillibuster everything. What a sad, sorry excuse they are for politicians.
How anyone can continue to support a party who has and will continue to sell us out to Wall St and the rich, obstructs any and all policies to help the American people and has a diasterous goal of destroy our president regardless of the welfare to us and our country,
They are well on their way to becoming our country's most dangerous domestic terrorists. Out to destroy everything.

Of COURSE the Democrats will do this!! The American people FINALLY realize what a catastrophe having the Democrats totally in charge will do since they don't care at all about what the people want (including those that actually elected them). For example: Stimulus wasn't wanted but the Dems thumbed their nose at the people by doing anyway. Health Care wasn't wanted but the Dems thumbed their nose at the people by doing anyway. The people want the borders secured but the Dems thumbed their nose at the people by NOT doing. And so on and so on and so one.

So now the Dems see an upcoming typhoon where they will be kicked out of office in bundles so why wouldn't the Dems go against the people ONE LAST TIME on the way out? OF COURSE THEY WILL!!

So how do we keep that from happening? Make VERY CLEAR to your Senators (especially the ones that will be up for election in 2012) that they BETTER NOT go against the people by pushing through something without adequate debate or discussion. That is our only protection. The House will DEFINITELY try to push things through because Pelosi will lose her emporer's chair and have limited power starting in January (I HOPE she get's voted out but there are sooooo many wackos in San Francisco that they will probably reelect that witch).

They already get 6 months of recess – does the Orange Man need more time on his golf course or in his tanning bed???

We should pay them by the hours they work – it would save us a bunch of money, because a lot don't ever show up except to get on TV.

This shows just how desperate the Republicans are. They've given up trying to hide their shame and weasleliness, and are showing their true colors-running as they are all over their "principled" stands against all things Democrat.

Boehner, take a cue from Tiger and hang up the clubs for a while. Mr. McConnell, spend time with your wonderful family, and enjoy stepping away from Washington. Both of you-it's time to go. Let's not be Rangels about it and overstay to the point of national embarrassment.

Republicans sure are getting way ahead of themselves. They are NOT going to win the House and are likely to lose seats in both the House and Senate.
Running nutjobs like Ran Paul, Sharron Angell, Jackson in FL who is birther lunatic, and other absurd candidates will assure victories for the truly qualified Democrats. We even have a great chance of getting rid of Michele Bachmann who has no business serving in any official capacity. She is a fear and hate monger who is a complete airhead and lives in a world of conspiracy theories.
The gay John Boehner is already arrogantly and stupidly calling himself "Speaker". He better hope he can just get re-elected, His hard working class district is not too thrilled with his lack of work ethic. He has done NOTHING all year except use taxpayer money to pay 119 rounds of golf during work days at an ALL MALE country club. That does not count all the special interest groups who have taken him to elitist country clubs for games.
Boehner is also known to be in the local DC bars by 5PM every afternoon, so he certainly works no overtime for the People in these difficult times.
Boehner is on record for wanting to eliminate Social Security, Medicare and to repeal all 200 laws the Democrats passed for the benefit of the PEOPLE. Sound like IF he were speaker, no work would get done again as he only sought to destroy our progress and economic growth.
Maybe if Boehner would spend time doing real work for the PEOPLE instead of playing golf, having his toupe groomed every day, being in a tanning bed constantly and out drinking and doing who knows what else – he would be able to do the job he was elected to do.
OHIO – get rid of this foppish prima donna. He doesn't care whether working people live or die, have work or not, have unemployment benefits or not, have the same govt healthcare he has or not, and has no clue how real Americans live and what issues we face..
You have a strong Democratic candidate who knows exactly what work he wants to do for the People of Ohio. He is a Iraqi war vet and far more intelligent and dedicated to service than Boehner. He believes so much in getting Boehner out and a real leader in, he had to give up his job to continue to campaign, His employer fired him for running against Boehner. Shows once again how abusive corporations are in bed with Republicans.
Speaker Pelosi is constantly slandered by the Republicans – why? – because she is an outstanding leader, works hard, and gets important issues done. They are afraid of her strength, popularity and success rate. She has backed and fought for the PEOPLE all year and, unlike Boehner, worked long hours to get it done.
Vote for the Democrats who have DELIVERED solutions to help working Americans all year. THEY are the Party of the People. Republicans are the Party of the rich, white, corporate world and betray the People every time to kneel at the feet of their corporate masters who tell them how to vote to keep getting their bribes.

WHy in Gods good name would Democrats agree to such a stupid and historically unprecedented measure? republicons have done enough damage in slowing down recovery from conservative governance without allowing them to derail things even further. They are convinced they are going to have majorities in one or both houses next year, which will not be the case. Just wait until they can no longer hide behind the "Democrats have such a big majority" nonsense they have used hilel relying on the fact that most people do not understnad how congress actually functions - how will they explain their purposefull infliction of pain and misery on the people of the United STates then? They crashed our country, but are depending on their ability to keep it crashed as their only means to getting back to power - to do what? wreck it some more???? 0

Republicans might have garnered more support for the measure if they had wanted a vacation, with NO pay! That could have been sold to the country, as worth while. Marlene in Mich

What we need to do this November is give this congress permanent vacation. We need to have new people to have a chance at representing the people for a change.

I do not care about what party you belong to! "We the Peopleā€ got screwed again this time we need to make all of them pay with their jobs.
Guess what Congress "You Are Fired!"
This fall vote "No to incumbents"
    Fire All incumbents!
Congress allowed the American people to lose their jobs, their life's savings and their retirement. And then made the American people pay to bailout the ones who were responsible for the crime.
All while supporting the special interests, lobbyists, Big business and the wealthy.
You know what Congress, welcome to the ranks of the unemployed.

In other words, the rethugliban WOULD have used a lame duck session to advance controversial legislation. And since they believe everyone behaves as they do, it's only natural that they would take this stance. That being said, the rethugliban are certainly sure that they're going to be in the majority come November. What if they're wrong? What if the dems manage to pull a hail Mary pass and remain in the majority? What will the rethugliban do then?
