Legislator resigns after 'dead Palin' comment

State Rep. Timothy Horrigan made the remarks Wednesday night in a thread discussing the Alaska plane crash that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens.

"Well a dead Palin wd be even more dangerous than a live one...she is all about her myth & if she was dead she cldn't commit any more gaffes," Horrigan wrote.

Horrigan was commenting on another post by a Democrat running for the state house, party activist Keith David Halloran, who found himself in hot water Wednesday after writing about the crash: "Just wish Sarah and Levy [sic] were on board."

After the controversy quickly gained steam Thursday, Horrigan sent a letter to the Speaker of the New Hampshire House offering his resignation.

"I apologize for thoughtless remarks I made which have brought this House into disrepute," Horrigan wrote. "I enjoyed my time in the House and I thank you personally for your support over the years."

Ryan Williams, a spokesman for the New Hampshire Republican Party, said Democrats in his state have "a widespread fixation" with Palin's death.

"Instead of discussing their failed economic policies, New Hampshire Democrats are now spending their time openly discussing Governor Sarah Palin's death," Williams said in a statement. "Rep. Horrigan's comments are sick, twisted and disgusting, and they must be immediately denounced by Governor John Lynch and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.

While Palin has been (and continues to be) a scrourge on America, to wish her on a plane crash is going too far.

What an ignorant comment! I don't like Palin at all, but I wouldn't say anything about her being dead. Some people just don't need to be in public office.....but before the conservative bloggers start saying that all democrats are blah blah blah, please be reminded that Republicans have said some pretty awful things about Democrats basically calling them Hitler and murderers of the elderly. Tea partiers have sent nooses to lawmakers' office, etc. So please, no stone throwing because your house is most certainly made of glass.

The woman is a liar and a bigot. The kind that would yell "fire" in a crowded theater, no wonder people feel that way about her. Maybe she should be censured for the stories she makes up about the president and other democrats.

Notice all the crazy verbal bomb throwers are libs. They threatened Bush for years and even did movies about it. I am not a fan of Obama but I would never want harm to come to him or his family. This is the kind of stuff that makes people sick.

Apparently, the "Palin Derangement Syndrome" continues. Will progressives never learn how petty it makes them look to try to demonize their opponents? Grow up!

Disgraceful comment for a Democrat. More like what you'd expect from some Republicans.

Funny how this ends up on a 'blog' instead of an official story. CNN, do you have something against Sarah Palin? Can you imagine if she said that about Obama? Would it just be a blog?

One thing Palin is good at is getting these crazy politicians to reveal their true-selves which in turn gets them out of our government. Kudos to Palin for being the bait in the murky watered swamp.

There is something about that Palin creature that makes you want to see her go away – on her own! She is such a leech! McCain certainly opened a Pandora's box!!!

To Doug: "At least 9 out of 10 Democrats wish death on not just Palin but every American who is not a Democrat fully on board the socialist express."

What?! Even if this ridiculous comment were true, you don't have any proof of such a thing. See, this is why people still believe that the President is not a US citizen. Because people just say things and hang on to them for dear life, even when there is no evidence to prove it...and when there is evidence to REFUTE them (or should I say "refudiate".

BTW...did anyone see that video of Palin talking with that teacher? She is a complete joke!!! She and Bristol are clueless...Bristol said, "She's representing America!"...what exactly does that mean? How? She certainly doesn't represent me while referencing our President's testicles. Palin couldn't even answer the woman's simple questions. Pathetic.

So he has to resign because he was being honest? How pathetic is this country. Freedom of Speech? Not if you're badmouthing a Republican. Sick.

Sarah Palin does do her best to incite anger and hatred and I agree with him. Too bad she wasn't on that plane.

... but some conservatives have no qualms about discussing, or praising the idea of, Obama being killed while in office and are even encouraged by their cohorts.

As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, the Dems should realize that she is their gift from God.

Mr. Horrigan looks like a kook.

I blame the MSM for all the hatred that is out there towards Sarah Palin. If the MSM can get away saying whatever they want then why not Mr. Horrigan

We already know there was a coordinated attack plan that was carried out by 400 people in the media against Sarah Palin and continues to this day.

The MSM will be held accountable if anything happens to Sarah Palin or her family.

You scumbags don’t have a clue.

Dumb comments by all three - Hallowran, Horrigan, AND Williams ("widespread" is clearly over the top - and calling for the governor and Rep. Shea-Porter to denounce the comments is ridiculous). Everyone needs to chill out - including Palin who so often includes references to guns and violence in her childish, mean-spirited comments about the President of the United States, and others.

"Republicans just want an honest debate with liberals."

Such a simple statement, but it's still the most insane and mendacious load of poppycock I've heard in weeks. They haven't "debated" honestly since, well, I'm probably not old enough to remember. In fact, they haven't debated or engaged in productive discourse at all since at least Jan 2007 when the Dems took over Congress. They've done nothing but abuse the filibuster and campaign on misinformation, misonstrual, ideological brain farts and demogoguery...ESPECIALLY demogoguery.

    Two words: "death panels."

If you think that's honest, you probably read Palin's inane to-young-to-have-them memoires and believed every silly fabrication in them.

I don't see what all the fuss is about...Palin and other TP nutjobs throw death talk around constantly (and actually have the guns to back up the language they use!); was it Bachmann who kept talking about getting control of the government by armed insurrection? How many actual attempts were there on the lives and physical safety of the President and Democratic members of Congress?
No, I don't think Horrigan has anything to apologize for.

It's really a sad day in America when a smart and gutsy woman like Sarah Palin is so feared that she's wished dead. The hatred and name-calling from the liberal left is getting old ... real old.

This comment should be condemned, of course. This is what happens when you have a person like Sarah Palin, spewing hatred and vilifying the President of the United States every time she opens her mouth. She has said nothing positive in her many speechs, and she incites people. This doesn't excuse anyone from making that type of remark (wishing someone death) – that shouldn't be allowed. I have never seen in my 75 years the hatred in this country that we have now and the behavior of our politicians toward each other. It is fine to disagree on policies, etc., but it should be done with some respect towards the person and especially the President of the United States.
Where is all this hatred going – we have to turn it around as it is an embarrassment for the United States.
