Obama to sign bill approving $600 million for border security

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama will sign a bill Friday that provides $600 million in emergency funding to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

A day earlier, two senators - Democrats Charles Schumer of New York and Ben Cardin of Maryland - returned from their August recess to give the chamber's approval for the bill.

The House of Representatives had already approved the measure.

In the Senate, the bill passed by unanimous consent - a parliamentary term for a voice vote that doesn't require the return of the entire Senate chamber. GOP leaders had agreed to the maneuver.

Among other things, the bill provides for roughly 1,500 new law enforcement agents, new unmanned aerial vehicles, new forwarding operating bases and $14 million in new communications equipment.

The measure has attracted strong Democratic and Republican support.

Obama praised the plan after the Senate passed it, saying that congressional passage "answers my call to bolster the essential work of federal law enforcement officials and improve their ability to partner with state, local and tribal law enforcement."

Obama argued that the new law would facilitate cooperation along the border between the U.S. and Mexican governments, and asserted that it would make "an important difference" in the push for comprehensive immigration reform.

The bill is funded in part by imposing higher fees on personnel companies that bring foreign workers into the United States.

I thought Pres Obama wasn't doing anythign to help with border security-at least that's what the repubs are saying. Try some other scare tactics 'cause the one about not enough money for border security is not working!

Where's all the nut-job who have been spewing the lie that the Federal Government isn't doing its job on border security? Shouldn't they be thanking President Obama?

Must be more money Obozo is stealing to give to SEIU and NEA. It is sickening in this "summer of prosperity" how much we have paid these groups to continue their lazy, inefficient, ineffective services. They of course block the way to people who really could do the job. But they sure have given the Obama family an opportunity for some wonderful vacations.

The party of NO votes YES on the proper things. This vote was for the security of this country and I am surprised demorats voted for it. The time for "real hope and change" is coming in November and we have a major change in both houses of congress in 2010 and the White House in 2012.

Gee, maybe this is the way to get Obama to pay attention – embarass him in the media. Who ever would have thought the media would actually think that border security is a legitimate issue – at least for this President? He certainly wouldn't have done anything had the Governor of Arizona not signed the immigration bill. There are several other states with the same type of legislation pending. American voters do matter, as Obama is finding out.

This is all politics because libtards know they are getting crushed in Nov. So they will make little policy changes that really wont change anything, in an attempt to make voters feel they are doing something. people arent that stupid.

You know it is really to bad that it had to happen this way. Finally, the liberal regime listened to the people, but they had to be pushed into it by a state encroahcing on their turf, and a public outcry for support of that state. Now 600 million later everybody will shut up and nothing will be done again. Its all a shell game with these people.

Why does it take most of the country to scream abound illegals for this pathedic president to do the right thing. If he was truly serious he would follow Arizona's lead. Obama's more concerned about the illegals than the taxpayers who support them because he wants the undocumented democrats to vote for him in 2012.

Arrests along the border in the Southwest states are down 60% because of added security along the border, Obama sent National Guard to California to increase the numbers there, now the additional funding and they say Obama isn't doing anything?

Why don't we just enforce the laws we have now on illegals?? This money could be better spent on job creation.

Got to love his timing! (Election Worry – By Harry). If they had just enforced the regulations in place this would not be a problem. According to 2010 Census, 1 in 12 of every birth in the United States is born of an illegal. That number only reflects what was actually reported. Government would prefer to sue Arizona rather than do their job.

Check the number of deportation of illegal immigrants; on the rise.
Check the number of local law enforcement agents who, through a legal mandatory/derrogatory deliver of Federal powers to them (and not an overtaking as Arizona is attempting), are entitled to act as ICE agents; also on the rise.
Then check on the numbers of easily debunked excuses from the oppositions to claim that, even with all that happening, the borders were never ever safe and secureless...
    Also on the rise!
