Waters proclaims innocence on ethics charges

Washington (CNN) - A defiant Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, insisted Friday that neither she nor her staff broke any House rules. Waters also blasted the House ethics committee for failing to schedule a trial that, according to her, would allow her to clear her name.

Given the fact that the committee's investigation has now lasted for over a year, "such a delay is unacceptable," she told reporters at a Capitol Hill news conference.

"This case is about fairness," she said. Due process has been denied, and ethics investigators have ignored "key pieces of exculpatory evidence."

Waters, a ten-term Los Angeles congresswoman, is alleged to have helped steer federal bailout money to Massachusetts-based OneUnited Bank - in which her husband had a financial stake. She has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

I guess since she's been in Congress for half the time of Charlie she's only half bad.

Representative Waters is merely trying to deflect attention away from the charges. She is rationalizing her actions and deluding herself at the same into believing that inquiries by a sitting member of Congress does not amout to pressure on an agency or government official to act in a particular manner. In fact she openly stated in so many words that she was using her office to put pressure on officials to act in a manner consistent with her efforts to bias decisions in favor of minority owned banks or other institutions. Clearly she considers herself immune to ethical standards of behavior set forth by Congress. However, even if found guilty in her ethics trial she will be reelected by a landslide and the House will face another ugly challenge in deciding what to do with her in the next session.

What she meant to say is that she didn't break any Democrat House rules... She was just following the standard corruption guidelines laid out by her party.

Nancy Pelosi claimed that she "wanted to drain the swamp". She's doing exactly that and still the Republicans complain. Is there anything that they don't complain about? Any possible way to please them or is it that they simply do not want to be satisfied about anything? And people still vote for them. AMAZING.
